I've played the original/older monster hunters ages ago, I liked them. But after World got released, I simply could not go back to the "norm" of monster hunters. In my opinion World is an upgrade to the formula of monster hunter. When I tried Rise, it didn't feel the same, it felt like I was given less. I think it has to do with World being made for more powerful machines. I'll certainly play all Monster Hunters that release for PC, but only if they keep expanding and trying something like World. I feel like I'm playing a scuffed version of a game that could be, when it's "ported". It's like if something like Fire Emblem was made for PC, I would not enjoy it as something that's like a port, but if it was created as it's own thing, I'd love it.

MH World removed a lot of stuff that for some feels pointless while managing to fail some things at the same time. No more pickaxe, bugnets nor sharpenkng Stones. They are now infinet in different magical ass bag giving you more inventory space so you wont have to grind materials so bad. Always access to dtorage in any camp allowing you to restock mid hunt or even biy your food if you forgot instead of having to abond mission and try again. Removed most unique sikns from wepaons. Just alone Hunting Horn I can quickly see aroukd 30 hunting hirns sharing three skins without counting leveled versions of them like Bone Horn 1, 2 and 3. The layout of map always spawning you at bottom forcing you to run up to get food and also to visit 5 different 9laces between runs taking like 2 to 15 mintes between hunts westing time? MHGU everything was compact because the game could not run massive towns 😂 Paintballs and Marking was reloved in favor of finding tracks and eventually just auto locating the monster when you find enough tracks of a monster. Clutch Claw mandarory was kinda downer, I prefered World over Iceborn. Game play is fun and solid but again Iceborn new Horny move kinda is only move I use ina ny opening as it seems and feels to do most damage rtrtrtrtrttrr... I love Hunting Horn. After playing MGHU and World at the same time I personally prefer MHGU more but wish it was done in PC just like World 😂 like take best parts from both? They improvisaatio the miltoplayer but hou have to wait for other person to watch cut scenes? Wtf. Just let me hang and say "yes I want to peogress my story" Like Guild Wars 2 does it. Over all I give World 8,5/10 and MHGU 9,5/10 personal opinion. World loses a whole point because missing unique weapon skins!

I hope that in the next MH they focus more on the adventure/immersion aspect of the game. I like it when I don't know what I'm about to fight since it gives me incentive in preparing as much as I can before going further. Rise had intros for monsters which are cool but they remove the "nani" factor and monsters location always shown on the map just straight up remove some tension. I like it when quest doesn't say what you're about to hunt if you haven't encountered them yet.

Both games are truly great. To me, Rise feels like the classic romp of old school MH games tuned to their maximum and looking the best they ever have on a mobile format, and World (especially Iceborne) is just a masterclass of what MH can truly be in the modern gaming space once they adapted all the new practices and technology available to them from the last couple decades.

As someone whose first real experience of Monster Hunter was Generations, I have to say that the farming of World was excellent to me because farming charms meant that builds could never min-max due to the rng of the stats. In World, the jewels drop rate is rng BUT the actual skillpoints are consistent and with enough farming your build can be completed without any gaps. It sounds like Rise is following the Generations model (and I still loved Geneations to death, its why I bought World immediately) and I remember how I never found the perfect charms I needed even though me and my 3 other friends spent months as cats running around Rajang in that damn volcano.

From pure combat gameplay perspective I like Rise better, but when it comes to immersion, world building, incentive to explore and the world just feeling more alive it's definitely World for me. Right from the get go I think the premise of being deployed to a new undiscovered world feels way better for a fish out of water narrative than being some village dude that people have to explain stuff to despite him having lived there for 20 years. For it was the setting, with World, being sent to a colony and help out is always more interesting to me. You're fresh off the boat and so is your party, you have a new world to explore. Rise is someone defending their homeland. While I won't fault the game for going that route, it didn't hook me. I think it's because I was new to both games. Rise felt like I woke up with all my memories gone which didn't click with me. The player character is a native of the village so know everyone and the village, plus they just passed the hunting exam but as a player, i felt some disconnect. I know monster hunter isn't about the story but it's more of an immersion thing with me. I will admit to bias towards world for a petty reason. My pc was barely powerful enough to play world when my friends were into it. Kept crashing in the intro and also couldn't go past the desert map. When I did upgrade, they all moved on and I didn't really have anyone to play with. I tried rise on the switch but I think i was unjustly that i couldn't get my fill out of world properly.

I personally enjoy both. My first ever introduction to Monster Hunter was the Monster Hunter Freedom Unite demo for the PSP. Man, that was YEARS ago. At the time, I was breaking away from Nintendo (I think I was getting sick of Mario and wanted something more than that...) and PlayStation did just that for me. My first Non-Nintendo console was the Sony PSP. My dad had sold his pool table (which he liked using) so he could buy my brother and I PSPs for Christmas! Anyways, one of the first ever Non-Nintendo games I've played was that MHFU Demo i had mentioned earlier. IDK why but something about it was super neat. I was still a kid at the time and I did find the Khezu Monster creepy but that's probably what it was! Mario and Nintendo was so family friendly and that to see something else that was the opposite, was like a breath of fresh air. Unfortunately, I hadn't owned a Nintendo Console for years so I missed out on the 3DS Titles... LUCKILY, Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate released for Nintendo Switch. That was the only reason why I bought a Switch. So I could re-live the classic feel of what I had felt years prior. And Gen Ultimate gave me just that. It was like I remembered it. I apologize... I must inform the reader... I had spent hours playing Monster Hunter World on my PS4 BEFORE getting MHGU (If memory serves, MHGU released after the success of MHW). My apologies... MHW was the reason for me getting a Switch so that I could play MHGU on the Nintendo Switch... Sooooooo! Years went by and Monster Hunter Rise was announced and I fell in love INSTANTLY. While not as graphically impressive when compared to MHW (Which would be unfair given the system it was made for) it is still a neat looking game, again, given the system it was originally designed for. You'll find this funny but uh, one of the winning points for me in Rise is the PAUSE function! It's the little things in life for me! To have a MH game on Switch that takes after World is a Win my book! I know I've rambled on... but I personally enjoy both. I do think the Story in World is interesting, but in the end, just lemme at 'em! iDC what is goin' on! Let me Fight, Let me Win, Let me lose, LET ME LEARN. TLDR: I love both, and both are worth a shot. I always see MHW on PlayStation's Greatest Hits section on the PlayStation Store for 19.99 so if you got 20 bucks on you, I'd say its worth a shot! I do recommend doing your own research though, and making doubly sure it's something you'd buy (I'm not an XBOX guy so anybody whose Green, use and utilize your own knowledge)! Have Fun! Stay Safe, Be Respectful and be Courteous to your fellow Hunters, Help those who send SOS flares and GET HUNTING! But most importantly, Have Fun Guys. That's all that should matter. It's a Video Game after all!

On the part about talismans and decorations I'd give it to World, it specifically had Alpha and Beta armour sets to help you comfortably adjust your sets if you had or hadn't managed to get the decorations you wanted but when you did get your decorations you could mix and match them with different sets and you could craft talismans for the main skill you wanted and upgrade it as you played the game like an extra armour piece. Rise's talismans are so RNG heavy that you may never get the perfect talisman for your set and if you do it may only be good for that one set and might not be useful for any other weapon, decoration crafting is mostly fine apart from sometimes needing a lot of materials if you need several of the same decoration.

World is my first game to the series. I was familiar with the old titles due to friends playing them, but back then I was more interested in WWII shooters. MHW maps was 100x better than what MHR brought. MHW was more alive and the whole nature aspect for each map was more immersive. Personally for me MHW gameplay was more fun, even farming for gear, crafting items was more enjoyable. You can play extremely tactical in MHW by knowing the maps and what to bring in and if you know the areas well you can pick up your remaining items before getting to your fight. Iceborne was such a good DLC, adding more monsters big and small. A new area, new gear and also a new difficulty which to me was a challenge but also fun! MHR did have the quick looting system which I really liked! The combat was better in MHR but I still feel like MHW was a strong combat system. Both games are great but I personally play MHW more than MHR.

I definitely disagree with what he says about the combat, the combat in world feels waaay more impactful and had some power to it. Grabbing to a monster with the clutch claw feels much better than the floaty wire bug. The environmental interaction in world for combat was amazing. The detail in world is way better and it feels like your actually destroying/being destroyed by a monster during combat. Rise feels very dull and empty in its combat, the weapons feel weak and the wire bug is very boring to use.

I usually don’t complain about graphics. But MHW world graphics made some of the monsters look absolutely amazing. Like Glavenous, Gold Rathian, etc….. It’s a serious that I believe should have better graphics for this reason alone. Not including the environments you’re in and seeing the monsters seem truly alive and going about their days.

World is a much more experience focused game , whereas rise is more a pick up and lets do a quick hunt. World is a vibe, a sensation, a real feeling of being a hunter in a strange world. Rise is more … arcadey almost, more akin to its pre-world versions. Both great, but world wins for me.
@Simone-xe9cw

My first Monster Hunter game had to be between Rise and World. After having tried Rise first, I decided to refund and got World, which I'm enjoying much more so far. The arcade nature of Rise and the higher mobility, even if good and "updated" on paper, left me feeling kinda out of place: I did not feel almost any sense of immersion while jumping here and there in the pretty shallow first environment (can't really say for later ones), tracking dots on a map instead of exploring/looting. It may sound a bit harsh but Rise left me this impression of being a game specifically targeted to mobile gaming. I'm even thiking I could probably appreciate it more for shorter sessions on a Switch rather than sitting in front of my pc.

I played rise like 10 hours a day when it got on pc personally. The arcade-y ness speaks to the part of me who adores fast paced insane and quick on your feet combat dance, the doom eternal, ultrakill, or whatever part of me. it's not really like I'm not aware I'm actively playing a game with world anyway, and I'm sorta tired of games trying to be too realistic or immersive.

strongly disagree with base game monster roster. I think it's rise no contest. world had a very narrow type of monster that you could encounter in base game, with not much variation. If we were comparing endgame iceborne with endgame sunbreak I'd have to sit and really think and compare the rosters but base game? no contest in rise's favor. just bringing back leviathans alone gets it an edge

I've only started the monster Hunter series a few months ago and while I know I don't know everything here's what I've observed at least, I'd like to say I'm maybe halfway through rise and I'm a good way into the DLC story for world, world's hub feels so much more alive and and heavily founded, the areas feel a lot larger and more highly detailed, the base game roster felt so much better at roughly the same points within each game comparatively, I liked the art style for both and the subsequent monster introductions worked well for each game, even your player characters room had a lot more customization in world than in rise, I liked using the footprints and claw marks and other field anomalies or tracks left by the monsters as a way to develop finding them easier as opposed to just already knowing where all of them are and just selecting the one you're going after to figure out exactly which way you need to go, the combat and map traversal feels very good mechanically in rise, I main a switch axe and it's crazy how much I move around with it now, I like the new rampage mode in rise that's pretty fun, I don't like how they changed the monster catching mechanic in rise because I'm used to in world being able to capture any monster as long as it wasn't an elder dragon and then turn around a few quests later and have access to a special arena quest where I can just go into the arena and fight the monster but now it seems like in rise they have a few set arena challenges in missions for you to do as opposed to just being able to arena fight although monsters you've been trying to in the first place that you don't get to now

I played both. World a while ago although im jumping back into it and starting a brand new game with a new character this time around i want to use only Greatsword! Rise is my baby though, i played that game religiously during the pandemic. one of my most memorable gaming experiences. My problem with World is the movement. Rise just does everything better in that category. The wirebug is just a great mechanic worth embracing moving forward. I also like the fact that 98% of the environment is climbable! makes room for so many ambush style openings and trap placement. One thing id take away from rise however is the monster riding, while awesome it does take a lot away from the difficulty of the early game. I remember being stuck on nergigante for a hot minute in world, if i could just ride it and make it fight other monsters, it wouldve been a cake walk. If i had to choose one id pick rise but thankfully we live in a world where we can have both so theres no point in fighting over it in the youtube comments section. Peace

This is definitely a subjective take, but one thing that really pushes me off of Rise is its silliness and cuteness factor. I’m not much for anime, things like random laughing during dialogue, feeding monster hunters dough balls while singing cutesy songs, overly gimicky characters…I just did not like it. World had its cuteness with the palicos, but it was perfectly played out, and the rest of the feel of the game was perfectly balanced. World’s hunters were rugged and business-like, and that stuck with me way more.

I’ve been a big fan of Capcom since I was a kid playing RE4 & DMC3 on ps2! Like many companies they had some low points which is why I (along with the rest of the fanbase) was thrilled seeing the huge comeback they made after the release of RE7! They’ve been on roll since 7 and besides the RE3MAKE (which I still enjoyed but as remake it was pretty bad) every Capcom game I’ve purchased was great RE2MAKE, RE Village, DMC5 & possibly the best title yet the highly anticipated RE4MAKE! So yea I’m a big Capcom fan mainly because the RE & DMC series….I thought about getting into Monster Hunter! Any guidance regarding how & where I should start?

I really miss MHW/I and I hope they go in this direction for the next iteration in the series. I dont care if it’s a complete clone..I know that each game has its own gimmick and they can change that up if they like. To me, the “World” of MHW was so much more alive. I’m sure if mhr was made for console it would have helped as the complexity of the areas had to be dumbed down to be able to be played on the switch. I also liked how they did the event quests in MHW. Yes, having everything available all the time is nice but it also means you can burn out more quickly. I truly hope MH6 will be similar to World.

Well, just like how you state that the end game usually is the most memorable moment of the game, in World the best memorable moment for me is the final fantasy 14 colab mission to take down the behemoth. This is the first time in my entire time playing monster hunter game since the 3rd gen to experience cooperating and communicating with party member with different role. Usually in the older title, hunting together is just a mean to fasten the hunt or having fun together to slay monster, the strategies are just there to give a faster time to hunt the monster. But against Behemoth we trully struggle to make a good strategies and seriously practicing our play, the same experience can also be applied in hunting the kulve tarroth, savi jiva and fatalis. Also rise being a good game is thanks to what world bring earlier with a lot of QoL content in the game, don't forget how much world has evolve our way of hunting monster that carried away to monster hunter rise. In term of how impactful and evolving the game is in time of their first release, I think personally rise cannot beat world at the momment

THIS!!! Behemoth, Alatreon, Fatalis, Kulve and Safi is SO memorable not to even forget those AT monsters and Raging Brachy too, all these fight gave so much more of a challenge than Risen monsters and Apex monsters in Rise, making these monsters in Rise SO much more memorable and I am an OG MH fan (since MHP). Unless the next updates are gonna change things drastically I just can't see how Rise can compete with world at all.

I love world, i also love RNG so i prefer the decoration farm more than the not so difficult talisman grind, World just has everything you could ask for. Also i just find Rise so be really easy, i dont know if its just the wirebug to blame for this, i think its a couple things, rise is just so forgiving on mistakes, whereas in world, if you made a mistake you go "OH SHI" because you know youre about to pay for what you just did. If the wirebug type mechanic comes back, they really need to compensate the monsters accordingly. I do think the next world title is going to be insane though and is going to elevate MH series yet again to the next level (as long as the endgame grind is good) i think decoration grinding kept players more engaged and for longer than the talisman grind did.
