Thank you so much for still being active!!! I just played this incredible game once more and referring to your videos as guides!!! Good to know that there are still people out there into this game 😂
Thank you so much for making videos like this. I was born in the 90's and I love playing MR2. Now that I downloaded and play it using an emulator, I feel very nostalgic and those things that I've never done before with the game, your videos helps me do it. Again thank you!
I did not know that there are requirements for monsters to get specific techs, and also needed to be fed every time they go training (that was when I was 10 yrs old)... my monster always dies at age 6-7 years old and I cried when my Zuum/Suezo died.. this is a good guide!!!
Mine would die always at 3-5 years old ( dx version btw) because i didnt know anything much from the game (techs and such) and i would always do hard drills, scold them whenever they fail or cheat, not even restarting the game because i also didnt know about that, i would always ask my brother to do it for me cuz im lazy...
Thank you for your uploads! I love the nostalgia wave I get when I check your vids out. One thing I noticed is the editing in your videos is absolutely SUPERB; would you mind telling me what program(s) you use to edit your videos? Thank you
This is so useful! Thank you! You have provided way more helpful hints than the useless Instruction Manual that came with the game lol How did you figure all of this out? There is no way 8-yr-old Me could figure out this game alone back-in-the-day!!
@@teawch Thank you again for doing all this research! The game was targetted towards kids back-in-the-day...but the mechanics of the Game are really complicated without knowing what you are doing! Thanks 💜
MaleOrderBride I’m pretty sure all kids would kill their monsters by the 4th-5th year back in the day lmfao. I cared more about learning new techniques than anything else and kept sending my poor Hare and Mocchi to errantries lmfao.
MaleOrderBride hahahaha. I just completed the game about 2 weeks ago with granity (Pixie/Golem) now she’s frozen and 1 week from summoning the shooting stars lmfao. Waiting to combine her with another monster with the correct stat order. Possibly a kato.
So if you're watching this later on, DX Gemini pots can be factored in as well. Those can subtract -1 stress from your stress total at the start of the month, which means if you have 6, you're losing 12 stress on your life index. If you're following this method and you have 6 pots, that generally means you're starting every single month with 0 stress AND it raises a monster's fear by 1 every month as well, which fear is already kind of difficult to gain. I cannot emphasize how much this helps with raising a monster. It means you don't have to scold because they'll be gaining fear from your Mint Leaf and your pots, so you can go easy as to not stress them out. It also means that at the end of every month, even if you've hiccuped a little in what you're doing, you're STILL going into each month with 0 stress, so your life expectancy is going to be very, very on the money. These guys are really easy to max with. Hell, these guys are easy to make competitive builds with in DX as well because of the Nuts oil Tech combined with Gemini Pots means you can easily hit a 3200 stat rate, although you're pretty likely to choose DEF over SPD because they have garbage speed gains usually unless you've chosen a particular monster.
Now we need a tutorial on raising a Hopper to max stats. Since the Switch port allows you to get Bloody Eye and raise it legitimately, I want to raise a Bloody Eye to max stats. I almost did it with my first Bloody Eye but I only managed to max out its speed and nearly its Intelligence too.
Thanks for the videos. I came back playing this game on my celphone! One question more general, not for Durahan: if a monster ask to play during the training, just decline it?
My Durahan became elder at 6 years, not 5 years and at Elder stage, the stat gains are still OK You can see I was able to max out speed by 6y 7mo (6:10)). The only bad stat for Durahan is speed and once speed is maxed out, everything else is easy. The Life Stages with bad stat gains are stages 9 (old age) and 10 (twilight) which happened at 9 years old. At that point, I switched from training to battling for stats because battling in S rank rewards more stats than training during old age.
No, Durahan's lifespan is 500 weeks (10 yr 5 mo) if you don't do anything to reduce its lifespan. The training method I used minimizes hits on its lifespan, allowing it to live the full length of its lifespan (and I used 2 peaches to increase its lifespan by 75 weeks)
Bro, thank you so much for your guide. Now i wanna try and hopefully i can have 999 monster for the first time. Btw, may i ask how to check fatigue, stress and LI number in MR2 1999?
battles cut 3 weeks off???? does it depend on which week of the month the battle took place or was that only the case for the official cup being at the end of the month for the lifespan check?
Hi can i ask something, why if we do battle it can reduce 3 weeks of lifespan? Won't the fight only give fatigue of 37 (if we win) and that's no more than the lifespan reduction limit of 70?
Battles are special. They reduce lifespan by 3 x (Lifespan Index + 1) So if the lifespan index is 71 after battle, your monster will lose 6 weeks of lifespan instead of 3
For some reason, Colt gives the dialogue prompt for "Prime Stage" on my durahan at 1 yr 11 months old when i tried doing the first training routine here
I edited the video to explain. There's a software called Advanced Viewer by Lexi that can show these values though. You need to be playing on ePSXe or Steam to use it. drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WgDyqPe4V57lAdZZ20AfbxSww2KFPXw3
I use pencil and paper to track the stress and fatigue If you want a program that does it, there's Advanced Viewer by Lexichu drive.google.com/drive/folders/1WgDyqPe4V57lAdZZ20AfbxSww2KFPXw3
Thank you for sharing! Do you know if it sill calibrates with mr2dx? Cause I am enjoying playing the dx versions. Though the shorter life spans of the monsters kinda sucks.
It works on any monster as long as these conditions are fulfilled: 1. Monster 1 has 4 types of techniques: Heavy, Hit, Sharp, Withering (if you only have 3 Heavy and 3 Hit, the baby monster will start with 1 Heavy, 1 hit, and 2 basic tec) 2. The baby monster has 4 types of techniques (Joker doesn't have a Withering tec, so a baby Joker can start with a maximum of 5 techniques instead of 6) 3. Monster 1's main type must be different from the baby's main type. If the main types are the same, then 2/3 of Monster 1's techniques are inherited (not counting Special techniques and the 2 starting techniques) instead.
@@teawch Wow man, i always knew that MR2 was such a hard game, but watching through your videos made me realize that it was a lot more complicated than that. This is why MR2 is a very nice, ahead of its time game. Good thing I got to play it again after 16+ years. Feels nice to be back Thank you for the immediate reply and for sharing the no rest method! :) It helped a lot with my pixie/kato (my strongest monster yet with 556 lif being the lowest). Hope you have the nicest year good sir!
@@teawch can I ask a follow up question? Which of the three: battle, errantry or expedition reduces the lifespan of monsters the most? Also, is it okay if I do this routine to an adult monster? I wait for the next major 4 battle, revive them just for it, afterwards give nuts oil + rest, mint leaf + freeze then repeat. Is this good if I only want to earn or am I just killing my monsters quickly with this routine? Hoping for your reply anytime you're available
Lifespan reduction: Errantry (-6 weeks) > Battle (-3 weeks) > Expedition (-1 week) assuming your monster has no fatigue or stress before doing them Battles don't increase stress unless you don't praise it after battle, so you won't need any Mint Leaf (in fact, most of the time, battles will reduce your monster's stress to 0 if you win). You can do Battle -> Nuts Oil + Freeze -> Revive + Battle -> Nuts Oil + Freeze Only Nuts Oil + Rest when Colt says your monster is tired after battle
@@teawch ohh, so expeditions don't reduce lifespan that much, that's good to know (I've always thought that they had the highest reduction). For the battle routines, I'll replace mine and take your advice. Thanks a lot!
@@teawch ah the HAD monster. I was thinking about Durahan rare species like Shogun and Kokushi, sorry for not being specific. But based on your explanation it's should be good for rare variation of HAD
@@isaakakins7770 If you're playing the DX rereleases, they use the Monster Farm 2 stats as a baseline so all monsters have less starting lifespan than in the western Monster Rancher 2 releases. So in all likelihood you'd need an extra generation so you could have a head start.
Errantry: at least 6 weeks (more if your monster is stressed or tired before going to Errantry) Battle: at least 3 weeks (more if your monster is tired before battling) There is no way to prevent it, but to minimize the lifespan loss, Mint Leaf + Rest + Tablet before Errantry and Nuts Oil before Battle
Emulation on PC (I use ePSXe and the Monster Rancher 2 CD I have) There's also a Japanese version (Monster Farm 2) released on Nintendo Switch last year
For anyone who wants to revive his childhood playing this game I recommend MONSTER RANCHER HARD MODE (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FbpaS9Upues.html) it gives balance fixes, better enemies and more. This video is so technical and dedicated that makes me want to play this again more than cyberpunk
I would only recommend this for people who have beaten the original game and want something more challenging. The mechanics are the same as the original game (with bug fixes like having Oil Fire available for Kato) and the enemies are stronger. You can even use your old save from the original game if you don't feel like starting over
Every monster has 100 weeks less lifespan on the DX compared to the original. So Durahan has 400 weeks of lifespan on the DX (instead of 500) With Gold and Silver Peaches added, that's 475 weeks (9y 11mo) Durahan's last stage of life is 15% of its lifespan excluding peaches, 400 x 0.15 = 60 weeks Colt will give your monster the retirement warning at the beginning of its last stage of life, in your case, that's 475 - 60= 415 weeks (8y 8mo). You really trained it properly and did not lose any extra weeks from its lifespan
I managed to sqweeze some numbers using troron(4-5)/NO/ML/NO and doing only light drills until Colt's last warning: Life 915 Pow 999 Int 704 Ski 917 Spd 999 Def 980 Unfortunately, I couldn't send it to battle so I'm under 5k gold. Having 100 weeks less gives a whole new meaning to combining, since you actually need to combine in order to get to places a make tons of money.
No, you can't participate in any tournaments. Each tournament reduces lifespan by at least 3 weeks. If you do tournaments, you might not get all 999 stats
Doting style means you are too nice to your monster. This is not good because your loyalty can never go above 80 There are many possible reasons why your monsters don't live past 7 years: 1. You're playing on the DX version (my guide is PS1 version) 2. You did too many Errantries or Battles (Errantries reduce lifespan by at least 6 weeks and battles reduce lifespan by at least 3) 3. Your monster is often stressed out because you didn't feed it Mint Leaves
@@yogakristianto2230 Unless you do only light drills, you will need 2 Mint Leaves a month. If you see Colt saying your monster is stressed out, then you didn't feed it enough Mint Leaves
Durahans have a natural liking to Tablets, so as long as your Durahan doesn't dislike Tablet, you will get that additional stress reduction from Tablet
Ah I see. Then if ArrowHead wanna use this method, the monster must liking tablet then. Anyway this is really great. You can do 5 Hard Drills + 3 Light Drills every 2 months with H.A.D monster that likes tablet, instead 4 HD + 4 LD with other normal monsters
Actually, Hengers also naturally like Tablet. It's just some of the sub-species for H.A.D. monsters like Baku/Durahan that need to Like Tablet as a preference
There is a program called Advanced Viewer by Lexi that displays these values. You can also use pencil and paper, since the values are easy enough to keep track of
I can, but probably not anytime soon. You can learn new techniques in Errantry as long as Errow doesn't say "it will be difficult for your monster to acquire a new technique" To learn Special Techs, your monster needs to be at least B rank, then you can send it to Kawrea When Errow says "it will be difficult to acquire a new technique" the technique is locked either because it's a Tech chain or the monster needs Good or Bad nature to learn. This is different for each monster, so it's not a good content for 1 video. I try to include information on Tech Chains of a specific monster in videos about that monster (like 8:11)
Halo menn im back, i need ur help. Yesterday i found a big foot step from torles expedition. And then after that i go to papas errantry, i must battle with jill u know ? But its not happen. Why ? Any wrong with this game ?
@@yogakristianto2230 Up to you. You can sell it, keep it, use it as a combining item. It doesn't matter what you do with it. You will still have a chance to encounter Bighand at Papas Errantry
Did Dadge say your combination is great when you combined? Which Durahan did you get from combining? Did you get a pure Durahan or Lorica (Durahan/Arrow Head)?
how do you see the lifespan check ? where is it ? i never see before. and how to get S rank for the monster ? coz i never get S rank monster even my monster have 6 or 7 years old. max in B or A rank wkkwkw
You can't see the lifespan index in game. I put it in there using video editing software. If you have the right training method (for Durahan, it's the method at 0:46), you can raise any monster to S rank.
With the training routing in the video. Durahans have a lifespan of 500 weeks (10 years 4 months), so if you train without letting the Durahan lose additional lifespan, it will easily live over 8 years
You probably did too many Errantries, Battles, or Expeditions. If you follow the routine in this video and not do any Errantries, Battles, or Expeditions, your Durahan will easily live past 8 years
