well made video. First fished the river in 1981. We flew in with Toby Clark and were in there for 11 days based at Trick creek. The Red deer were thick and the trout were all big. The smallest one I caught was over 9lb. Got a nice Sika head above Ecology in April 1988 when we flew in with Rusty Nairn; no fishing that trip. Walked in from the Desert Road in Dec 1989 and noticed the trout had got smaller and there were more Sika than Reds. Beautiful place.

Excellent stuff. Yeah I fished those exact same pools quite some years ago. Back em day's DOC opened up for 6 or 8 weeks each year a permit ballot system but only a couple landing area's so the hunters could give the Sika a good thrashing and I was lucky enough to be asked to make up the numbers to keep Heli prices down. Only hassle I had was each day I'd walk down to the Ecology and Rangitikei junction and fish back up to camp. The fishing was limited as I'd walk down each day I'd scent the water. Browns when scented ... well hare ra for the day , Rainbows maybe couple hours later if you are lucky. So yeah Mike knows it and fishing as you go was the one. I'm a left handed fisherman as well so it was good going for me. What confused me was how'd you's get out? People also land further up and raft down as well aye ? Good stuff Grafs Boy's I was surprised not to see a Rifle, but hay are you fishing or Hunting aye ? I might even have a RU-vid clip on already of that trip or I will look now and whip one up if not. Happy New Year I think I'll fishing now.

This is just lovely. While I am no fan of heli-access (hike in you lazy fucks), the skills, info, and overall conservation tone of this video is just great. You Kiwis are lucky to have such rich and pristine waters, and it's good to see that you know it.

Very nice video - only one thing I don't get; you fly into what appears to be remote backcountry, and come across a fancy posted sign proclaiming 'You are here' ??
