A friend of mine that moved to Canada from Europe never understood why Americans and Canadians love Monster Trucks, I told him to go to a Monster Jam event, he did, I asked him what he thought and he said "i understand now, on tv it doesnt look all that impressive, but when you are watching it in the stands and see these huge trucks get lots of air it made me excited"

The problem with running a [standard] monster truck on the drag strip is that they're geared SO low that they pretty much hit their top speed around the 1/8th mile, so there isn't any acceleration happening in the second half of the truck. With their gearing, they top out around 90MPH. I believe the top speed record is still at 99MPH by Mark Hall and the Raminator. Now, if they put some gears in them specifically for the drag strip, we could definitely see them over 100MPH. Hard to say what the max potential is, 115 or 120MPH maybe? But the standard gearing they use for all of the arena stuff they do just kills them in straight line speed.
