“pop a 911” means pop an antipsychotic that she used to take (or still takes idk) and antidepressants. it’s her “call for help”. the song sounds “robotic” because it’s suppose to emulate the state of numbness when you usually takes this kind of medications. you feel kind of like a robot. the song is about mental health.

We're with Chris on this one, we don't mind the robotic voice at all. The song is catchy and the video is really well produced 😊

The LG “Sponsorship” is meant to say that LG Life’s good, saying that people think her life is glamourous she has a perfect life but it isn’t.

The robotic voice is to convey her being disconnected/dissociated because of her psychotic state, which is why she needs to "pop a 911", aka take an antipsychotic. This album is very cohesive, so this is just a small part of it where there are some robotic effects because of the part of the story it's trying to portray, but most of the album has very different types of vocal techniques. Also the whole video is full of references to the things around her when she got hit on the bike.

Gaga’s video is genius in many ways, starting with this unexpected ending that ends up giving meaning to the entire overall plot. To understand a little more of the art, or the symbologies of the video, it is important to highlight its director Tarsem Singh, and the used references of cult films. Mainly the video is inspired by the film "The Color of the Pomegranate" by director Sergey Paradyanov, in the Gaga´s video you can see many references to this film, for example: the grenades that appear in the sand at the beginning of the video, or many other planes such as the man kneeling with the cushion, or the Lady Gaga in this kind of colorful window. References are also taken from other films such as Federico Fellini’s 8½ (when Gaga is elevated and restrained with a rope not to die) there are also references to Frida Kahlo.

She sounds like a robot (I think) to convey what it’s like to be on the antipsychotic pills she has to take... can’t see me cry = numbed out... so she didn’t take her pills at the end and probably listened to the voice in her head (referenced at the beginning of the song) and ran into traffic on the bike and tried to kill her self and ended up killing others... my take

The song being robotic actually makes sense in terms of it being about anti-psychotics, which can make patients feel quite flat and robotic at lack of better description.

She had an accident and everything that she saw while lying on the floor and almost dying became assets to her allucination. Red scarf on her face is the blood, red neckless on her ankle was her ankle bleeding, the desert atmosphere came from the LG advertise, the guy hitting his head was actually a recreation of the guy hitting his head against the air bag at the crash moment, etc etc.

Lol, she used to or still does have to "Pop" or take pills in emergency situations such as panic attacks or psychotic breaks hence "Pop a 911". Anyway u guys r funny, I like the dude with the white hair he's like chill....

My feeling (as an admirer of LG for 13 years) is this song and video are reference to her traumatic experience during 2013 - following her ARTPOP album, and it’s robotic sounds, and her seperation from all the people she trusted - it was a MENTAL breakdown - and GOD knows that year was tough for me, too. The Gazing Balls in the little pool (in her subconscious) during the scene with the BLUE DRESS, are a direct reference to that year in her life. The cathartic therapy she had with MARINA led to her interpreting TRAUMA into ART and therefore POP music. She bleeds like the rest of us. Even though she’s a GODESS among men. 9:09 - she indeed had a NDE (near death experience) in her CAREER and personal LIFE - this is her way of REMEMBERING that time in her life - without being TOO literal about it. This is what makes her an ARTIST.

He may also signify Death or her body luring her deeper in her mind. 2) The Red Mask - This is the blood from the accident. 3) Bike with Pomegranates - The first real element in Gaga's vision. She is most probably the victim of the collision. Pomegranates simultaneously signify life and death. Take note that the pomegranates are actually apples in real life. 4) The Red Anklet - Gaga's broken foot in real life. 5) Walking to the White Chapel - This is the movie poster Gaga saw. This can also signify the deepest recesses of her mind, protecting her from trauma. 6) Pillow Man - Another victim of the accident who crashed on his steering wheel. Probably swerved to avoid Gaga. 7) Black Girl in Blue - The first spectator to the accident. Most likely the one who called 911. 8) Two Yellow Men Holding a Door - These are two firemen holding the car door to get Gaga out of the mangled vehicle. Their hats have '911' written on them in roman numerals. The yellowmen were blindfolded because the firemen wore black goggles. 9) Woman Holding a White Body - A woman holding a victim who might have been hit by one of the cars. The white body even has red lace signifying blood. 10) Additional Three People in Blue - Additional spectators filming the whole thing. 11) Yellow Man Mixing a Cauldron - This is a fireman and a smoking car wreckage. 12) The Latin in Guy in Black and the Black Mary in White - These are the paramedics trying to save Gaga's life. 13) The Spinning Umbrella - The paramedics descending via a helicopter. 14) The Purse with the Picture of the Doll - This signifies the pills that would have made her stable. Did she cause the accident? Her balancing the purse/case and the doll could mean her balancing life (doll) and death (case - coffin). 15) The Latin Guy Strangling the White Mummy - The paramedic was checking for a pulse. 16) The Black Mary Covering the Pillow Man with a Sheet - This was the paramedic covering the victim with a thermal blanket. 17) A Man with Dog Ears whose Face is Being Covered by the Latin Man - The paramedic giving oxygen to one of the victims. This might be the driver of the second car. 18) The Black Mary Flashing a Mirror on Gaga - The paramedic was flashing her flashlight on Gaga's pupil's looking for consciousness. Gaga in the dreamscape is her consciousness. 19) Gaga Floating Away with a Rose - This signifies Gaga's consciousness/life leaving her body. She was even wearing a halo. The rose wilts as she is being pulled down, probably signifying her ascension being cut short. 20) The Latin Guy Pulling Her with a Rope - The paramedic gave her CPR. You can even see a brief flash of the real world as she comes crashing down. 21) The Rope - It was the tourniquet used on Gaga's foot. 22) Latin and Gaga Mouth-to-Mouth Action - This was CPR, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. 23) Yellow Man on Ladder Sprinkling Rose Petals - This is a fireman repairing the movie sign. The petals were sparks. 24) Men in Blue Masks - These are policemen. They even have the bird sign in their hats. 25) The Blue Streamers Waving in the Wind - This was the fire hydrant spewing water. 26) The Peacock - This represented Armenia in the Armenian Film Festival signage. 27) The Black Mary Holding a Snake - This is the snake in the cross logo of the paramedics. 28) Gaga in Yellow Spasming - This is Gaga's body rejecting the medication/treatment. 29) The Mural - This was the scene of what really happened. Gaga is now getting closer to surfacing to reality. 30) The Latin Guy Touching Her Heart Area - The paramedic giving her heart pumps and CPR. 31) Gaga in Black Floral Outfit - This is Gaga being put in a full-body brace. The curtain also might have fallen in the background to signify her impending death, the bodybag. This is why, as a last-ditch effort, the paramedics used the defibrillator. There is also police tape in the background with the word 'caution' written in Armenian. 32) The Box - This is the defibrillator. 33) The Virgin Sacrifice - As dream world and real world collide, the vision concludes in a terrifying sacrificial scene as the pain comes rushing in. It's interesting that the knife that kills her in the dream world is the current of electricity that brings her to life in the real world. 34) 'I didn't have pain pills!' - This suggests that she caused the accident because she had a severe episode of pain (fibromyalgia) from not taking her medication. 35) LG Advertisement - 'Life is good, LG.' Ironic, isn't it?

You should watch her Chromatica interview. The robotic voice is her on her anti-anxiety meds, normal voice saying she needed to pop a 911. It's the point of the mix. But you really should watch the interview.

If you watch the video from the beginning over and over again, you'll see an incredible amount of detail. I think the spinning umbrella is meant to symbolize a helicopter, being lassoed from the sky was being brought back to life, the silver blanket used to cover the pillow man was on him in the car, etc. One thing I didn't notice til later was the blue fabric rushing from a red vase, which is the fire hydrant in the final scene. It's really well done and I loved it.

That is the White Sands National Monument about 45 minutes from my house. It is really cool and we sled down it

The costume and sets are very inspired by the films of a very trippy director named Alejandro Jodorowsky, who made visually stunning and surreal movies like EL TOPO, THE HOLY MOUNTAIN and SANTA SANGRE. There's also a really cool documentary called JODOROWSKY'S DUNE, which tells the story of the INSANE version of Frank Herbert's book that he planned on doing once upon a time, but the expense would have been so ridiculously out-of-control, that it might have taken EVERY SINGLE STUDIO IN HOLLYWOOD to make it. If you like shows about the making of movies, it's one of the best.

The Gaga Chromatica Interview with Zane Lowe is a great interview to give more of a back story to her experience writing the album. This song is related to her experience with an antipsychotic meditation that she takes. The “robotic” sound in the song, in my opinion, is a reflection of someone that is on “autopilot”. There was a reason for the auto tune. She is in a dream state and everything that happens during the video is connected with the world around her after she is shocked into awakening. Great reaction! Love her video!

I feel that with this album and specifically with this song tries to bring and give importance to a tabu theme that many of us overlook and how extremely important mental health is. The damage that trauma can cause and what the mind comes to idealize and turn into something with which the pain is not so intense and we can survive.

I love the robotic sound. It speaks to a frame of mind. They used a vocoder to get that effect. The symbol on the flag is southwest first nations. It is about an NDE. The guy on the black horse was death. LG is what Elton John calls Gaga. The music that begins to play in the accident scene is "Chromatica III", which leads into a song called "Sine From Above"....which features Elton John. This literally "sign from above" flashes "LG..life is good". It's totally meta.

All his films are visually stunning, just look into him, his name is Tarsem Singh. He's Indian btw. His Costume Designer, Eiko Ishioka, got a posthumous oscar in 2012 , and she had an amazing eye for fashion. Most of her movie career is working with him

Regarding costumes. Many, like 99%, of outfits in all of her videos were by fashions designers. Well known and amateur (she and her team uses their privilege to bring notice to upcoming designers). Many designers create their works with an intention per outfit, and lots of those intentions lines up with what she needs. The outfit the saint/nurse wears was probably designed with Russian/Armenian influences as well as Catholics. Which fits well. The video was inspired by an Armenian film, has Russian influences, as well as recasting the nurse as a saint - going to Gaga’s Catholic background.

After watching the music video, at first It was confusing what is going on. But at the end, I got it.

This song is about an anti psychotic she's on. It's about when she was mentally unstable. And basically the medication saved her life.

This video is a great interpretation of trauma and the experience one has with it... when one experiences severe trauma, they recreate trauma in a way that the brain can process - for Gaga it is a creative process of hers and it’s really interesting to see this. Disassociation is also a big part of trauma and for me this video represents how that process happpens too
