Royal Ballet performance of Frederick Ashton's ballet with Lynn Seymour and Anthony Dowell. Recorded c.1980. Slight overlap with Part 3 so as not to break up Seymour/Dowell pas de deux. Part 4 of 5. piano soloist Philip Gammon
I was fortunate to be an usher at the Kennedy Center in Washington during the 1970s and 80s and got to see this ballet performed by the original cast several times. My usher colleagues knew not to disturb me when Month was being performed. To me, it’s as close to perfect as a ballet can be.
Was lucky enough to see this ballet twice with this cast and also with Marguerite Porter as Natalia A perfect example of Ashtons romantic style and wit and a very enjoyable portrayal in dance of a classic Russian story The designs by the late Julia Trevelyan Oman were very evocative of a Russian Country house of the period all this resulted in a brilliant one act ballet
OMG! Lynn Seymour and Anthony Dowell are sublime to watch whatever they dance, this is such a treat. A Month in the Country became iconic from the pictures of the magical pair amidst the passionate pas de deux, images that were indelible in my mind. Thank you for posting. Love love love. This vehicle by the legendary choreographer Frederic Ashton is almost like a little film as it tells it's story. I wish the ballet could be watched all at once but I'm not complaining, I'm so grateful to be able to indulge in this and other wonderful television presentations from the '70's where ballet was on frequently and I fanatically kept track of. I saw this when it originally aired on PBS. We're truly blessed with RU-vid! :)
