i think the best way to distinguish Caribbean curries from East Indian ones is that in the West Indies, the meat is often marinated in green seasoning. In Trinidad, that would usually consist of grinded green onions, shado beni or bandhania (also known as blessed thistle or culantro), garlic, pimento pepper, and scotch bonnet pepper. I also like to add Spanish thyme as well. It gives the dish a distinctly West Indian flavour that's very different from the curries that you'd find in India.

Philip C yeah. Just because the citizens of a particular country where a certain food item was “discovered” eat with their hands does not mean bupkas! Eat any food that is put in front of you using the utensils you grew up with, in my case, a knife and fork! People from places where food is discovered, made and eaten, become very chauvinistic citing that their way of eating their food is the proper way. That is absolute rubbish! Demand a knife and fork in eateries that do not have them on the table! In Chinese restos I ask for proper cutlery and nine times out of ten they bring me only a fork! I tell them that I request a knife too too!
@jiv32

I was just gonna say that. Eat food however the hell you want...except pizza... you can't eat pizza with knife and fork...or a burger
@suicidelovestory
@suicidelovestory 5 лет назад
You CAN eat pizza with knife and fork--several styles of pizza was meant to be eaten with knife and fork, and in certain places (e.g. Naples) it is the preferred way of eating pizza.

I find it interesting how Caribbean food is prepared in Montreal vs Ontario. Looks like a lot of the meat there in Montreal is ground meat where I am in Burlington Ontario (do a search for D Hot Shoppe on RU-vid) the Caribbean food tends to be dark meat based off the bone stews. I love doubles. In Toronto there are some Caribbean restaurants that are also serving Bake & Shark. See Bizarre Foods show on RU-vid in Trinidad & Tobago episode.

LA Maison du Cari looks like a real winner! I like spice, but not rip the roof of your mouth hot spice. Where would you put it vis-a-vis the 4* heat at Thai or Indian places? I like 2 or 3* best. What js a typical Trinidadian beverage (besides water/tea? I like a Mango Lassi with Indian food, e.g. thanks for sharing! Another of the immense diversity in Montreal cuisine!

Wicked episode. Quebec seems to be the last bastion of Mom n’ Pop home cooking -from all cultures- in Canada. From my experience the rest of the country has rolled over and accepted inferior chain franchises (ie Tim Hortons etc). In Quebec it feels like a greater appreciation is placed on homemade food and tradition. We also have wicked roti shops in Ontario but I’m happy to see some positive exposure for lesser known Montreal establishments

It's Indian food,the first girl also sounds indian, and roti is indian.This is the same thing that happened in Canada, with all the Indians who moved there a long time ago.All those spices he said are exactly what is used in Indian curries. This is not Carribbean food, there are so much African influence in the Carribbean culture, why do y'all have to copy Indian and say that it's not the same thing.

Aayush Gaikwad remember Indians were taken after the abolition of slavery from British India to the Caribbean island of Trinidad & Guyana to work on the plantations as Indentured servants and we took our customs with us which has now been mixed in with the African culture to form our own authentic Indo Caribbean cuisine which derives from India. Our food may be similar but it’s less oily

I've seen a few of his videos now about Montreal (I'm born and raised) and it's like he came here, asked one person 'who makes the best curry', 'who makes the smoked meat', 'who makes the best bla bla', and makes a video like he's an expert. I've eaten at this particular curry place since the early 90s.They used to be pretty good - not great. By NO MEANS does this place rank high on anyone's list who actually lives here and knows west Indian food and certainly not in recent years. The little hole in the wall takeout counter across the street (Mr Spicee) has always served WAY better rotis and doubles... even though it's take out only. Another internet clown who doesn't know what he's talking about.
