I always thought the funniest thing about this sketch would be to be a random person out for a walk and see the cast of monty Python dressed as the Third Reich with Cleese himself screaming into a bullhorn at you.
@@matthew8153 Poorly thought out. Poorly implimented. His only real result was to tank his whole country. As far as the sketch here goes, it was hilarious.

lmao Whatever character John Cleese would play he would always hit a home run. Whether it be the parrot skit or the spam skit it never fails to make me laugh my head off. Though "Life Of Brian" I would say is one of my favorite Monty Python movies.
Love that part. Could have said any job but Window Cleaner! Window is almost impossible for a German to pronounce correctly. Attention to detail, little things. Always loved this sketch.
When I was younger I used to work for a company called Hilta Pumps in Coventry UK, I thought the boss was a bit strict but I had no idea that this was going on
Nothing ongoing was! For your boss was much English and eating much of fish with chips and toads with holes and riding on Piccadilly underground, don’t you know old chap what!
@ZeroRelevance sometimes children's media in japan will use minimal kanji and only hiragana, because the children might not recognize the kanji ... but these subtitles have plenty of kanji so 🤷♂️
This world would've been a much duller place if it wasn't for Monty Python! Thank god these six enormously talented guys came along and brought joy and laughter to all of us who enjoys this kind of humor! Monty Python is the best!
@@johnmanning5568 Humor is closer to the Latin root.. Also the American deep south accent is closer to old British royalty than what y'all speak today.. :)
@@Yogurt_Fingers the Latin root? I’m talking about how the English spell humour not Julius Caesar! Americans try to spell English properly but unfortunately fail miserably so many times.
@@ankavoskuilen1725 Why? Because it's quite sad and boring to most people today, though it is interesting in a nostalgic way, a glimpse at the Britain of the past, that seems like yesterday sometimes.
Love the placard Bimmler's carrying on the bike: "Hilter for a better Meinhead", and the leaflet von Ribbentrop hands out to the little kids "Hilter fur ein besseres Meinhead"!
"I am not a racialist, but, und this is a big but, we in the National Bocialist Party believe das Überleben muss gestammen sein mit der schneaky Armstrong-Jones! " - my favourite part, such crazed delivery
You could, but many wouldn't get it. Kinda like "the producers" play "springtime for hitler". The reference would click, but the actual joke would just go way over their heads. Rewrite it with saddam hussein, or Osama bin laden, the modern audience would relate more to it, though it would be a bit harder to layer the jokes into the bit like they did here.
Whose Line Is It Anyway (US Drew Carey) took on the Hypocrisy of this with their “Cosby and Hitler” bit. It was for the game “Title Sequence” when the director said no. Then in the next game, Drew joked about the Hypocrisy while the other comedians made jokes. Still my favorite episode of Whose Line “He should Sprout a mustache and move to Germany” -End of “Hoedown” Ryan Stiles
Can't do these jokes anymore because nobody knows what they're referring to cuz everybody's too stupid. Worried about what the Kardashians are doing. I don't mean the alien race from Star Trek.
It's now been 14 years since you commented. IF it was 1923 and you had started the National Socialist Party .... it would now be 1937. TYME TOO GYAT ZERIOUZZ!!
That was hilarious (as was everything they did). If anyone takes offense at it, something is wrong with THEM, because this "Mr Hilter" sketch was great!
One of my favorites...along with "the deadliest joke" used in the war to beat the nazis...John Cleese portrayal of the S.S. captain that reads the joke was above the best...loved this show and love it even more today...very relevent especially the sketch where the zealot man identifies as Mary, truly ahead of its time.
@@ajarnwordsmith628 By pointing out the contrast between the extreme villainy of Hitler and civil life, it brings absurdity. Absurdity is humor. In this instance, it's lampooning humor. The fact that I have to explain this to you makes me wonder if you had extreme trauma, or a cultural upbringing that doesn't support a model for this type of humor. @annebeck58 is only rightfully concerned that others' culture and perspective will mistake this for something other than it is--mockery. Anne seems concerned that this mockery of Hitler will be banned because someone took offense to it, whether they understood it(and they don't like Hitler being mocked), or they didn't understand it(and reel at the mention of human lampshades). The very idea is that Hitler is a repulsive clown and the tremendous juxtaposition of civility edges this satire into a poignant warning whilst lampooning a fear. The only concern is that Hitler was no clown. He was a serious threat. Nevertheless, poking fun at an enemy can deflate their attempts at intimidation. Good luck with your life and thank you for sharing your perspective.
When I see this sketch I immediately recall the "Faulty Towers" "German" episode when Basil goosesteps for his German guests. His admonition not to mention "the war" is in shambles. This humor is timeless.
So, I'm a bit late, but I have a question about British laws. Why is it that Monty Python was allowed to make this comedic sketch for BBC without legal repercussions, but Count Dankula was convicted of criminal charges for teaching a dog to do a Nazi salute as a joke on RU-vid?
because the people who actually lived through the war were not offended by humour. The irony of the Count Dankula 'offence' is that real Nazis of 1930s would've been the only ones offended.....but not enough to punish him 🤦🏻
For those who don't know, Hitler and his goons started off in the 1920's like this : mouthing off in beer halls till they finally tried to take power in 1923. Hitler, coward that he was, was hiding behind his bodyguards. But just 10 short years later he was Chancellor. So this parody is very funny. And to right minded Munich people, Hitler would have looked just as daft in the early 1920's. But weirdos like this are so dangerous as there are so many people who can fall under their spell ... This is one of my favourite Monty Python sketches
Hitler out of a job. The fact that he isn't actually speaking German at the rant but is just screaming meaningless nonsense adds to the satirical effect. You don't find comedy like this anymore.
"..and over here is Mr Hilter.. Planning a little excursion are we Mr Hilter?" "Ja, Ja we make a little hike for Peterford" "Oh well you'll be wanting the A39 then... no no no you've got the wrong map there.. this i...s Stalingrad!.. you want the Ilfracombe and Barnstaple section!" Simply Brilliant.
Loved Monty Python's Flying Circus in the 70's. I was a teenager living in the US. I was only 16 when I started to watch. Then the Holy Grail movie. Sooooo funny those silly Brits!
The social and political satire of this little sketch from them is brutal and scathing. They are basically telling that post-war England has a problem of homegrown neo fascism.
@@adoredpariah lol Why would Trump supporters want this to be cancelled? I am a Trump supporter and I love Monty Python skits and movies. The only people who want to cancel stuff are the far left cultists. I know because they have tried and failed to cancel my 5 times up to now. And I don't know any Trump supporters that are nazis stop drinking the kool aid the real world is where I am. That is why you failed.
@@TheAlmightyAss Right wingers are not weirdos. I know because I am as right wing as they come and I think this stuff is funny as hell. Nazis are not right wing they are alt left. Plus I don't know anybody that is upset over anything monty python skits/movies made. I know the far left hates comedy and they could not make this not politically correct comedy that was my point. Just ask Dave Chappelle he made fun of something they thought he wasn't supposed to and they attacked him literally for it.
Almost as good as Chaplin's Hynkel. If you haven't seen his movie "The Great Dictator" you should give it a go. It may be 72 years old and black and white, but the fact it was made in the early years of WWII (Before the US even joined in the fight) tells us a lot about some people's perspective on worldly events while all the characters portrayed were still kicking. Hitler seen it twice from what I hear. The movie even starts with a joke in saying something like "No actual people are portrayed".
Yes ..chaplin thought he could read hitler, as they'd both had a similar upbringing, struggles etc with life as children, family strife etc. He thought he knew something of the mans makeup
this really is one of the funnier bits they did - I laughed - a lot of their stuff is so weird that you don't laugh so much as you are silently fascinated - 'Mr. Hilter' !
Exactly. Their skits and jokes didn't always make me laugh but half the fun was the journey and never knowing where they were going to go. And when a skit did succeed it usually did so brilliantly.
Sad thing is that anyone that did something like this these days would be cancelled. I love historic comedy like this, no idea why but it always makes me crack up. Death of Stalin for example was amazing.
They literally wouldn't. This is a sketch that critiques nazi believes and also the fact that britain had it's own facist movement growing ... the only people who would be mad at this would be the conservatives, because they'd take it as an attack on their beliefs.
@@plurabelle5cis just denotes something as not trans. you can attack other points but attacking the use of cis is pretty retarded considering the scientific history of the word, an excerpt: Cis-trans isomerism, also known as geometric isomerism or configurational isomerism, is a term used in chemistry that concerns the spatial arrangement of atoms within molecules. The prefixes "cis" and "trans" are from Latin: "this side of" and "the other side of", respectively
after almost half a century this continuous to be unique on so many levels: the sheer audacity of poking into such a topic, at the time not that long removed from the sheer horror it held for the world... the brilliance of acting, John Cleese's Oscar-worthy Hitler performance on the balcony, the capturing of stereotypes, one doesn't know where to start: it's light years above 'normal' comedy. Utter brilliance!
I love that slightly deranged guy who shouts - He's got great legs! Does he reappear in anymore sketches or is he a one-time only character? I swear, he's in something else as well.
That's a Gumby. They all played Gumbies at various points, though I think Palin did the best one. There are several sketches based on them, and they pop up randomly at other times.
pretty much nothing they did would be allowed today - except maybe Life of Brian because the only thing that's still acceptable is to parody Christians
Off topic, but undoubtibly the case.I'd say 20-30 years, myself. I used to be quite a leftie and am still 'centre-left' on most things, but my normal, popularly-held views are called 'far right' when I dare expressing them. The young are especially indoctrinated with insane leftism. Troubling times.
“Insane leftism”?? You’ve no awareness of right wing extremism, such as in Hungary and the US, have you? I can’t understand the populist factions who’ve gone so far right that everything else looks left to them.
@@chasbodaniels1744 Precisely what I said with regard to the hard left. In the west, hasn't politics become polarised because the rampant leftism progressing through the institutions caused some on the right to entrench their beliefs in response? If the left became more moderate so would some the fringes of the right.
@@PalaeoClive237 Haha, this is a waste of electrons, arguing here. Over a coffee or a beer perhaps? My stance is the populist far right are off their rockers, and only absorb what they’re fed by semi-fascist nutters.
