Yep, all diplomatic about this decision until it all starts to become clear. Ku, try and be more objective bro, this isn't your team, it's the fans team. Gores needs to stay out of it, his intervention is why we are in this mess to begin with. If he intervenes again, then Trajan is no different to Weaver, another puppet. I can't take Ku seriously if he thinks that moving personnel is how we move forward, culture and proper leadership is how things will move forward. This Dictatorship mentality is poison, Trajon will be yet another scapegoat if we continue down this path. If he is here to truly be the decision maker, then let him be that.

1st Listen...a bright side is Fred Vison coached under Monty Williams in New Orleans so maybe, hopefully, if Monty does return as the coach, the two of them together can figure this out and really get this team on the right track.

Trajan is not moving fast on many things, but so far I like his decisions. It was time for Weaver to go and we definitely needed a shooting coach that actually can teach guys to shoot. Hopefully he will keep the trend going and bring in a good head coach. I feel they are waiting for the finals to be over to see where coaches fall once JJ is free to be hired. He probably has a name or two and if they go elsewhere he’ll stick with Monty (though I hate that idea, he more than earned being fired).

If the do end up keeping Monty I hope that it is on a short leash, like evaluated every 10 game whether to keep him or not (he would have been gone by game 20 this season).

@@J.Ragland-hz1er first off, a players ability on the court has nothing to do with their coaching ability. I also did not say they were getting JJ, as he is still likely to got to the Lakers. Just that I think there has been a log jam waiting for JJ to be available post finals announcing. We can now see where the dominos fall.

Monty is definitely the problem! He couldn't win against Assistant coaches with Depleted Rosters like the Denver game when they were literally trying to give Monty a free win. No Jamal Murray, No Joker, and no Coach Malone. Yet, Monty still finds a way to lose that game at HOME! It's totally unacceptable, and he even costs Pistons games against the Wizards, just disgusting coaching all away around! Let's not forget Giannis was so bored of playing against Monty's lack of coaching. He decided to chill with his kids on the sidelines!

People keep forgeting one of Monty's defensive coaches most of season was off for personal leave until they had to eventually fire him. So pistons had no defensive system/coaching most of the season. That should of been done early in the season, so that is on Monty, and his other coaches aren't helping players develop. So i say FIRE MONTY and his entire coaching staff.

@@cordelldemattei5446 Casey was doing a fine job keeping players giving effort and developing talent while th GM provided a roster designed to lose games. Winning 17 games without Cade and missing Bojan half the season wasn't terrible. The reason I was arguing against those who wanted to fire him was to avoid the current problem.

I don't know the details of the Pistons season. But Ku only gave one concrete example of what Monty did wrong(Jaden Ivey). But Jaden played 77 games averaging almost 29 mpg. Am I missing something? Look at the roster Monty had to work with.

Only if by Steve Kerr doing nothing you mean running a dynamic offense using Ivey and Ausar as cutters/slashers and a defense that jumps passing lanes resulting in fast breaks with the season ending in at least twice as many wins and much more entertaining basketball. Then, sure, Kerr would do nothing.

This hiring could mean something because as you point out, the last shooting coach was here 8 years while no one developed a shot and several guys shot got worse. If you haven’t noticed, shooting is an important part of basketball.

It doesn’t matter, really. Anyone would do a better job. Trajan could name you as head coach and the result would be more wins and better player development. Monty actively sabotaged the team last season.

@@SportsOnAirPH did you watch last season? This is not based on record at all, but on how Monty coached. He went deep into his nba longest losing streak without making a single adjustment until forced to by ownership. He played Thompson and Ivey as stand still, spot up shooters. He kept all bench lineups on the floor so long that the deficit mounted to be greater than the starters, who sat with a lead, could ever recover from. He started Knox and Livers over Bagley. And on and on. I have no hate for the man, just the way Monty coached. He more than earned his firing and it is no exageration to say that the Pistons would have won more games if they just ran out there pick up ball style without a coach. So, yes, literally any coach would do a better job.

@@revmichael4 I doubt he developed into Kawhi. Kawhi has a post game, and is a great iso ball carrier. Asuar is has none of these skill. I see him more of a Tayshaun prince good defender, averaging around 13-16.7ppg,,, and a streaky shooter.

Counterpoint: Both those teams actually underachieved for their rosters. Any other coach would have easily won a championship with Paul, Booker, Durant and Ayton. Our roster may not have been great but Monty coached the very worst out of it and stunted player development. It is unfathomable to me how people that don’t have to pay him would want him to coach the Pistons again.

One more thing I forgot to add I wasn't a fan of the way he coached most games,but the team as a whole was CRAP. He was just trying to see what if in anything would work. When he evaluated nothing really works he just played out the season and the hand he was dealt. Plus the team started the season with KEY people out of the lineup which really hurt the teams depth. When those players returned things just got even more out of sorts because they had to be inserted in readjusting the already shacky chemistry. All in all he is still one of the top coaches in the league. The man needs a better roster. Which includes a RIM PROTECTOR and a number 2 SCORER next too CADE. He had BOOKER and DURANT and won lots of games. He is a WINNER whereever he has gone. Let's get the team RESHAPED and then we can judge him FAIRLY. Can't judge by taking over a team which was not NBA level for years before you took over and people expectations are unrealistic when the team itself was just NO GOOD!! Team was not consistent on offense or defense night in night out!! Nobody reading this even that KU dude can honestly say they could do better with a team like THAT!! One man carrying a team with no help!! COME ON MAN IT AIN'T BEING DONE!! THE RECORD SPEAKS FOR ITSELF!!

Monty did the opposite of trying different things out to see what worked. He kept banging our head against the wall deep into 28 game losing streak running the same guys and same thing until the owner sat him down and forced him to change the lineup. In fact, the only change he did make was from running the fast paced 0.5 sec offense that showed success in the first 3 games to slowing things down with a Cade heliocentric offense and we saw how that went the rest of the season. Monty was exactly the opposite of the coach you say, no creativity, no changes at all.

@@damonclark1583 I would gladly take the job and do a better job than Monty because even just running the guys out there pick up style would have better results than Monty’s active sabotage of the team last year. Defending a coach that set the single season longest losing streak and has the worst record in franchise history is a very odd stance. And you can tell a bad meal or a bad movie when you eat or see one, but that does not necessarily mean you are a chef or filmmaker, so saying I should be coach is just weird. Though I still feel I would have done a better job than he did last season. If he is still around I surely hope he takes a very different approach.

I don't know if Monte will get fired, nor do I really care. What I do care about is idiots (now including Ku) blaming Monte for all of Ivey's deficiencies and absolute incompatabiity with Cade, which is the (valid) reason Monte started the year bringing Ivey off the bench. Monte should have stuck to his guns. He wanted to play a real PG who had some defense, which Hayes was. He probably wanted to move Cade off the ball (which many analysts and fans have also suggested) but could not without making Weaver (and Gores) look like asses for selecting Ivey. (Frankly, Monte's mistake was not that he played Hayes. It was playing Hayes out of position on most possessons as a 2 guard in the corner while Cade did his best impression of ball hog Adrian Dantley) Ivey had every opportunity to shine as either PG or as a scorer off the bench (against weaker competition) and he failed at it spectacularly. Ivey only amplified his weaknesses when Gores and Weaver forced Monte to change the lineup. The Pistons were not good with Ivey coming off the bench, but they were putrid after he moved to a starting role. Ivey has talent but needs 2 to 3 years of development and needs a role other than playing SG next to a Cade Cunningham. Keep Monte (or not) . But trade Ivey or even Cade. Just like up and coming Indiana bit the bullet and traded Sabonis because of redundancy/incompatability with Turner.

I agree Gores needs to step away from making basketball decisions. It defeats the purpose of the new hierarchy. Monty should stay if TL decides to keep him. I am not opposed to this, there were a lot going on in this man’s life, hard to focus on the job at hand when going thru his situation about his wife’s health. Remember, he was courted by the owner and didn’t app,y for the job. It is only a good business decision to see if Monty is going to have his focus on the job so TL decides Monty needs a REAL chance then I am ok with that. Being a fan of the coach should not factor into TL’s decision. Ku, stop…all your reasons are emotional rationalizing….are you going to campaign against Monty the whole next season too.

The coach doesn't matter. It's the roster. Williams is not hopeless because he won in Phoenix. Put a good roster together with good talent and they'll win games.

He should have easily been able win it all on Phoenix with Paul, Booker, Durant, and Ayton. The fact that he didn’t is a complete failure. The roster may not be ideal in Detroit but he still managed to misuse and ostracize players. He should have been gone about game 15. He was so bad that he made Ku eat his early season words that you don’t make changes before 25 games.

They say Donaven Klingin cas play defense but we all saw Zach Eddy cook him for 37 points? I prefer Eddy he’s a great defender and he could matchup with against any big in the east, and high shooting percentage and basketball IQ…. All these experts are about to be on the wrong side of history by the end of his rookie year

How has it worked so great for the 76’ers and the Nuggets? They’re guards are flourishing just fine, the Celtics, Bucks,76’ers and Nugget’s all have big slow centers and all are flourishing… I want the Pistons to be like them

The idea that Tom would step in seems counterintuitive. My initial thought if Monty returns is that Tom asked Trajan to give him one year before he makes a move that drastic/force Tom to cut that check. Because next year you could bring in Mike Malone and the Pistons still aren't winning more that 40 games. So Tom rooting for giving monty another year so he can get the most out of his investment. I get he "said" he'd do it but at the end of the day he's a business man

@@IAmAbundunt Ben Wallace was short and won multiple DPoY awards. Stew isn't winning any awards, but he is a plus defender. Wiseman and Bagley are 7' athletes who are terrible defenders. Height doesn't determine defense. Many factors are involved.

Monty Williams is a good coach. After the All-star Break, 90% of the roster in the rotation were G league players. We had no shooters in a 3 point shooting league, and a bunch of injuries.

But he's not. Chris Paul is a great player. But what has Monty ever done without CP? The offense they ran last was an abomination. The defensive effort was unacceptable. And there's no indication any of the players connected with him. And he has a track record of running off young players and destroying their confidence. We need someone with a track record of developing players.

The All Star Break is 2/3 of the way through the season, so explain the horrendous majority of the season. Good coaches don’t run off 15 straight wins without making any changes and have to have it down meetings with the owner to make adjustments.
