it came from the 60s lol. i was never a fan of singles. i bought albums, but this and 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale', by Procol Harem, are my 2 favourite singles of all time. you should react to it, performed in Denmark, 2006. it, too, has an orchestral backing. beautiful.

Although this is quite a good live version but it is missing something special and that is Mike Pinder's amazing keyboard work especially his Mellotron sound. Please check out the original album version for that 60s magic sound.

Story goes....he wrote this in high-school about a girl he loved from afar. Years later, after they'd become famous, someone told the girl that she was the inspiration for this song. She contacted him to ask if it was true and when he said it was, they started dating and later married!Or so the story goes! As beautiful as this version is, the album version from DAYS of Future Past, has the coda that was left off here! Timeless classic!

Dude, you just witnessed nightwish's grandfathers. In this early album the parts with the band and an orchestra were seamlessly blended, yet separate. After this album, the instruments were all played by the band or replicated by the mellotron(a precursor to the synthesizer). The orchestration was blended with rock simultaneously. Most of their big albums are conceptual and profund. The moodies and nightwish are among my favorite bands!

This is the final song on “Days of Future Passed” the 1967 concept and studio album. It became a standard album within the symphonic rock genre. Days of Future Passed can best become Day in, day out; not applied, but according to the division of daily life: morning, afternoon, evening, night. The album's music features psychedelic rock ballads by Hayward and Pinder and orchestral interludes by the London Festival Orchestra. The band and the orchestra only actually play together during the last part of "Nights In White Satin." studio album setlist: After the orchestral intro, "Dawn Is a Feeling" begins more abruptly, and there is less echo on Mike Pinder's vocal on the bridge, making it more prominent. On "Another Morning" Ray Thomas's double vocals are spread left and right in the stereo channel. The flute interlude is also played twice towards the end of the song before the orchestral segue. The orchestral intro "Lunch Break" goes on about 15 seconds longer before fading out. The bridges to "(Evening) Time to Get Away" have John Lodge singing alone; all the backing vocals on that part have been lost. The end of "(Evening) Time to Get Away" is missing a Mellotron part and only repeats twice, instead of three times. "The Sun Set" is missing some piano parts, percussion parts, and the reverb on "through the night" is different. "Twilight Time" begins more abruptly after the orchestral interlude. The backing vocals on "Twilight Time" are heard through the entire song instead of only coming in at certain points. At the beginning of "Nights in White Satin", as the orchestral prelude ends, there is one less beat of time before the rhythm section starts in. Some of the strings near the end of "Nights in White Satin" (before "Late Lament") are out of sync with the main body of the song.

Wow, thanks for this one. I have two songs on all my playlists; this one and the other one is A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum. I can never decide which one should be on 1st. Hearing either one of 'em gives me goose bumps and they bring me back to my childhood instantly, growing up in the sixties and seventies, the happy years. When the time comes and I need to meet my maker I want these ones to be played, the original versions and I want them to be played as loud as possible haha 😂

I suspect on Justin Hayward's grave it will read 'He knew a Melody when he heard it'. A part of British cultural life for over 50 years and still somehow transcendent. The band as a whole is terribly underrated in its native England.

This is an absolute classic Highly. Magical is the best word you could have chosen. "Knights" may have been implied in the the lyrics. Never reaching the end could refer to soldiers who lied under sheets being sent home in coffins. Or not. That's how I first heard it explained to me, but I haven't ever seen it "debunked" by the band if it's false. The tone of somberness would certainly fit that interpretation. The album Days of Future Passed that it comes from outlines a full Day from the crack of dawn to close. This, along with a short spoken word poem afterwards was the final track. Great reaction bro. ✌️💖
