The Moody Center debuts next spring and will replace the Frank Erwin Center as the home of the University of Texas basketball teams. But it will also serve as a stage for so much more. FOX 7 Austin's Tierra Neubaum has a look.

Tax payers do have to pay because the arena owners will not pay property taxes like other property owners do. They also get significant real estate tax breaks.

horrible. they sold the old arena to build a smaller one. there is no space for all students, now with less availability of tickets they can sell them at a higher price. Well done

UT is spending USD 338 million on this new arena. UT is just spending money for the hell of it. Meanwhile, issues like student debt and the declining value of a university degree goes unsolved. The Moody Center sounds like more money than brains. I don't recall any, any championships at the Drum and I was there when it opened. The University of Texas Medical System should have plenty of teaching facilities at Houston and Galveston. Was the Drum structural unsound or what or just in the way? PS-parking must be hell around campus now.

UT didn't pay for any of it. It was a donation by the moody foundation. So you're argument is invalid. It will also be used for a concert and entertainment venue for the city of Austin.

@@hornsfanforlife17 I noticed that you only stated where the money came from and not the issues in the comments. Donations from foundations like boosters also come with influence and that's the real problem at Texas. UT doesn't need vanity donations it needs coherent and thoughtful leadership especially if the slide into mediocrity is to be abated. In the Athletic department (in football and basketball) and the University as a whole.

It's going to fit more people but it's going to not be a good venue, it'll be like going to the Alamodome for a concert because of its size👎🏿.

It's smaller than the Frank Erwin center.... so your argument makes no sense. The whole point was to have a more immersive and close experience.

Nightmare of a place to work as well, hopefully it gets done on time Aecomm Hunt as a general contractor was a terrible idea, safety, organization and scheduling are very subpar at best
