@@SVTONICBoatWives Similar on Ernst for me, as a peg leg, with only my Fight Leg and Arm working, have totally shifted my approach h from Classic Sailboats, and towards KISS principles, while retaining, and slightly increasing the importance of Shallow Drafts, to get close to land for easy access into and out of places. Immediately Out, go Centre Cockpits and Kwtch Rigs, Steep Companionway Steps, and the wide open internal and external Spaces of Catamarans, as the beating to windward Bucking Brnco motion literally came close to throwing me over the side. Recently, my heavy Duty Recliner Seat, threw me out and smacked my head against a Radiator, and even with my sister's help, I couldn't get up off the floor, so an ambulance had to take me back unto hospital, so once below, hand holds and places you can wedge into securely, likecthe Galley, and sit down seoerate Showers, become as Critically important as Sugar Scoop or Bathing platforms for easy Docking of Tenders, with good Access into the Secure Adt Cockpit, and through it to the Companionway - as an aside, yout point about split Cockpit Tables if the Beam of the boat is really wide, really hit home. Then things like in Mast Furling Main Sails become even more important over and above the already vital UV protection forvthe Sail Cloth, and all Head Sails need to be Furling as well - though self tacking Jibs, do seem rather pointless tbh, and to me, interfere with a greater opportunity for more flexibility with say a Furling 140% ish Grnoa ? add in a Furling Reaching Code Zero for wind angle Gap filling, and a Furling Gennaker, and all lines led back to the Cockpit, and by clipping in of Safety lines from the Companionway, and anyone is pretty much good to go to any Destination even if Disabled ? 🤔 Bob. PS. Yes, there are other issues to be taken into account to get to the end result needed, but they have to be tailored to individual requirements anyway I suspect ?

@@SVTONICBoatWives PS. Along with in Mast Furling, I forgot to mention Uprated Standing Rigging, as for me, it is an automatic Ipgrsde, which may not be obvious to others, as the alignment of the Mast must be within an inch, top to bottom, and must stay there - None of the Silly Mast Bending that Sailboat Racers are prone to. 🤔' eta, doing this PS seems to have deleted my list of needs that Disabled Sailors need to have on a Sailboat, and they align pretty much with the nrrgs of Cruisers in many ways. Will have to resist them at some point and one I had failed to mention is an Auto Pilot that is absolutely Rock Solid Reliable for at least Ten Years of Marine use. Bob.🤔❤️

@@SVTONICBoatWives Essentials include : - On Deck, Foot and Knee Friendly Non zslop; - Below Deck easy slope Companioway w8th good Hand holds, hip bracing points, and Grippy Flooring; - Sft Cockpit for Dugarscoop pr Bathing Platform as a Dock for easy access on and off a Tender, plus access into and through the Co kpit to the Companionway, and point taken for pointing out that if the Boat is really Beamy, then a split Cockpit Table really does make sense; - very shallow Draft for Easy access into and out of as many places as practical - and to me that means a Draft of 4ft 6 inches or less- I just don't Trust Drop or lifting Keels sorry ; - a bloody Reliable and long lasting Auto Pilot, and finding one right now, is a problem, and it shouldn't be, as they are vital and need to work. I don't like Wind Vane Sterring, as throrvReaction time when things turn bad, is way too slow; - KISS Principle Basic Sloop Rig with in Mast Furling, all Headsail Furling, and no Self Tacking Jib, about a 140% ish Gempa instead, Furling Reaching Code Zeo to fill in Wind Angle Gaps, and a Furling Gennaker should round things off nicely, and all lines back to the Cockpit. works for disabled me, with Special Design features for the Main and Gdnoa- both Triradial with a Battenless Main to eliminate Chafing Wear and Tear plus increase in reliability, with both having tough reefing points built in, for Sail Shape protection and long service lives. - Good Sprayhood and Bimini Connecting to the Aft Cocpit Solar Arch for Sun and Rain Protection do need to be designed and made well, with materials that last as well. Should be a decent start to get stick info, tear apart, add to, and be food for thought I hope. Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️ -

@@SVTONICBoatWives Ooo Nice. I really like the 470, but it's looking to be too big for a shallow enough Draft to be able to be fitted, as a 45 foot LOA and with a wide Beam, looks to be Roughly the Upper limit hence the 44, and a 15 mtr Air Draft Furling Mast on it for Bridge clearance should still give decent Cruising performance with a Triradial Battenless Main. I really like Dufour and what is available from Bensteau Group tbh, and have totally converted away from Classic Sailboats, and towards Production, plus my lasthold out, Island Packet is down to the large range of Customisations available, mostly at no tra cost, plus of course the Termite Proofing. This Tour literally just showed up for my Samsung Tablet after I finished my updated Review of your previous Tour of the Moody DS 48 lol. Great Tour of a much improved DS 48, which originally, had been a real struggle to get to important Key Maintenance points. I almost Love this boat, and feel the Noody Deck Saloon is the only one that can actually Wodk in the Tropics, and is far superior to anything a Catamaran can offer. My Personal Favourite from the Moody DS Tange, for very personal requirement reasons, does continue to be the DS 43 though, and revolves around the Custom Lead Wing Keel Dhallow Draft potential. Just heard back from Darrell of Island Packet. Having a two head version of the IP 349 can indeed be done with a Custom Build Looks like most of the large Luxury Head and Shower next to the forward Cabin can be kept as well, though cupboards in the aft double Cabin, will have to be reduced some, and a nice head can go in port side next to the Companionway, opposite the galley Port Saloon Single settee berth, and Starboard double settee Berth, can then fit in as well. I’d also have a 4 foot Draft. I must admit, I totally fell in love with the IP 349, as soon as I saw it - hints of every other boat I’ve had with it, but updated and easy Aft Cockpit access, and Tender Dock. Only the Single Head and Shower totally ruled it out though, as if you entertain at all, two heads instantly become vital available options include a Hard Dodger, and a hard Aft Cockpit Arch, plus lots of Custom bits for disabilities that are no cost options. Must admit, that came right out of the blue. I wonder how much it’ll Cost. 🤔 Bob. 👍❤️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇬🇧⛵️

The dedicated Navigation station is standard on the DS48, so no problem there. There is not much storage under the saloon seating as this space is the headroom in the starboard aft cabin. The seating just forward of the galley does offer some storage. Under the nav seat is a huge storage draw.

If in the USA, one to look out for is 8.5% Kentucky Ale, which is matured in Bourbon Barrels. The best Sipping Ale I have ever tasted. The very worst beer I have ever tasted, was bottled Italian Peroni Beer in Italy in 1969, and itnis only slightly improved today. yuk ! Gallo and Napa Valley Wines in general in the USA are pretty decent, as are Wines from Chile, Argentina, South Africa, and New Zealand - a cousin had a Farm close to the Marlborough Winery, and their Wines are very nice - but all Wines, Beers, Cider, and Spirits today suffer from the same problem - All of them Are Chronically Overpriced, as are Tobacco Products, and High Prices are based on Blatant Lies about All of them, as an excuse to increase Taxes. 😡 It's Very Annoying. Totally Off Topic, but A Subject that I am trying to get my head around, which doesn't apply to just Laminated Boat Construction in the Tropics. How to delay the natural Deterioration and breakdown of Resins like Polyester and Gel Coats by maximising UV protection via Waxing and polishing, as Carnauba Wax visibly alters to yellowing from UV exposure. The maximum Laminated Hull life for Polyester Resin Reinforced hulls with no exposure to UV Light is 90 Years, and totally exposed depending on thickness, can be as low as 12 months, before it disappears by breaking down into Esters and Water - Hence the root of the problem that we call Osmosis - which doesn't get halted by Barrier coating, or having a final layer of Vinylester the underlying Chemical Clock is Ticking away still. So which Polishes provide say 12 months JV protection , and is anything that actually Eorks affordable ? As I need to be 5 years or so on a boat in the Tropics, obviously I want to give it the Best Surface protection that I can. As a side note, my heavily built 1978 Endeavour 32 was still a massively Strong Hull in 2016, and had been well Barrier Coated below the Waterline both internally and externally in a pretty major refit just prior to my becoming the owner, so by delaying and slowing down Deterioration, panic can be avoided, so Great UV protecting Polish ? Worth Trying I think. 🤔 Bob.👍🌟🌟🌟❤️

@@SVTONICBoatWives I was lucky on the timing of my 1970's Civil and Structural Engineering Course Content tbh, as some intensive Research was started in the 1960's due to thinking that Plastics were "Forever" along with warnings that within 10 years, every Beach on the Planet would be 30 feet deep in Plastic - well within a couple of years, it became clear that wasn't going to happen, so where was the plastic going ? Well thanks to UV exposure, plastics on the Surface were pretty much gone in side 12 months, and they broke down to Esters and Water. then it was soon found that underground plastics, protected from UV exposure looked to have a maximum service life of 80 years, before they broke down into Esters and Water as well - which is bad news for layers of GRP below the Surface, no matter how well they are Sandsiched between other materials. Basically, the thinner the Hull, the faster they lose Structural integrity, and for buying a boat ? get the newest Hull you can afford. Obviously Metal Hulls can have similar life shortening issues, and it's a stretch to think in terms of any boat lasting over 100 years in a Marine Environment anyway. It's hard not to conclude that the mi ro plastics nonsense, is anything other than deliberate Scaremongering by the way, and chucking waste plastic into landfill is a terrible waste of what is really a vert precious Feedstock for Plasma Gasification with Syngas waste to Energy production of Ultra Clean Liquid and Gas Fuels - Renewable that actually deliver, and like Oil and Gas - which have long been confirmed Not To Be Fossil Fuels and will always be produced by the Planet and will Never Run Out, though we may occasionally over extract in some areas, but the Fiellds soon fill back up, just like all the Texas Oil Fields pumped Dry between 1911 and 1939 when they were capped, when resurveyed about 12 years back, all of them were found to have filled up again. Synthetics though should cost fractions of a pence per gallon to produce, and all the Tech needed, is available off the Shelf. No Wind or Solar ever recovers the zenergy used in making, shipping, delivering and installing them, which is rather Sobering to ponder on. But back to UV, what is the best Polish to resist UV Damage with ? Best Wishes. Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟👍❤️
