Preset Pack @ www.jeremyshgr...
Moog one is extremely powerful and polarizing. I think its a great synth. It just takes time to learn. Here is some noodling with a nice brass pad I programmed and some chase bliss cxm verb. Sorry for the noise and the bad playing at times.

Its not cause its too complex, who doesn’t want to have one? The problem is its $10,000. The average person does not have the luxury to own one.

So human. The chord choices are tasty and melancholic. Right up my alley. I´d rather like dynamic playing than a perfectly edited flashy video. Thank you.

The One is a never-to-be-repeated tour de force of an instrument. People love to hate it but it’s mostly jealousy because it’s so expensive. It’s true that there are more immediate synths and some with a better core oscillator sound. But that’s not the point of the One. The presets are overly fussy and poorly done I think, in order to show off modulations. Those that use them to judge the synth are missing out. It’s wonderful to play and use. I will NEVER get rid of mine. It’s a forever synth.

You're right about the core oscillator sound. This thing was so close to being everything I could have ever wanted from a synth, if only the sonic character wasn't so narrow, and just okay. But yes, I doubt I'll ever sell it. Too much exploring to do.

So many better sounding vintage polysynths
@final_mile_music9713
@final_mile_music9713 2 месяца назад
@@vfloev that’s the point. It isn’t a ‘vintage’ synth. It’s supposed to be a modern incarnation of analog. All the cork sniffers bang on about ‘vintage sounds’ incessantly. I have ‘vintage’ in my studio. Or at least modern versions of it. Prophet 10, Matriarch, Model D and more. They are wonderful. But I also want and value the ultimate modern interpretation of what possible with analog synthesis. And that’s the role the One plays.

I just got mine a few weeks ago along-with a Matriarch. I dont find it too complex at all. It's the exact opposite for me. And both are my first synths in which you are supposed to create your own sounds.

I was finally able to grab one of these after years of putting away a little bit every month (and fortunately got mine heavily discounted) and it's been a beast, I've had it for just over 6 months and minus my vermona (love that things character) I've actually sold off almost all my other synths because of it. At first I thought it was daunting, but it's a weird thing - the more I used it the more I liked it. And there are times, especially after work where I wish it was more immediate to noodle on, but in most cases it takes you where you need to go, with a little more work. But yeah - I agree with your statement, it's not as immediate as a Prophet 6, so on - and to that extent I can see why people like the new Muse way more, it's much more immediate than the One by far. (And the overdrive is much more beefier) but the more I sat on it at the shop yesterday, the more I just found myself missing the One at home, as tempting as it's been to give into the fever pitch and try and sell it for a Muse, I think I'd miss a lot more than I'd be gaining. I also like what the Moog one did here, it was never supposed to be a vintage synth, it's supposed to be a great modern synth, which I think it is. I think if it had a beefier oscilator sound it'd be probably the only synth I own.

Can be dense in a mix, but the highpass can solve the issue. If i need a great sound fast I like to use a single oscillator with external fx.

$10k for that kind of treatment?!? When I had an issue w/ my LP Stage, I brought it to the factory and though out-of-warranty, they fixed it for free and were super nice. Tough times obviously changed them.
@supercompooper
@supercompooper 11 месяцев назад
@@BlackMan614 yes it was pretty shocking. I own a Voyager, two slim phatties, moogerfoogers, etc... And they just ignored their support tickets and then said oh too bad for you it's now out of warranty. Company really dropped support for me and I'm done with them I think. They know about this but no one contacted me or cares. My dealer actually might try and force, using their clout, a repair. I haven't done that yet since the issue only appears once it's been on for a month or so straight and it's really inconvenient to box and ship it since my dealer (coincidentally called Moog Audio, but unrelated to Moog Music) closed their Toronto store and I'd have to ship it to them. I get the feeling COVID really buggered up Moog's people. Under staffed during COVID, then lots of staff issues internally and people stopped caring (at least whomever eventually responded to one of my support ticket pings). You could literally smell it was all a dumpster fire. Very sad. IMO such companies must never cede control to any sort of investors. Nice plucky engineers can't play or win that kind of control power game.

As a former Moog ONE owner, without tons of effects it sounds thin. A great synth is one that great sounds "fall out of it" unintentionally...not with massaging and tweaking. Hopefully Moog's next major instrument corrects this flaw.
@vincewizz8534
@vincewizz8534 6 месяцев назад
Always interesting to see how our perceptions differ 🙂 I’ve been passionately using the One since 5 years now and 90% of the time without any fx. And I can make it sound richer/thicker than my Prophet 10, which I also love but use much less incidentally 🙂. But for sure it does not sound “thin” at all 🙂I think there is a special philosophy in the programming of the One: you cannot just program it as you would program much simpler synths like the Prophet or the OBs. First and foremost it is essential to sculpt its envelopes curves shapes properly (including the Hold), this is key! Then, slight per voice variations on several parameters make it sound totally vintage very easily. Of course there are millions of combinations between filters, oscillators waves, and all possible modulations and I regularly hear new users complaining that they get lost in all that. But some of them bought it as a preset synth and thought that just tweaking detune, ADSR and filters cutoff would be enough… It just think they need more in-depth knowledge of synthesis, and simply more love of sound design. Otherwise, a P10 or an OB-X8 are much better suited for them (and will save them a lot of money 🙂).

The patch you played is one of the best demos I’ve heard of what the Moog One is capable of doing. How many hours did you take to make that patch?
@JeremySHGriffith
@JeremySHGriffith Год назад
Hey Thanks a ton! I dont recall how long it took. But Ill tell you this, when I started trying treating it like a moog. It really came to life for me. Concentrating on basically moog sounds and then expanding from there. I also spend a ton of time in the VCA section. Panning different simple synths. Its really fun and sounds awesome. Does this answer the question at all?
@DrChopz
@DrChopz Год назад
Yes, your answer helped me. Treating your Moog like a Moog makes a lot of sense. I’m working to recreate your warm, smooth Horn-Like sound on my Moog One. Also, your dense wash of reverb on those patches was great.
@JeremySHGriffith
@JeremySHGriffith Год назад
@@DrChopz The Efx section is honestly kinda crazy. But where trouble arrises, is in the gain aspects of it. The synth effects are routed it seems directly to the master efx. Therefor, you really have to pay attention the gain of the synth effect. Also each effect has so many parameters. I think this is cool and frustrating. In the end, you really just want really great subtle efx to apply to your source. But here it's so modular, every single parameter can be altered. Thats so cool accept they gave us wack presets. Im working on a preset efx library that I think sounds nice and is more general. I also think and maybe moog tried to do this. But they focused on everything it could do rather than its strengths. I think this synth can sound like almost anything, but when there are so many options and parameters per function. it gets hard to know where to take it. The envelopes are a perfect example. If you look at the more page of the envelopes, each function has at leas three functions. Log, Linear, Exponential. Sometimes we just want the company to give us their most bad ass settings and let us run with that. But I totally understand what they were trying to do. Im just not sure they explained it well enough. But I cant imagine trying to explain all of this. It would be sweet if they would literally drop a function that sets everything to say classic moog settings. Something like that could help people. I dont know, maybe I'm full of shit. lol
