Jamie Lidell here. Little back story from my end. This was literally the first piece of music to be made in this new studio of mine. I had help cabling the room and those guys left literally the day before we started shooting this. There were a few ideas as to how we might show off this unit but in the end it felt like a good idea to try to make a song. I wrote the words the day of shooting and that’s why I’ve got my phone to read them. It was all just made as layers of improv and experimenting with ways to use the machine. One use was a small drum machine that was made from pinging multiple stages of the machine. This came from Max at moog and was a way to keep time through the song. Lukes pedal steel was tracked into 2 spectravox boxes as a wide phase. Aaron steel tracked many layers of drums and we did a whole hi hat overdub session where there was a moog cv pedal connected to the unit to make a wah wah hat. That’s in the mix. The intro involves looping on a nagra that was connected to a SV as a processor and in the end Max reprocessed my vocal all the way through to show it off as a color and shifting unit. There was a session where an ableton controlled cv rig was used to do more extreme and hefty drum processing which you hear just before the chorus hits. It was the fuzz and the funk there. That’s not all. I’m missing some uses but I really tried to pepper it In through the whole song whilst still keeping the music the main focus. Thank you all for your kind words !

This is (pardon an over used but correct word) EPIC! The genius Tesla would have loved to have this in his lab as much as the late great Steve Albini would have been thrilled to have the opportunity to manipulate the sounds of the Spectravox.

Phenomenal example of how this device can be used beyond the bleeps and bloops heard far too often on RU-vid. (Almost) nothing can replace a great voice for good songs.

Hmmm… i watched the demo, still have no idea what it is, what it does, why i’d want one… all i saw was a whole load of other gear being played…. Sure it all sounds great but what part of it was this moog thingy?

This is SUPERB... The song is awesome, the whole performance, the voice! It takes me back to when singers actually sang! Fantastic. The whole NIN-ish ending is impressive. I want to hear more from these artists! Oh yeah and I gotta get a Spectravox no doubt about it

Amazing synth. All designed by Bob Moog himself, using through-hole components and valves. Bob was the genius that brought you the Polymoog, Multimoog, and all the other amazing synths Moog have released in the 21st century. Bob loved his time working at Moog Music, and all that time he spent designing all these great synths after the Minimoog. Bob particularly loved working as an employee for David VanKouvering, the former televangelist and entrepreneur who took over Moog Music because they were riddled with debt. Those were great years working for Musonics, from 1971 onwards..... very productive for Bob.

Good lord - he sounds incredible. First listen/check out of the Spectravox. Tempting. Very. (With pedal steel - seriously? That's how to sell all the donuts!)

I love that moog does showcases like this. Using the device in actual music, showing how it works with other devices. To everyone saying they don't know what it's doing - we'll get overviews and deep dives! But this is what devices are meant for, and Im glad we get to see it

Great sounding track, although it doesn't really demonstrate the features of this new little Moog unit individually. Basically, it just shows it being applied in segments in a song. Kinda counter-productive for Moog, to put this up as a demo for it.
