Two examples of how to use the mod wheel to 1) control the amount of vibrato and 2) change the filter cutoff. Easy enough to do, though not as obvious as one might think.
Glad I finally stumbled upon your videos about Sub37... Took me what, five years since I got it, but I’ve made it!😅 These videos show me a side of Sub37 I wasn’t able to crack open myself, especially the sequencer! Thank you very much!
Glad they helped you out. When I first did this video, it didn't get too many views (especially compared to the Sub 37 sequencer tutorial), so I thought a lot of people didn't care too much about programming the mod wheel, but the number of views have been steady and actually increased a bit over the last year, so it's good to hear it's helping.
ProckGnosis I have seen it too. It's also a great movie! Although not quite on the same level as In Bruges for me. Thanks again for doing all these videos! I decided to buy a Sub 37 over a Dave Smith synth in part because of your comparison of the filters. Also, I was having trouble with the menus for the sources and destinationsnon the most busses and your video really helped
Glad it helped. I admit, the biggest selling point for me on Dave Smith is the polyphony. If Dave only made mono synths, I think Moog would have the edge, but so far Moog refuses to do a polyphonic synth (unfortunately), so I'm grateful for DSI. That and as much as I like the Mopho or Tetra, I think the Prophet 6 and OB6 are even better. I would be surprised if Moog could make a polyphonic I enjoy more than the OB6, but I would love to see them try!
Vielen Dank und gern geschehen! Not sure when the next Sub 37 vid will be...lots of other synths to play with as well. Also not sure what I would cover. Was schlägst du vor?
ProckGnosis bravo, tolles Deutsch! No worry, take your time, I got my 1st synth (sub 37) 2 days ago and your videos really helped me a lot! if you want, you could do a video about the envelope generators for example, this would be great! Danke!
Ich sollte Deutsch viel besser sprechen weil ich in Deutschland wohne. Ja, Englisch ist meine Muttersprache, aber nach 10 Jahre in Deutschland, mein Deutsch ist funktionell aber leider nicht fliessend. Na ja, so geht's. Und guter Vorschlag. Das kann sein wenn ich genug Zeit habe. Cheers!
Interesting, Sam Prock, who recently got Moog 37 CV, discoveres ProckGnosis channel and learning more procktology :) Great and relaxing vid, bro! Subbed :)
I love the Moog Sub 37. However, Moog has had some quality issues with the filter cutoff pots going bad, that happened to my 2022 model. Using the mod-wheel for filter sweeps might be a great way to not have to turn the big filter cutoff knob which might avoid premature wear and tear of the cutoff potentiometer. Thanks for sharing this!
Damn...thought I replied to this already. Very glad it helped. Yeah, I've come to the conclusion Moog makes some great sounding gear, but the digital side (the menu-diving process on their gear) isn't one of their strengths. And you're in Toronto? Great town. Would love to go back and spend some more time there.
there is an easy way to link any parameter to the mod source . 1. go to dest on mod 1 . 2. click the dest button until it cycles to the last option , EG time/ pmg . 3. when the EG time / pmg light it on , click and hold the dest button and then move the parameter you would like to control . 4. use mod amount to change the amount of modulation sent to the dest . 5. this can be used for mod 2 also .
Sweet...thanks for the info. Given the digital OS, I would have suspected something like this existed (or could be programmed), but I never ran across any specific tips for it. Thanks much.
@@ProckGnosis Nevertheless, this method to use the modulation wheel for the filter cutoff, is not documented in the manual, and as you said: This is no obvious thing to do! And for this reason I'd like to send a huge (!) thank you to you for sharing this knowledge! I own the Subsequent 37, and I think that this is a most valuable information for all owners of these synths!
Lol...well, if you ARE Dutch, I just wanted to practice a bit, but if you're NOT, all I said was "Thanks. It's a very cool instrument and not too difficult to understand". And my Dutch language skills don't go much beyond that omdat Ik heb te veel vergeten.
@@ProckGnosis I'm 100% Dutch :) so no problem at all! I was just curious if you did this or Google did some kind of A-B test on me :) You have been living in Holland?
No, I just noticed you had an NL extension on your channel URL. I was curious about your channel name. I took a few Dutch classes at the university because my German was already ok, and I was curious about the language). Later in the late 90s, I actually lived a few years in Germany pretty close to the Dutch border.
Sorry...likely won't be doing a vid for it anytime soon, but I suspect it's just selecting an "aftertouch" option instead of "mod wheel". I'd suggest looking at the manual. If I run across the specifics on how to do it, I'll add to this comment. Cheers.
HI, great tutorial. I wonder, how can I control the pitch AMT ONLY, (don't want the mod wheel to control any other parameter such as lo rate etc. Thanks
I don't have it in front of me to test, but the steps should be exactly like the second example (at 06:14), except you dial in the pitch amount (with the PITCH AMT knob) instead of the filter amount knob (FILTER AMT).
If I'm understanding your question correctly, you should be able to use the second "Mod Section" to control the overall amplitude or volume, while the first Mod Section controls the filter. There is a modulation destination of "OUT VOL:" that should work for that purpose.
Beer and moog? Sign me up! Subbing! How can I add an extra osc to the sub via cv? And what products would you recommend? I've heard that it's possible. But don't know how.
Hey EMBHHB...sorry for the slow response. If I'm understanding what you're asking, the Sub 37 has an "external audio in" jack. Just pick another synth (for example a Moog Slim Phatty or some other module), and run the output from the extra synth into the "external audio in" jack of the Sub 37. Then connect midi out from the Sub 37 into the module (it would need to have midi in, of course) to ensure the extra oscillator is played in synch with the Sub 37 oscillators. Now ALL that being said, I haven't tested that exactly, but it should work because... ...it is basically what I did on this video but I used a couple Dreadbox synths instead of Moogs: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dKh9OP3kRJI.html The Dreadbox Hades provides an extra oscillator for the Dreadbox Erebus, it runs through the Erebus filter, and MAN does it sound great.
ProckGnosis wow that easy?i will try this tomorrow. now I regret selling the system 1 with cv. Mixed with my moog could be epic. I love the sound and look of the dreadbox, but can you save patches? And do you know about an cheap but funky synth for that extra osc? Thanks.
Heck...take your pick now. Really depends on your requirements (how much you want to pay, how big/small you want it to be, how many oscillators, etc). Lots of options for an extra oscillator (or 2 or 3) coming up now. Korg Monologue, Novation Bass Station II, used Dreadbox Hades or Erebus, Behringer Model D, Behringer Neutron, used Slim Phatty etc. Most of those would be less than $400.
