Moog Sub 37 Walkthrough - Sequencer and Arpeggiator Part 3 of 3

My subsequent CV will arrive Thursday and I’ve taken the day off so I’ll be sure to be home. I had a little fatty six years ago. I sold it. Yes it sounded great but it was just so elementary. And then I played a Sub 37 at guitar center. An hour went by before I recognized it had passed. They had no longer any subsequent 37 so I went on a search and finally found one. A white unit. I paid nearly $2000 for it and I don’t regret it. Moog has created a monster synth!

Thank you for this very informative video. Via MIDI I connected my Keystep Pro to my Sub 37. I can now use the Keystep to sequence the Sub 37. The sequencer seems pretty robust but I’ve only played around a little bit. I was especially surprised that the Gate knob on the Keystep seemed to correctly adjust the same function on the Sub 37. But then again, I’m usually surprised when I can get something to work on the first try because I’m “Synth-Challenged. “ 😣

Excellent videos - thank you very much for your efforts!!! You probably know: a very nice feature (at least in my opinion) is "velocity" (you can set its influance on both envelopes) on the sequencer - the velocity-amount can be stored and edited individually for each sequencer-step (similar as you show it with the modwheel)

help! why if I move knob to REC, play sequence and then turn knob to SEQ with arpeggiator button ON instead of hearing my sequence when I hold one key, I get one constant note and only see numbers on my screen changing like if it is playing my sequence?

Hello mate, great video - really instructive :) I notice you mentioned at the end that the patch editor is great - how can I get a hold of that? I've been searching and the consensus on the Moog forum is that Moog are unlikely to ever release it! Apologies if you covered this in one of the previous videos in this series, I've only seen this one (though off the back of this I'll definitely be checking them out at some point!)

Not owned a synth since the eighties. Back then it was a Roland SH-2. These tutorials have been very helpful to say the least and made the Sub 37 very accessible. Can you recommend a companion for Sub 37? Thanks G

Can you save a patch with the sequencer latch on? I want to be able to alternate between sequences on the fly with one hand when I switch between preset buttons.

Thanks again. The sequence you play (the 64 step sequence). I assume you made it yourself and its not a factory preset. Is it downloadable or something? It is pretty simple, but it really got something going on! I might be tired in my head and the Subsequent 37 is completely new to me (had it less than 24 hours), but it would be nice to experiment with that sound/sequence and learn some of the fearures playing around with that sequence. Is it available or can I just get the few guidelines to notes/arp settings/LFO? Thanks. Great videos. 👍🙂

thanks for the vid! I got 2 questions. first: can you record live? that is: play in the sequence live with the keyboard while the the midi clock from external gear is running? and the second question: what happens when you switch between sound banks, do you loose the midi clock (from external gear)? by that i mean: when you chained the sub 37 as a slave to the master device and wanna play another sound bank while the whole thing is running, do you loose midi clock? Because obviously if you are a live act you don't wanna change to another bank and suddenly loose midi while you are playing live!

I'm finding syncing this with LogicX is very temperamental. Every time I open a new project its a fair bit of setup menu button pushing before it works. And then when it does it doesnt seem fullproof. I wouldnt want to be in a live situation and rely on it. Is that usual?

I think it would be worth while saving up for something like this than getting a Korg S20 ....????

can you record on the fly with ? i.e playing with a drum machine like just jamming out a sequence, seems stranger if not

Is there no way to link a series of sequences together ? it looks like I'll have to use an external sequencer to do this. Am I right ?

does anybody know why my sequencer lights are not tracking the sequences neither while recording or playing back...the 1-16 bank lights?

Nice. Is this the latest firmware? It seems like it - I know they did a lot of tweaks on the sequencer from the initial release. I'd like to know before I study it in depth, though. ;)

say what.. (!?) You can't see what bpm you're in , when using the arpeggiator ?? really ? So.. other than using sync..how do you coordinate with other instruments/musicians ? PS These videos are a gem, i tell you ;) They're not only the best.. but the only ones, that i have found.. doing this sort of approach.

Vous bougez beaucoup les mains mais pas beaucoup de son avec votre clavier. On a pas d'aperçu sur la musique qu'on peut composer réellement. vous faites voir les différents types de combines pour changer les fréquences de base que beaucoup connaissent et qui d'ailleurs sont réalisables avec des applications pour tablettes tactiles et gratuites. Déçu car j'aurais aimer entendre un morceau de musique qui aurait été plus convainquant. Pour le coup, on ne sait pas quel genre de musique nous pouvons jouer.
