Moonstruck is one of my favorite movies, so I decided to make a video of pictures showing these locations "then" and now, of course some photos are from 2004, but most are from 2008. Its my little tribute to the movie that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Below are some of the locations:
Castorini's House (residential): 19 Cranberry St, Brooklyn
Nucciarone Funeral Home (building is replaced): 177 Sullivan St, Manhattan
Cammareri Bakery (Naidre's): Henry & Sackett St, Brooklyn (Cammareri bakery moved from the location in the movie to 355 Court St, Brooklyn, now F Monteleone & Cammareri Bros. Bakery)
Sweetheart Wines & Liquors (Regal Hand Bags): mulberry st, just north of canal, Little Italy, Manhattan (The parking lot where Loretta parks is across the street)
As far as the exterior of the Grand Ticino, its not at cranberry and hicks as i thought it was although it looks similar, its actually somewhere in greenwich village, i forget the address.
The Met: Where's the Met?
70 Lincoln Center Plaza, Manhattan.
At the beginning the shot of the garage and the truck pulling in, thats in the back on Amsterdam/10th Ave.

Excellent post!! It's rare that people and places stay the same, so it's really great that you took the time to do this. Buildings come and go and neighborhoods change all the time. I really appreciate it!!

Loved watching this especially since Moonstruck is one of my favorite movies and my son lived on Henry St in Brooklyn Heights for 8 months and I became very familiar with that area. Great job Amber! Margie

That's so awesome! Brooklyn looks like a place where it would be easy to grow roots. Not pretentious at all, but full of charm nonetheless.

I'm going to be a total Debbie Downer here. This reminds me of when I visited my hometown for the first time after 20 years. It was a total shock that everything had changed and I almost didn't recognize anything. I had to use a GPS just to be able to find my old house. I hated it. The town I spent my first 15 years in now only exists in my memory. Depressing, I know, but this video instantly made me recall that experience. On a positive note, I love this movie! I could watch it on repeat and not get bored with it. Cher definitely earned her Oscar with this film.

I totally understand you... I lived on 231 9th Str between 3rd and 4th Ave in Brklyn, Park Slope. When I was growing up in the early 80's it was a totally different block then it is now and so unrecognizable. My house is totally changed, the beautiful front lawn is gone and replaced by a driveway, the school and church right across the street, St. Thomas Aquinas, also totally changed. I wish I had pictures of the neighborhood but I never thought I would miss it so much cause I couldn't wait to get away from it as a kid. Now my neighborhood is run by a bunch of "Yuppies & Hipsters" and so expensive to live in.

I lived in Brooklyn back in the mid 90s and would visit Brooklyn Heights every time. Such a lovely place full of class and culture. Was back there to visit in 06 and it was as lovely as ever.

@Indio156 I know exactly how you feel. I'm a 3rd generation New Yorker, 2nd generation Brooklynite. This movie gives me a rush of nostalgia, especially when I see Cammareri bakery because I live a 2 blocks away from it. It's no longer a bakery, but I'm old enought to remember when it was. The neighborhood has gone downhill the last 10 years. It's mostly filled with yuppies these days and as for New York City itself, it's become Disneyland.

Grand Ticino was one of John Patrick Shanley, the writer's, favorite restaurants. It was on Sullivan Street in the Village and looked nothing like the movie. It was meant to be an homage by using the title. The restaurant is now called something like the dove or the wings of the dove.

Nice; but Grand Ticino was filmed on 12th Street in Manhattan; the corner of Hicks and Cranberry (where the vet was) is still a vet's office.

The Grand Ticino location is on the corner of West 12th & 4th street in Greenwich Village New York. The fluorescent palm tree light, that is in the window of the apt across the street from the restaurant is still in the window.

When the movie came out, my boss told me that my last name appeared in it...so I had to bring my pop to see...sure enough...even better, the biggest kick I got was when the old man was cursing at (or with) the dogs in Italian. My dad was the only one in the theater laughing because he understood the subtleties of the language--he really enjoyed the movie.

it's a shame that most of the real points of interst are sadly not there, especially Grand Tocino, and Cammereri's Bakery. At least that house is still there. it was sold for just under 4 million dollars the august (lucky people)

I think this is SO SAD.. I was born and raised in Manhattan, for 53 yrs, and I remember when NYC was great. Now, it's BLOOMTOWN. It's Malled, and ruined, and I WISH I could move to the remote reaches of somewhere like Arizona, and never look back, because it's just SO SAD to see what's happened -- and continues to happen -- to my city.

Man it is juts sad to see how all of these places have become so commercialized. The city, compared to that time, looks like a theme park.

@AmbraVittoria PITY the people who live in that house, because they have tourists always looking at their house, looking in windows, etc. It's NOT FUN to live in a tourist attraction!

Hate the movie…the screaming, everyone is high strung, only thing good about it are the scenes of my beautiful native New York. Otherwise you can keep the loud, classless ,yelling bunch!
