In this video I show you how to tie the Mooring hitch. The hitch is used to create a loop which is easy to untie. As such it is a super useful knot, basically working as a toggle. Enjoy the video!
Thanks Mark, another good tutorial. The mooring hitch is the same as a marlin hitch but with the final bight in the bitter end acting as the marlin spike. It's also know as a Tethering Hitch (For Horses or Cows, NOT Mobile Phones) As to it's strength, work it out for yourself, tie a hitch and you act as the boat being bounced around an see how the hitch reacts.
It’s nothing like a marlin spike hitch John. I don’t understand where you get that from. What has mobile phones got to do with anything with this hitch? , lol’s. You crack me up. I’m sorry but i just don’t get where your coming from with your comment to this hitch John. Cheer’s , have a G’day mate… P.S. I think i know what you mean about the mobile phone tethering comment part now John , so my apologies for raking you over the coals for that part of comment , within your comment itself John. Hope you except my apology John….
A better way of thing this knot is to go around your post and then make a round turn on top then pass the working end under the standing end and push your slipped end from the other side it is a much better knot
Good question, but the answer really depends on the rope and the load. Generally, since it is slipped it will hold up fairly well. What use do you intend for it? Mark
