Something that bothers me as to why Orel was cancelled is that it's completely fine when things like sexual assault is played for laughs but when it's taken seriously as a genuine thing that can really scar people then it's too much.
I think it was specifically the nurse bendy episode that got it pulled, which is a crying shame, because that episode did an absolutely unbelievable job at portraying how nuanced and complex trauma can be.
Oh yeah, and let's not forget that other Adult Swim show about the caveman and dinosaur ripping their enemies into shreds, you know, guts, blood, and all. Yeah, I'm talking about Primal. Both Primal and Moral Orel are pretty disturbing shows to the max.
@@alicerivierre dude I'm actually kind of bummed, I love anything tarkovsky put out but for some reason I just couldn't get behind primal, I feel like I missed out on something everyone else enjoyed
@@chickenbradly oh, yeah, Primal's pretty good. Initially, I didn't think I'd care for it, but now, I kinda like it. The animation itself is gorgeous (and gory!) and smooth. I also like the art style of Primal; well, I do love Tartakovsky in general.
As someone with PTSD from a sexual assault, this show amazed me from how realistic its depiction of it was. Nurse Bendy, specifically. You're fine one minute, doing something you love, and then one thing reminds you of what happened and you're set off into a fearful trigger state. I really wanna ask the creator how he did that, because it was heartbreaking but genuinely made me feel less alone.
@@Cutiepatootie11037 If spoilers are okay with you, I can tell you right here! I believe bendy was put in the foster care system, and ended up in a family where her foster father raped her. She ended up pregnant, and left the kid to be raised by the foster parent who assaulted her. She was pretty young when this happened as well, which I believe explains her "teenage esc attitude"
@@phi1105 sorry to hear what happened phi. Many of us survivors stand with you. And yes, i feel the same way. It was so realistic and hit too close to home
"Sacrifice, exactly! Tadashi sacrificed. The ultimate sacrifice, his life! For his Community! You bet he did! *You bet he did*... And he'd do it again too. Thats his life, over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over-" "Ok Bay, I get the point-" "NO YOU DONT!"
@@solblackguy the creator of morel orel said that they had to rush the ending, it’s not what they wanted, pretty sure they wanted to go for another season but A.S cancelled the further seasons.
@@femoritoesywoesy It still finished though. There are some shows that get cancelled and dont get the privilege of a finale. Whatever happened, happened, and that was the destiny of the show.
I mean yeah. Orel himself is usually the gold standard for Christianity, and half the point of the show is the contrast between his sincerity and the rest of the town with their superficial bullshit.
I was pretty nervous about this show at first since I don't typically feel welcome in any discussions about religion since I am, in fact, religious. However, I feel Moral Orel treated the subject with respect, and I never felt like it was just another edgy anti-religion show, but rather a perfect depiction of the kinds of issues that arise when hypocrisy happens. Religious or not, this show is respectful while still delivering potent truth, and AS should be ashamed for canceling it.
As a devout Christian that spends way to much time thinking existentially and reading too much into things to find meaning, this show is a masterpiece. It’s not attacking Christianity, it’s attacking hypocrisy. Every episode, even the darkest ones, can be used in theological essays. Misconceptions about God, Jesus, and the Bible’s teachings, can be easily addressed and corrected. For instance, the act of prayer in the episode where Orel uses Buddhist meditation to commune with God. The lesson there is there’s no right or wrong way to pray. Whatever gets you to talk with God is what’s important. Dissecting Clay is a whole host of different biblical lessons you can attribute. From his horrible nature, we can see makes a good man, good Christian, good husband, and good father. All based on how he’s NOT any of those things. The fact this show got cancelled, after AS told them to get more serious, is a crime against animation. It’s like how South Park is important. Everyone thinks it’s a show that makes fun of everyone and exists to offend everyone, when it’s really a show morals. The same thing with Moral Orel. They use absurd stories to convey a message. South Park is just not as subtle as Morel Orel is. But there is a lesson to be learned in every episode.
Nah all you have to do is change the characters in god chef to family guy characters and it'll be a normal episode 😭 ( and add random sequences of random things like gorillas eating stewie)
Adult Swim has a boundary which I like to call the “Dark Horizon” Where once something is on or beyond this boundary, it would be considered inappropriately inappropriate
I think it's that Adult Swim loves when potentially deep scenes are played for laughs, Like "Haha, The old scientist turned himself into a pickle to avoid therapy, funniest thing ever" but if they take it seriously and don't try to appeal to 12 year olds, they cancel the show
I know Dano said Orel's story is done, but I want to dream Adult Swim will make one more movie or special for this show. Show Orel from where we left him to becoming an adult and how he turned out okay and broke the cycles of abuse from his parents.
I always hate this phrase because people keep using it wrong, but this phrase is perfect for Moral Oral. This is one of the very few adult animated series that focus on drama rather than comedy as seen in other shows during the 2000s. While it did started out as a parody Christian media, it grew into something not seen in any other show until Bojack Horseman. A serious adult cartoon
@@allendepacheco3419 It really feels like they were possibly influenced by alternative comics (or even gekiga), and those themselves were not very visible in their time.
Moral Orel deserved to end on it's own terms and shouldn't have been cancelled for that episode about sexual abuse because of how maturely it was handled, no jokes just showing the trauma
I would personally like to see how their life is in the future like how the ending implies. We only see Orel, Christina and some background imagery of Shapey and Block. We never get to see what ended up happening to everybody else. What happened to Reverend Putty and Stephanie? What happened to Joe? What happened to all of the townsfolk including Ms. Censordoll? And most importantly wtf happened to little homie Doughy???
@@Joey7Z7Horror if you find it funny then you have some introspection to do. The joke is just misogyny. You're supposed to be disgusted by them, not laugh *with* them
@@LiterallyAna never laughed “with” them. It was funny because of how shocking and wrong it was. That’s usually part of the premise for dark humor. Whether its an antagonizing perspective or not, even though no matter, the assumption that somebody is “prejudiced” over a joke that was clearly funny to them because of the dark in it and not off of their beliefs is way more harm than good and that in itself requires some introspection that YOU need to take
I think the most powerful part of this show was at the end when it is revealed that when Orel stayed a Christian as he grows up. He never blamed god for all the shortcomings of his toxic family, even though his family blamed most of their abuse on what gods beloved was “right”. In a sense, if he had let his family ruin his relationship with god, he would let them and their abuse change his way life for the worse, letting them win. Idk it just was super impactful to me as a person when watching that show.
the thing is, its not super gory, no detailed sex scenes, they dont even swear. but the themes it explores are so dark, that that alone got it cancelled.
I started watching this as a kid because some people in my family thought. It was an actual Christian show.😂 But I really enjoyed the dark gritty storytelling. And I still watch it to this day ever so often that is especially the Christmas special.
As a Christian I feel this show isn’t making fun of religion in general, but the type of “Christians” who are hypocritical and do horrible things that god would never want them to do.
I watched every episode and it gets so depressing and dark but funny at the same time. Once you figure out every characters background story, it gets so dark. Especially the old librarian Ms Censordoll who is obsessed with eggs. Super underrated show. And if you put together Orel’s stop motion clips he makes at the end, it’s a whole episode on its own.
YES!!!! I love this show so much. I didn't start watching it until it aired the episode that canceled it which made me interested. It spoke to me as a survivor and it will always hold a space in my heart.
I loved this series. Originally began watching it because of the nurse bendy scene and I thought the show was so real. First couple of episodes orel mistakes something someone tells him for something bad gets into a situation (crack, impregnating women as gods chef) and then when clay finds out he “disciplines” him and repeat. But after the first season things took a dark turn into clay and blobertas dysfunctional marriage eventually leading to them splitting up briefly. Couple of episodes about background characters and some really sad ones but still enjoyable. Season three is when it got real. They shifted away from Orel almost entirely and it was really depressing. Everyone was just hopeless and had given up. There was the episode alone which led to the show being cancelled. Honestly a missed opportunity because moral Orel was amazing.
As someone with religious trauma this show is actually an odd coping mechanism, watching another character go through Christianity despite any wrong it caused was weirdly comforting, sucks they got canceled for *following directions*
I remember one episode and it was the one where Orel sneaks into all of his neighbors' houses and impregnates all of the women in his neighborhood. Great first impression.
This kind of Robot Chicken esque stop motion is unsettling to me, and the content (specifically the clip of the spilled milk, since that was more or less my first exposure to the show) made me nauseas. I feel like in 3D animation, or 2D, or even a more 'polished' stop motion, I'd be able to stomach it but god. That style of stop motion disturbs me and makes all the dialogue and stuff way way worse...
Bro I was gonna put the show cover on my art project at school but then my art teacher pulled me aside and said "you can’t put that on there because orel does some adult things” 😭😭😭😭😭💀💀💀💀💀💀 but yet she lets me use South Park-
And it was well on its way to becoming even darker. I believe there was a planned episode entitled Rape that never made it past the script stage. Adult Swim probably wouldn’t have gone for it regardless.
Looks interesting but I honestly don’t think I could handle watching something like this… most of the adult figures in my life were all abusive hypocrites towards me, and I’m afraid that watching this show would just unearth painful memories and feelings after I’ve only recently started to get better
I remember the episode in which Orel beats off into a turkey baster and then proceeds to sneak into his neighbors homes and impregnate every woman on the block. Shit was messed up LOL
