I'm a huge fan of Brave New World but I think it is less of an argument against happiness (in the way Weinberg presents it), but more about what exactly is happiness. In short, it's not the same as pleasure, it's more complex.
Interesting stuff. Sean, can I ask what your view is on moral semantics? What do you mean by a categorical ought-proposition, and can such a proposition be reduced to or rewritten as an is-proposition? If not, then aren't you postulating a whole new field of fundamental ontology next to what things are? Not sure if you bother with youtube-comments, but I thought I'd give it a shot.
