AI is dumb enough that finesse tools are unnecessary to outmanoeuvre them, and brings such massive numbers that said finesse tools simply cannot pull the weight needed - you need copious brute force. That is why most skirmish units like dark rider crossbows and hand crossbow corsairs don't see much use in campaign. Magic is the same. In multiplayer, vortex and wind spells are certainly useful, but precision tools like spirit leech are also prized because taking out your opponent's high value lords can be game winning. In campaign the brainless AI will often cheerfully suicide its lord for you, making tools like spirit leech entirely obsolete.

@@ashisunblade I think that the main issue is that the AI will undervalue them in autoresolve because they can't use them properly so you'll have to manually play every single battle and that'll get annoying by turn 150
