More Baby Mink! 

I breed rats and I totally understand the small enclosures for nursing mums! Mother animals want to stay on their nests more often then not and are usually more comfortable in enclosed spaces so good job! They’re gorgeous!!!

Trust me Joe, you probably know way more about Mink than literally any person who will ever comment here. Once people start complaining about your methods of taking care of mink, you'll have to learn to just ignore them because it's only going to get worse as your channel grows. Every channel about animals has this problem where the commenters think they know better when in reality they don't know anything. Keep on rockin' dude!

They are soooooo cute! Congratulations! Thank you for patiently answering questions. I learn a lot from watching your channel. I have no plans of ever raising mink, but I am an animal lover. Ferrets are some of my most favorite pets I've ever owned and I'm very fond of mustilids because of it. I also think what you do is very enlightening for animal behavior in general and some of what you do can be applied to other critters. I'm also lds and if you don't mind my saying so, I think you're very blessed with some special little spirits and I also learn a lot on a spiritual level watching you work with an animal who displays divine characteristics despite having such a reputable aggressive nature. I think it shows that a little bit of love and understanding goes a long ways.

I do similar checks when my dog has pups bud. I handle them as soon as their born to check for umbilical hernias. I know of other breeders who have experienced it and the pup needs an operation to resolve the problem when it's older. I can't imagine the complications it would cause in a baby mink. Great vid by the way.👍👍

I am new to your channel really enjoy it.

We had kittens that had some umbilical cord problems. The mom cat had them when we weren't home and the cord wasn't chewed short. It wrapped around a kittens foot and cut off the circulation. It's leg was amputated but since it was a baby, it grew up without a leg and didn't slow it down. Absolutely wrecked the leather couch though since Tripod the cat had to pull herself up with her claws. Haha

That cage is huge for a mink den, the nest box is about the biggest I've seen in the wild. The mink doesn't need more room then that since its not leaving to hunt... duh right. The biggest mink dens I've seen were old muskrat huts( wonder how they got it right) but mink being mink not muskrat they can't keep up w/ the maintenance and it usually is gone in a couple of months.

I raise rabbits , when i foster part of or a whole litter to another doe I mark the kits with a sharpie .you do have to check them everyday because it wears off but it works till the ears big enough to tattoo . I have also used quick dry nail polish that lasted a bit longer . Very , very different from rabbits literally the difference between predator and prey , mother rabbits build a huge nest and ideally for them stay far away from the kits only coming back to feed at dusk and dawn

One of the ways to foster off babies and keep track of them that is done with some rabbit breeders is to put a drop of nail polish on the baby's head, or back. It doesn't last though, so probably will need reapplication every couple days.

I’m a new subscriber and I absolutely love what you’re doing here. I really appreciate how educated you are when it comes to correct methods and just overall knowledge about what’s right and wrong for your minks. With that being said, I’m curious, would it be too dangerous for the babies to mix litters and have males grow up with males from a different litter and do the same with females so that they may be able to hunt better together as a group in the future?

My recommendation if you need to keep track of the babies, find or make natural dyes/inks. Have a color for each mom, and dab the color for each babies corresponding mom on their ear, or somewhere the skin is more visible. Check the markings and reapply the dye as they start to fade.

Can we get a tour of the minkenry? With you introducing each mink along the way?

When you have to hand-feed baby mink, what do you use as the formula? With puppies (and I've raised over 3000, so I have a clue here), the absolute best thing I've found is undiluted evaporated milk; they do _much_ better on this than on any of the specialty milk replacers. They like it best if it's almost hot (to where you'd think it was too hot for a baby) and when it comes fairly fast (so they don't have to work for it), and most will not drink reheated milk.

Hey Joseph, long time fan and just purchased your book. Are you selling any of your litter to those who wish to raise and hunt with mink? I live in Colorado and intended to look for breeders to find a nice ferret for flushing rabbits but I am starting to lean towards the idea of mink since so many of the areas I hunt also have bodies of water and hunt-able populations of muskrat. Let me know how or if I may reserve a one of the kits from your recent litters, I would love to have the benefit of knowing the mink I take home to train has been given your seal of approval as a mink suitable for a life of hunting- I'm not sure my level of trust when it comes to fur breeders and the health of the animal. Sorry if you've already covered this, farm's been busy and I haven't gotten to watch your last couple videos yet, you may have already addressed this question.

Is there any chance of detrimental effects on other species in the ecosystem? Over here in Ireland we have no wild mink here but there are escapes that have an awful impact on native species of birds and mammals!
