Why should it be difficult to become a NATO member after the Ukraine war? Switzerland 'survived' two world wars around its borders and is much less exposed now. NATO would like to travel through Switzerland and Austria instead of France. As France had troubles with NATO in the 1950s, Chrustchev decided to neutralize Austria to interrupt NATO traffic via the Brenner between Germany and Italy. So he gave up the occupation of the eastern part of Austria, as the other allies also wanted to do so. France and Great Britain were losing their colonies and had other military interests than sitting in the Alps and doing nothing essential.

@@gottfriedheumesser1994 I thought OP only meant that the sense of urgency to admit new countries quickly might be gone after the war. Joining NATO is a long process. Not sure what was meant. All countries who work with NATO aren’t in NATO, to your point. I think I saw a video UATV did recently about this, but I like NATO and want it to keep growing. It will be stronger with Ukraine. It already is, I guess, since already they have a seat at the table. I wish it could have happened decades ago so we wouldn’t be in this mess, but we cannot change the past, and I look forward to their full ascension. 😊💙💛

Let Ukrainians have fun in other countries, ask for money and weapons, and now ask for soldiers from NATO. Before 2010, Ukraine asked Russia for money and weapons. He never had his own guns or money. All they do is have fun, travel and say protect us and give us money.

The Scandinavian nations joining means Russia will rethink taking acting in the Baltic area… But a Moldova, Slovakia and Hungary path If Russia would get to occupy Ukraine and Moldavia, and ally up with Hungary, Austria will join.

And Austria lived happily and secure as a neutral state the whole cold war area, 45 years, directly at the iron curtain, bordering communist Czechoslovakia and Hungary, as a buffer-state between NATO and warsaw-pact countries. The NATO nations has a common GDP ten times, and increasing, larger than Russias fake “trust us on this” numbers. NATO spends 2% of its GDP on its defense (currently some less, but some also more). That would mean Russia has to spend 20% of its GDP on its military. Not the mere 6% as Putin has in mind. The USSR spent 17% of its GDP in its attempt to keep up with NATO… and it ended in an economic catastrophe. How big Russia is, doesn’t matter. Rather it’s a disadvantage. There’s a reason to why all former European empires aren’t empires these days. Russia should have learned too when the Russian empire collapsed. And they should have learned again when the USSR collapsed. Will they finally learn when the Russian federation collapses?!

Я дуже сумніваюся, що Швейцарія та Австрія приєднаються до НАТО. Щодо Мальти, то багато країн НАТО виступатимуть проти, бо скажуть: «Що Мальта може дати НАТО». Саме так було сказано про Чорногорію. Так, Чорногорія зрештою змогла приєднатися, але це було важко.
