I am not calling anyone out. I am showing the mistakes these dogs are making so the owner can fix them or if the dog is fake see this and realize the harm a fake can cause to a real working service dog. Service dogs make mistakes and it is possible some of these dogs are just having a bad day but they shouldn't be working on these bad of days.
Hospital clip blurred due to a complaint.
Hi, my name is Volda and my service dog is Dexter. Dexter is a pure bred Siberian Husky and psychiatric service dog. I re-homed him in January 2018 from a family that could no longer give him the attention he needed. We started PA in April of 2018. I currently struggle with PTSD, Major Anxiety, Major Depression, Memory Loss, Overactive brain, heat/light sensitivity and Type 1 Diabetes. I am an advocate for safe and responsible service dog handling. Please follow the ADA and be nice to each other!
Thanks for watching!

That poor poor poor golden retriever! If it had once been a service dog for it's handler... It should have been retired way before it's joints got so bad. I have a 16 year old that I retired three years ago who is still walking better than that poor golden. It was kinder to retire her than to force her to work once I saw that she was slowing down and just not as happy working any more. The first few times I left her home, in her nice comfortable kennel, she'd cry softly a little, wanting to go with me, but she eventually accepted her retirement and on lots of rest, her joints weren't as much in pain. The owner of the golden is outright cruel. His need for that dog, can NO WAY outweigh the needs of his faithful companion who is struggling so valiantly to keep up. It breaks my heart to see it. That dog is on the verge of needing to be eased out of its pain.

My wife and I had adopted 2 goldens who were retired. Their owners had passed on. Watching these kinds of videos tears at my heart. It gives service dogs a bad rap and I know just by my dogs gestures how hard they worked and served the owners. It gets right to your heart!

And at that age, navigating a somewhat slippery floor like that can't be easy for it, it looks like all it wants to do is lay down on a nice comfy bed, maybe with a chew toy or two. But no, it's being forced to follow it's owner around. And the owner probably thought that due to its age, it will be quiet, calm, and easy to control, perfect to pass off as a "service dog" The vest the dog is wearing reminds me of a life jacket, which the owner better prep for getting flooded by a sea of salty passersby/viewers
@DigiDrifter

@UCaaEEnX_uMSLB5Nn--xpGuQ I don't think that they're at a vets office, it actually looks to me like they're at a Walmart Customer Service desk, based on what I can see in the clip, and the music in the background, most vet offices I've been in, do not play music because some frequencies can hurt the animals ears. And in the bottom of each clip you can see the name of whoever the video belongs to, so in a ways crediting them, and I'm sure they asked them first before using them. Some service dog handlers will avoid showing certain other videos on their channels because they don't know if the person would be OK with it, or if they don't actually know the person, otherwise you probably would've seen Logan Paul's video on here.

The ones with the elderly dogs who are clearly in pain, those really kill me. A lady came into my work dragging her FIFTEEN YEAR OLD dog behind her (it was so stiff it could barely keep up) because as she told me, it had stood over her when she had a siezure at home once, so now it's her service dog (not task trained, just a natural response). So she's forcing this ancient dog to go everywhere with her after it hasn't been socialized for fifteen years, and all it can to is stand on her (maybe, assuming it doesn't run off because it's not trained). It ticked me off so much, but I was on the clock so I couldn't educate her >:(

What I look at to determine a fake SD is the critter with the thumbs. Do they correct appropriately? If the correction doesn't work do they remove themselves? Do they treat the quardraped like they are a pet on an adventure or a tool not doing its job? In my experience, many agencies and programs do not train the handlers enough in how to maintain their pups training.

Saw this link on tumblr, so we wanted to jump in and correct a few things. This isn't saying all the dogs in this video are real SDs, it's just correcting some of the misinformation of the reasonings on why. Service dogs are allowed to be on flexi leashes. It doesn't state the type of leash anywhere in the ADA, simply that the dog must be under hander's control. (Airline SDiT incident) Sometimes SDiTs do have setbacks and end up oddly reactive in a situation. Usually, a handler's job is to leave the public area they are in, but on an airline that's not possible. Also, SDiTs can fly if they also qualify as an ESA. It's up to the airline, not anyone else, to determine if the dog's behavior is safe enough for the flight. A lot of the behavior called aggression looks a lot more like excitability. Still not good to have in a service dog, but SDiTs often take months to overcome it (depending on how much impulse control and focus work was done during the younger months). Fear reactions can and do happen in new environments. The small blue vested SD might have simply been in an unfamiliar situation or had a different sound or experience happen right before filming. It seemed like a station where they couldn't simply leave, so they were taking proper steps to comfort their dog with petting and being close. When SDs aren't on duty (like the small white one outside) some handlers give them a release word where they can act like normal dogs! Barking, playing, etc. The final note is that it's not safe or helpful to call out handlers, whether they seem real or not. It adds stress to real handlers, since our dogs are imperfect too! I know there is a disclaimer that says dogs make mistakes, but sometimes a large reaction can happen in an otherwise well trained SD. If you see a dog that is disruptive or threatening in a no-pet place, simply inform and employee and remind them of their business's rights to remove the dog and handler.

@lobo asshole PTSD is a real thing. If you actually had a traumatizing event happen to you in your life you would realize this. I had PTSD because a jackass raped me (no it wasn't my fault. I was kidnapped out of my own bedroom). It is an extremely debilitating condition. I was 13 when this happened. I couldn't go to school, I couldn't sleep in my own bedroom because I was afraid of being taken, I had nightmares that turned so violent that I would hurt myself, and I couldn't go out into public. My 13 year old dog helped me through this time. She knew exactly what she needed to do to make me better. She wasn't trained what so ever. She just did it. My family and I never ever took her out to places that didn't accept normal everyday dogs. My dog got me to go out into public (we only went to places that was ok with my dog), and my psychiatrist helped out a lot also. There are quite a few restaurants near me (at the time) that would allow plain old dogs. There was also a lot of outdoor malls and stores near me that would accept normal dogs.

Actually, the notion that a service dog isn't supposed to pull, is actually somewhat incorrect- "Pulling" can be the trained service task under certain circumstances. Also, video recording of other patients in the treatment area of a medical facility is highly ILLEGAL under HIPPA regulations. The recorder could face federal prison time for at least one of these recordings. Not only that but pointing the camera at the dog can also distract a trained dog, and such could be considered causative.

@@hopewelch3307 While the HIPPA statute only applies to healthcare providers, because the healthcare provider is committing criminal negligence by allowing a recording device in a patient treatment area (i.e. this is criminal in and of itself under HIPPA) , it follows that the non-medical provider can be charged with criminal conspiracy to violate HIPPA. The conspiracy statute only requires that 1.) a person enter into an agreement 2) with another person 3) to commit any felony, and 4) commit an act in substantial furtherance of any element of the underlying offense. Notably for purposes of criminal conspiracy, the issue of whether a person is a covered entity under HIPPA is a moot point to establishing criminal conspiracy to violate the criminal portion of HIPPA.
@hopewelch3307

John Doe John Doe, so as I pointed out it’s HIPAA, and no HIPPA, and if you don’t know the acronym, I don’t trust you to know the law. If the person isn’t a covered entity, they have to be working for a covered entity for any enforcement to be taken against them. Recording in a public place, even if it is recording of medical equipment, doesn’t violate any law, especially not the Healthcare Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Yes, individuals of covered entities who aren’t covered entities themselves can face charges, but this person doesn’t have any of that responsibility. “Where an individual of a CE [covered entity] s not directly liable under HIPAA, they can still be charged with conspiracy or aiding and abetting,” but for criminal charges to take place it also has to occur knowingly and “The DOJ interpreted the ‘knowingly’ element of the HIPAA statute for criminal liability as requiring only knowledge of the actions that constitute an offense. Specific knowledge of an action being in violation of the HIPAA statute is not required.” This person wouldn’t be aware it was offense even it was, because they’ve not been trained in HIPAA and laypeople just throw it around all the time. If you want to seem credible, at least know what the law is called. I am a volunteer puppy raiser at able guide dog school and many other raisers have had trouble flying as some airlines have tightened their rules recently. It pisses me off that people with there completely untrained ESA's can fly but not the dog I've trained for many months. Logospasm - ADA law says that it is legal to have two service dogs and to bring them with you to perform tasks they are trained for. As someone else stated above some people require two for tasks that require two dogs or other reasons like the complexity or specialization of the tasks. But also if the area cannot accommodate two dogs it may be acceptable for only one of them to have access. If there is room though both have to be accommodated. It’s not about what people think it is or think it should be but what what the DOJ has in writing.

They weren't fakes because dogs are allowed to go anywhere besides grocery stores. Even service animals aren't allowed to go into grocery stores in Switzerland.

I want to point out that sometimes jumping is one of the ways SD's alert their handler. When i'm in large crowds or their is something that is triggering me such as people yelling, large crowds, or people arguing, my SD will jump up and "push" (not forcefully) me with his paws in the opposite direction as a way of alerting me that there is a trigger in that area or place and i should get away. He also jumps up and pushes his weight on me if i'm in an episode and having breathing problems (When anxious or having a 'flashback'- PTSD term- I sometimes hold my breath or not breath properly without realizing it) as that much weight- over 105 pounds- hitting you in the chest will make you take a deep breath in as well as bring you back to reality. What i'm trying to say is just because a service dog jumps up doesn't mean it's fake, and just because your service dogs task don't include jumping up doesn't mean nobody else's does... so some of those dogs where all they did was jump up might have just been tasking. I also want to add that if he jumps on me while i'm not breathing or not breathing properly and I continued to have problems, he is trained to look at someone and bark at them as a way to try and get their attention. So barking at someone can also be a task. (I want to point out that my SD is trained to bark only when it's his last resort and there's nothing more he can do to help me. If I continue to hold my breath after he's done everything he could, he is in the right to bark. This could result in me passing out and/or getting hurt or hurting someone else.)

They dont bark pull lunge etc because they are true service dogs who have been properly trained. Period. I dont even have a service dog and i know this to be true simply by observing many while theyre out with theyre handlers, even those in training dont do any of that. Yes people claiming pets as service animals is a HUGE issue especially in the US and i have no doubt it negatively impacts legitimate dogs and the disabled. However there seems to also be a huge culture of overreacting and acting aggressively opposed to educating people or perhaps a genuine service animal having a bad day is attached and sworn at by these people obsessed with filming and calling the police ect! It's not so much the age but overall health. You can have a service dog who is over 13 years old depending on the health and the breed of the dog. For instance a disabled dog can still act as a service dog as long as the disability does not affect the ability to do certain tasks. For instance a deaf dog can help an autistic individual in terms of sensory issues. I told the managers at a restaurant I frequent that I want to get on the waiting list and plan to tell them what I need the dog to be trained to do

This is why I as a real service dog handler have problems now. My service dog, a doberman, was almost attacked by a “service dog”. We walked by a table in a restaurant and a small service dog flew out from under the table and went for his legs. He was stopped but he continued to pull and bark at my dog, who remained quiet and calm. And would not stop cause it could see my dog. The owner even joked saying “Yeah, get em.” We complained and the restaurant manager said once they show him a service dog license he cant do anything and has already been threatened to be sued by the people of the fake service dog. By law if a service dog is causing a disruption (such as constant barking and aggression) they and their owner cam be kicked out. I get accused all the time now and questioned constantly if my dog is real or fake. People thinking I just want to take my big doberman places and “look tough” since I have no outward disabilities (like being blind or in a wheelchair). And we have been turned away or denied access cause they think Im no different.

Could you help me with a question? (THIS WAS BACK IN THE EARLY 2000S-TAKE NOTE AS YOU READ THIS) I know the difference between an ESA and a Service Dog but: My grandmother had a TRAINED ESA dog after my grandfather died and she was dealing with depression and loss. It was a 5 pound poodle named Samantha. Thought she was well trained yes, the laws that state she couldn't go places were really hard for my grandmother because she would get really upset in some situations, and if Samantha wasn't with her-it would get worse. She was a new widow after a 40 year long marriage-SHE WAS ALONE AND SAD. Samatha was a real help to my grandmother, helping her find comfort-a job that my late grandfather usually did before he passed. His passing only made it harder. My grandmother wouldn't have qualified for the types of services that a service dog gave in the eyes of a doctor or the state. However she did qualify for an ESA. ESA do important jobs too. Why won't they give ESA the same chance service dogs get? My grandmother didn't have PTSD, yes but she did grieve every year after my grandfather died and it was hard every day!. And you know who brought her comfort??--Her ESA Samantha. I understand people take advantage of the laws and bring fake ESA/SA's everywhere but at the same time I feel like the laws diminish the work that ESA's do. (I'm thinking in dog terms-no peacocks or anything-that's ridiculous) But for those who do actually need extra support but don't qualify for a SERVICE dog--why does it seem that an ESA situation is less important than a service animal situation? Both do important work. I just don't get it. AND PLEASE NO HATING-I'm just confused and would like an answer!

I'm not a lawmaker so I can't say for sure but the worry is that ESA don't need any training which could cause issues for trained service animals. Also a lot of people qualify for a esa which would cause issues for people who don't like or are allergic to dogs. Dex was once a esa so I know the importance of them, although the way esa is defined right now would have to be more strict to allow them into public!
@LeylaBabii251
@LeylaBabii251 5 лет назад
ESA's do not have public access under the law for a variety of reasons. For starters, they aren't required to be trained, their handler does not have a disability where it would be difficult or impossible to function without the animal and any species of animal can be an ESA. My dog has been through temperament testing, behavioral testing, health testing, desensitization training, obedience training, public access training. Almost 2 years worth of training and several thousand dollars to make sure that he was capable of the tasks I require of him, but also capable of handling all the stimuli that comes along with public access work. He has been attacked 3 times by other "service dogs," and almost had to be washed due to leash reactivity from it. It took 6 months with a trainer and being pulled from public access until the issue was resolved. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if ESA's also had public access rights.

The really big problem with this is that an animals behavior doesn't establish that the animal is a "fake" service dog. The legal definition is as follows: [“Service animal” Any dog that is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability.]. Notably, we don't see ANYTHING in that legal definition pertaining to the animal's behavior. Rather to establish a fake service animal you would have to submit that the animal somehow doesn't fall within that definition or else an element of fraud with respect to something explicitly stated in the legal definition. This is basic law school 101 stuff with respect to statutory interpretation.

My SD is an 11 year old brindle pit bull. She’s still in training and because of an incident with another dog that a woman claimed was a “service dog” she’s now terrified of other dogs. He punctured a hole in her chest. (It healed) but it’s still the fact that a woman says it’s my fault. After that I broke down and ended put at the hospital. I was given more meds and it’s still scary for me and her if I see a strange dog too close.

If a service dog barks at you and continues to stare at you or look at you and then their handler and then back at you, but it doesn't seem aggressive or like a fake SD and the handler isn't doing anything about it, you might want to just look at the handler and make sure there okay. Some SD's such as mine are trained to bark at someone and continue to look at them or the person and their handler. Most of the time it's because they have done everything THEY as a dog can do for the handler and their last resort is to get somebody else's attention to see if that person can help their handler.

These people say that their dogs get attacked, but in this video the guy provokes the dog that wasnt doing anything by taunting him walking his service dog back and forth the non service dog.

I have several issues with this video. 1st, you are not a "Gate Keeper" or "Law Enforcement" you do not have the right to confront a dog and handler team. That is the job of a "Gate Keeper" or "Law Enforcement" 2nd, you do not have the right to determine if a dog is a "Service Dog" or "Fake Service Dog". A dog that does tasks or work to assist a person with a disability that they can not do on their own, is a "Service Dog" calling them a "Fake Service Dog" is wrong. They may not be properly trained for PA, but they are still a "Service Dog" Also you confronting the person and rudely saying their dog is a "Fake Service Dog" Puts more stress on the "Disabled Person", and will probably cause the Dog to be more stressed because it's handler is in more stress. 3rd, If the Disabled Person has PTSD, Panic Disorder, Public Anxiety, Autism, Neurological Problems, Seizures, and other disabilities that can be affected by confrontation, You confronting them could Trigger them and make matters worse, and also distract the "Service Dog" from reacting properly to the Trigger/Distress/Anxiety of the handler, because you are there harassing them. So instead of being helpful, you are causing a Disabled Person Distress, and causing the exact thing that they are wanting to avoid, and why they have a "Service Dog" to begin with. 4th, a "Service Dog" doesn't have to be trained to be in a particular heel position, or particular tuck position etc. It is the Handlers right to train the dog to walk, at whatever position the handler prefers, (my Service Dog is trained to walk slightly ahead of me, because she is small and I want to be able to see her while I am walking to make sure she doesn't get stepped on, and trained to walk on which ever side is farthest away from hazards, like cars and people etc) and lay in whatever position the handler prefers (my Service Dog is trained to get in her rolling carrier [if I am using her rolling carrier that day], or to lay on a dog cushion or dog blanket, or in my lap, depending on the situation) ect. 5th, confronting people about their Dog, (if it is not a Service Dog, or is not properly trained, or is aggressive ect) puts you and your Service Dog in danger.

Just because your dog is calm in public doesn’t mean you can say it’s a service dog. Service dogs are trained from literally birth to help their handlers

Legally you can have 2 SDs if needed. For example, you need a guide dog and a medical alert dog, you may have two dogs as guide dogs walk in front, and aren’t actively checking in for alerts.

Exactly!!! We service Dog handler seriously need to stop acting entitled and going around places harassing people recording them calling their dogs fake making a big scene instead of just handling it professionally and it gets really irritating!!! A lot of them are like don’t even look at my dog like grow up it’s a dog and it’s going in public it’s not all that common to see it and people are going to be curious if you can’t handle the pressure don’t have a service dog!!! Our job is to educate not to be nuisance entitled brats walking around harassing people making videos!! It’s one thing to educate it’s another to just be entitled and being rude!!

The thing is everyone thinks that the DOGS are the ones in the wrong, and the dogs are being bad and that they should know better, when really it's the human. The dog isn't misbehaving. It's impossible to misbehaving when you don't know a thing about the RIGHT way to behave in public. The dogs are just being normal doggies.

@@Streamysudz Look, dude. Half of the time the dogs people bring aren't even aggressive. I assure you almost none of them will attack your dog, and if you're s o sure that your dog will be attacked, don't confront the "fake" service dog. Instead, move away from the situation.
@Streamysudz

@@puppyplans6197 Firstly, I'm not a dude. Secondly, unless you have a service dog you cannot speak for or tell us handlers what happens with other dogs. aggressive, reactive, or excited. all untrained dogs still pose a threat to a working dog in a working dog only area. My guide dog has been attacked so many times. It's unbelievable.

Housebroken? Dogs are animals if we're in a store, and the dog, needs to use the bathroom even though telling its handler but the handler is busy or having an AD IT does NOT mean its a FAKE service dog, its DOG for christ sake, they make mistakes, human does too. As long as the handler picks up there pets mess they should not even be kicked out, it's against the law. not all dogs are potty trained, my service dog isn't, but I try to train her. but she doesn't go to the bathroom in the house (anymore) but still. shes a dog, it's normal for dogs to make mistakes from time to time. Also, sometimes my service dog drags me but I never drag her. The sad part is, people, say "if the handler cant walks the dog properly or drags "push" the dog close to them, its a fake SD. girl, what if I don't feel comfortable enough WITHOUT my SD BY me!? does that mean im fake too? LIKE SERIOUSLY. omgggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg. people! ALSO! if a SD growls at you, it probably warning their Handlers beforehand! or TRYING to protect their HANDLERS it's what A DOG DOES.

I would like to say that the one at the end of the video of 2 people talking outside with the white dog how do you even know its a service dog to me its just a person walking there dog with a harness and not all harnesses mean service dog we had to get a harness for our dog because the collar jokes her so we put a harness on her and the white dog in the mall was not aggressive those kind of dogs are hyper very hyper and love attention because my aunt has one and acts the same way

If any service dog, even in early stages of training, behaved like these dogs they’d be out of the program immediately. Service dogs are chosen early by their natural temperament. But for those older dogs who clearly shouldn’t be working any longer - it doesn’t mean they’re fake, just well past their working days and should have been retired long ago 💔😢

I can't believe people have such badly behaved dogs in the first place. My dog was no service dog, but he never pulled on the leash while walking once he was trained and always sat down when I told him to.

Alot if these has to do with irresponsible owner. Emotional support animals are not given the same right as service dogs. People using ESA in Lou of Service animals is the problem alot of the cases

Service dogs are a great thing, however, there are far too many self entitled people out there that do not need one and love to shame anyone that doesnt understand what an SD is/does. Sad sad people who need to get a life.

For the older dogs, it’s possible the owner has had the dog for a long time and is going to wash (retire) them soon, that doesn’t always mean a fake and also the dog with the limp, I had an experience once while out with my girl (a soon to retire service dog as well) where she stepped on a bee by accident (shit happens) and it swelled up her paw for a few days but we were in the middle of an outing when it happened and I didn’t notice until we were half way through the mall that she was limping, but her bee incident doesn’t make her a fake. Of course I rushed her to the vet as soon as I noticed and they reassure me it was just a bee sting and she would be fine to get back to her routine in a day or two. But all the same, her age doesn’t make her a fake (dogs don’t stay young forever they all get old even service dogs) and her having a hurt foot one day didn’t make her a fake. She is going to be retiring soon because she is having hip problems but she still enjoys her work and is still capable of tasking

Many of these dogs are considered fake because they are too old or because they can't walk but in My country, Spain, service dogs work for almost all of their lifes and Ive seen many times blind people with guide dogs who can barely walk and they are not fake. This happens because theres not enough money to train more service dogs. But a good thing in Spain is that no one pretends to have a service dog, theyre all real👍

I don't nessasarily think all these are fake, I just feel like it's unethical to work a dog that can barely walk.

My service dog Loki is still in training but he acts better than most of the dogs on here. Dont get me wrong he is no where near perfect, he's still uncertain around shopping carts and tile floor so he does tail tuck. Service dogs can be fearful of new situations such as an airport or on a plane. Their no machines.

Thank you for pointing out the REAL service dogs make mistakes! As a service dog trainer for 8 years I've had dogs in the training phase do some pretty dumb things! But you know what I DON't do? Get defensive about it. I'm the embarrassed one because I know what they're doing is wrong and I need to fix it! I also remove my dog from the place/situation right away and don't put them back into that situation until we've done more work in the area they need. I've also worked with mentors in the field who've been doing this for 20+ years, because it's REALLY hard to learn to properly train a service dog on your own with no prior knowledge. (possible, but difficult!) That's what makes you a good service dog handler; not just slapping a vest on your dog and calling it a day.
