@@cryptainer668 Or... Here me out... Grab a water bottle and just *go hike.* Find a local, medium to short trail and just go hike. You don't need to spend hundreds to go walk in nature.

@@smileyguyz absolutely. You can have an incredible amount of fun in nature with a good pair of hiking shoes and a bottle o' water. I was saying if he wanted to do overnighters.

​@angie7010-dp5sl hey man I was homeless for many years as well, and this channel IS a good one for tips such as this. But for the homeless side if things, don't be afraid to ask people for help. We all can sense honesty to some degree, and when you approach or stop someone be sure to be honest about what you need, most people will outright buy it for you. "Hey man" "Exscuse me, sir" "Miss?" Are all really good ways to politely get someone's attention, following with "I don't need you cash but I do need your help, if you could grab me some food" (a sleeping bag, pack, phones, weed, I went from asking people for money for things to just asking for things) It's honest, and it gets you help faster than anything else, and you don't waste your time spanging or flying a sign. You can take that time now to do as you please, and that should be to get back inside on your feet STAY AWAY FROM BOOZE. And obviously hard drugs. Stay away from hardcore drug users and alcoholics, you are who you associate with. Libraries are your friend, free computer acces for jobs and couch surfing, and a place to be warm and charge devices. If you are in a place of less opportunities, hitchhike to the next! It possible to do I promise, just use common sense and caution. You may find you like traveling, and if so hop on the road! Go off and see all you've wanted to see, I've been to 45 states in my 4 years of homelessness, you don't have to stay where you are!! This was essential on my last trip earlier this week as I was having a fever and just couldn't stay warm enough without it. I'm glad it didn't got much below - 10C Only works below the tree line though, but it's a great trick.

I think it's a natural thing we do , common sence . I've made a nest 4 feet high when I didnt have sleeping bag , woke up at 3:30 am with two bucks standing over me . But than again I've always been around or in the bush since I was 5 out hunting , chickens and rabbits . Thinking back now at 60 , i was out hunting with a 177 pellet gun miles from home . Had Two types of bears , Grizzlies and black . Mountain lions, lynx, Bobcats, in are area . children today will not know the fun , or the extra sence you will develop being so close to nature . Cure for Atention deficit disorder imo Get them into the forest for a day or two .

@@fragilelivesbrokendreams3074 I have attention deficit disorder and I'm currently doing a university degree in outdoors recreation. It's definitely not a cure. There's no such thing as a cure for attention deficit disorder as it's caused by a difference in brain structure. What helps is support and understanding, as well as accepting yourself with the limitations you have. That, and working hard on developing skills that can alleviate the problems that the disorder causes for your life. But the symptoms persist whatever you do.

@@DirtyPoul there was a time when a friend of my son came with us for a adventure into the woods . Next day his mother came over and thanked me for taking her son for the afternoon . She said that she didnt have to give him his meds for add that night as he was relaxed and slept great . To much simulation with the tv shows of today . I've watch the real old ppl faces / body reactions as they watch shows with violance and such . I noticed that their bodies and faces were reacting to what was on the screen . I have sat outdoors on the back stoop . Just me and all the animals .Quite and nobody is really stressing . It's good for the soul to get out there tbh .

One of those reflective emergency blankets can go along way in keeping you warmer on frozen ground.

​@Matt D False. Those reflective blankets do nothing to prevent heat transferred by conduction. If you are touching that blanket, and it is touching the ground, heat is transferring. Space blankets have basically zero insulation. They are made for the other two types of heat transfer: Convection and radiation. They're great with radiation. They can block wind, and trap some heat from your breath... but they're not breathable, so if your breath condenses on it, you get wet, and you get cold quicker, then die quicker.

While camping with my son in scouts, we camped one weekend where the daytime temp was 6d F and nighttime temps at or near 0. The next morning, you could tell who had the emergency blanket under their bedding and who did not by the size of the patch of thawed earth.

​@@phil2082 Getting wet only matters if that moisture can escape. That's why you can layer two socks with a plastic back between the two socks to keep much warmer as it prevents the moisture from cooling you down through evaporation.

@@DirtyPoul Moisture can escape from these bivys. Furthermore, that liquid conducts heat away from skin even faster than the space blanket material was before.

There's lots of factors, but 35° is a dangerous temp range if it should rain or snow melt. I'm getting down below 10° where I am at with below zero threatening in a few days. I got my ground padding mostly solved provided my stealth doesn't get compromised, but I found an extra help that has done me well: A simple silver car sunshade from the $1.35 store (aka dollar tree). Cheap, light, replaceable but works well for everynight use.

Having the woods to go to is lucky.

Hammock depends on the person. For some of us, it's one of the worst ways to sleep in any temp, but to its credit, it adds a great option for more adventurous types in terrain where good ground campsites are hard to find, like the rainy, thickly wooded Northwest. Therefore I carry a very lightweight hammock for short nights when getting back on the hiking trail is higher priority than a good camp with fire, cooking, et cetera. The latter is my much preferred choice, but I love options and I'm willing to pack a little heavier to have them. - Semper Gumby

@@andredeketeleastutecomplex Compression. All that fill goes to waste. Add a bivvy bag with padding as well (Layers) (...and big enough for a pack)!. I used military ones anyhow. Hot cold, wet...that's life!

I believe that is right. But what ever touches the snow will try to equalize temperature through conduction. Like ice in a cooler. The beer will melt the ice a bit, but the ice will make the beer very cold.

It’s tested and rated with a weighted dummy on it. So the r value should be fairly accurate.

Way too low R-value. You'll get cold no matter the rating on your sleeping bag in those temperatures. Insane that they'd advertise that.

It works great I use this method everytine I camp in the winter. And the winters here are cold and snowy.

@@CanadienWoodsman Can you list specifics? 1. What air pad are you using? (what's the ASTM R value rating?) 2. What closed cell pad are you using? (what's the ASTM R value rating?) 3. What are the temps in C (preferably F if you know) when you stack them, with the closed celled foam on bottom?

@@Warrior_Resisting_Colonialism So friend, here are the mats, I use a sea to summit ultra light R and a savotta mat layered one on top of an other. I tested this setup with a tarp, laying on snow. In minus 35 celius. I do not know the specifics for the R rating. But I can certify it works. Good day mate.

@@CanadienWoodsman Thanks for the reply. So your air pad is only 1.1 R and the foam is 2 R. That's only 3.1 R (stacked either way). 3 R is "good" down to about 50F or 10C. I have a 3.7 R pad and it's no good at all in winter. Anything lower than 40F / 4.4c it's worthless. I'm sorry, but there's just no way 3.1 R will take you down to - 31F / -35C. For those temps you NEED at least 6R, preferably 7 R. If you tested this, you probably only did so for a couple minutes. If you laid on 3.1R for 20 minutes, your butt would turn to ice. I tried my 3.7 R pad with a 2 R foam pad under it at 18F / -7C and it didn't seem to do anything. I tried with the pad on top at temps above freezing at 35F / 1.6 C and the test failed after watching a movie, I had a cold butt and sore legs but at least the foam pad seemed to do something. I removed the foam pad and couldn't even lay there for 20 mins. That was 5.7 R and at 35F / 1.6C it "should" have been enough keep me warm all through watching one movie and even all night for that matter, even right down to 0F but couldn't. Both were thermorest pads too. True R ratings. I'm sorry, but there's just no way you could make due with such low R at such low temps. It's just impossible. You need at least 6 R total.

Price depends on what size you get and what gear you already have. The 6.9 pad wide (I exclusively sleep on wide pads) is $250 last I checked. And is over kill in the summer. Not to mention less comfortable. The 4.2 pad is something a lot of hikers already have. Or maybe a 3.2 pad. If you have one of those already it’s much cheaper to buy a closed cell foam pad and boost your r-value than a $250 pad you will only use 1-2 times a year. Even if you don’t have any gear yet, the layered pads will be more versatile, but admittedly bulkier/heavier. All of these factors will effect what someone should buy…but that is a lot of info to communicate in a short video. Hopefully someone won’t resign the entirety of their research and winter planning to one 30 sec video they saw on RU-vid.

R value is used to measure the insulation in walls of homes and RV’s. So I don’t know it depends on how efficiently your RV holds that heat in? 😉
