Hello Andrew. This is a very sweet hymn. I never heard of Elizabeth Prentiss. I found this hymn in my hymnal and wanted to learn it. And there you were. Thank you. I enjoy learning new hymns, but I also love to learn about the lyricists and composers. It makes the hymns come alive. Thank you again. God bless. Take care and stay safe.
There is a wonderful acapella version of this hymn that we have sung at Grace. The last verse is: Then shall my latest breath, whisper Thy praise. This be the parting hymn my lips shall raise..." September 21. Lord bless you, Andrew!
I have recorded 6 complete hymnals and over 2800 hymns so far. Recently I have been going through all of them and doing some editing, I have found that the Presbyterian Hymnbook is by far and away the most popular of all of them. It really has become the standard all others are judged by, without a doubt my favorite.
I agree about the hymn but I don't understand your comment. I played the hymn three times as was my habit at the time. I also included a total of 4 stanzas I found for this hymn in the description. What 3rd stanza am I missing?
OH! There it is! Sorry about that. I didn't think to look there. Thank you for including the full lyrics. I apologize for assuming wrongly. May the Lord Bless you for all the people you are touching and encouraging with these wonderful hymns.
