I'm undecided between both the VW & Audi. The VW seemed small inside...will test drive in a few days, hopefully this will determine which car I choose!
Sorry, did you forget to mention that the VW T-Roc R-Line comes standard with AWD while the Audi Q2 35 TFSI is only 2WD? That is a big difference worth highlighting!
thank Tom for another great video. Being an owner of Q2 2.0 TDI, I certainly enjoy the sporty setting but also complain the harsh ride quality and plastic all around the cabin. Also want to point out the rear suspension for 35 TFSI isn’t independent which is a shame for a “premium “ brand. Another big factor which may push people away from Q2 is Audi has decided to discontinue Q2 in the near future.😢 , making the current model the last generation.
I've leased both these cars multiple times over the past few years. 19 inch wheels is a mistake on both in my opinion. Road noise, vibrations, makes decent roads feel like gravel. The 18s Feel like entirely different cars, much more pleasant to drive. Otherwise Audis Control Scheme has been unmatched for 10 years in this segment. The optioned sound system is quite a lot better in Audi, The virtual cockit is bigger, build quality is much better. The Troc has a really nice feeling steering wheel, Better looking IQ lights, and rear cross alert, not available on the Audi.
If you are not a Brand Snob you can look at the other group car that is 2/3 the price. (1/2 the price if you go for the 1.0 TSi). A Skoda Kamiq has no less space, no less fit and finish, no more NVH, no less features or functionality. To me the Audi interior is a bit dated and VW is trying to hard to be up todate, thus losing functionality and usability. Skoda is a nice middle ground of functionality and modernity.
@@chasingcars I appreciate that the Kamiq is theoretically on a smaller platform, but it has significantly more rear passenger leg room than the T-ROC.
@@tamascsirik9509 Karoq is definitely bigger externally than the Kamiq, but for me rear passanger leg room is key and the Karoq is fractionally less than the Kamiq.
I have the Kamiq 2021 Limited edition with everything. It was cheaper than the newest ones and has been a dream to drive. I really wanted the troc but it felt smaller inside. Love my Kamiq. Highly recommended. Also have to say the fuel economy is amazing.
This is exactly the comparison I am making. Adding the Karoq Sportline, which is Skoda’s comparable vehicle mechanically, and optioning them all with available packages, would be great. Did you mention the T-Roc passenger seat never comes with electric adjustment - no matter which level or package you buy. Currently still leaning towards the Skoda Karoq, but will probably wait until the new model arrives with the outstanding multifunction dials. Lloyd
Why wasnt the comparison with the 40TFSI? you would have like for like then. Both in power and AWD. The drive quality etc with different weights isnt fair, aside from its size this isnt a comparison that means much.
We’re in the search for a used compact SUV. Our options are 2021/22 Mazda cx5, BMW X1 and Audi Q2. In my country, they are comparable in price (used). I know that bmw is higher class compared to audi but the interior of it looks way too old for me. Audi still looks somewhat ok with digital instruments. Also, for the same price, q2’s have lower milage compared to the bmw. When it comes to the mazda we’re a bit scared of it 2.2 liter engine’s fuel consumption. I’d love to hear what would be your choice.
🇦🇺 From my experience with Audi, it is almost impossible to buy a "base" model anything off the showroom floor. It appears they all come into this country with some sort of pack already installed. Maybe it's possible to order a base model if you are prepared to wait.....?
Audi prices are out of control. Over $100,000 for a basic Q5 is daylight robbery. The equivalent Lexus is $80,000. The Lexus gearbox won’t go to shit either.
@@chasingcarsyeah but why buy cars the same colour as the road, it is camouflage and these grey colours tend to be involved in more accidents as harder to see regardless of switching on drive lights. I mean why does the army not go back to red coat uniforms? It’s even worse when electric cars are the same colour as the road, first you don’t hear them or see them through your peripheral vision and now a days so many people with earphones… just saying and I don’t think that all cars should be painted bright yellow either… With that said I do love your reviews, cheers
For parents like me, easier ingress and egress with babies (don't hit your head on the roof). For those of us with shit driveway paving, ground clearance. If I had an i30N instead of a Kona N, I'd have no front bumper.
We have been tempted to upgrade our 9 y.o. A3 sedan but the fit and finish and quality of our 'old' car is so much better than the new A3. Performance and economy are also better than this Q2 and realistically, the A3 sedan does everything and more that a Q2 would do.
Why does everyone love bmw and Audi rotary dials and calls them “safe” and anytime Mazda do it with there current cars people lose there shit and complain and say “oh it is so old” seriously just so annoying
I would take the t-roc over the Audi every day. The Dry Clutch 1.5 TSi on the Q2 is just favourable and also not tunable for more fun drives. I would rather Have a good 2.0 TSi wet clutch Platform to work on and make it come closer to something an Audi delivers, than being handicapped in modifying the weaknesses due to poor decisions and higher purchasing costs.
Sat in a similarly optioned audi q2 and wasn't really impressed with the sea of grey, really didn't feel like a luxury car should. Its pretty disappointing that the VW interior is even worse. Audi/VW really need to step their game up.
The VW dash leaves the Audi for dead. That stupid Audi dash screen looks too after market. Those centre circular air vents are way overdue for an update, not to mention the entire dash. The T Roc is way more on the money.
Both have piece of shit DSG gearboxes, don’t buy either. Stop being a brand snob and buy a Japanese or Korean car. After 50 years of buying Euro cars I’ve finally seen the light. My status in the community will go down now, I think I can handle it. I’ll be the one smiling in my new Lexus/ Honda.

Lol you are tripping. DSG is the best auto transmission, unlike Japanese which most just use Aisin gearboxes.
Yes and no. Yes on equipment for the price. But aside from the BYD Atto 3 (which rides very well and handles…OK), Chinese SUVs on sale in this country are nowhere near the dynamic match of this pair.
