I remember driving through the city cycle hangouts, seeing the chamois cream addicts looking for a fix. It makes it hard to get a coffee when they are constantly hassling you for some cream in their shorts.

Chamois cream as a heavy 100kg+ rider is a god send. When you have a lot more contact pressure on your saddle any extra anti-chafe relief is welcome. When you are a 65kg racing snake? Not so much.

When gravel was new, max clearance on bikes were 700x38-40 and 650b x47. But now more gravel bikes can take 700x47-50, so the smaller wheel isn’t as necessary anymore except on XS size bikes
@richeeg3271
@richeeg3271 Год назад
I'm surprised they didn't mention the weight advantage. For the same price, 650b are usually going to be lighter. That's why I'd say they're a good option for budget gravel bikes
@lenolenoleno
@lenolenoleno Год назад
@@richeeg3271 That's because the weight advantage is moot and in many cases doesn't exist. 650b WTB Byway 47mm 535g + DT GR531 650b rims 500g = 1035g for tyre and rim. 700c 44mm = 479g + DT GR531 rim 535g = 1014g. The 650b setup is 3mm wider, but actually weighs more. It has less inertia sure (so spins up a bit quicker) but people aren't riding 650b gravel wheels to optimise for sprint intervals. 650b benefits are to get increased traction/comfort, without sacrificing geometry (this is bike dependant, so long the geo is optimised for it) on size XS and some S (with conventional road geo/short front center measurements).
@charlesmansplaining
@charlesmansplaining Год назад
650b wheels can be a dream come true for a custom made road frame for small riders. Think about the difficulty in geometry of 700c for someone under say 5 ft. The bike wouldn't handle the same or you couldn't get properly aero. 650b have multiple scenarios where they are the perfect size. No way they are over-rated.
@kbd13-n9c

@lenolenoleno
@lenolenoleno Год назад
Mountain biking is overrated? One of the stupidest takes. I've said this in a previous video. Francis is often the voice of a normal reasonable person and Jimmy is just being deliberately obtuse, having little to no idea about cycling outside road cycling. Should just refrain from having such strong opinions outside his lane, clickbait be damned. Yeah sure it takes more effort to ride MTB (for most people) than road cycling from your front door. So does a lot of gravel riding. So does a lot of road riding. By that metric commuting cycling is objectively the "best". You've got a hell of a lot of videos showing you travelling to ride different terrain. Just because you ride MTB doesn't mean you exclusively ride MTB and that's it. It also provides a totally different feeling/high than road cycling (which is all performance focused, not a hell of a lot of skill, fitness based) vs. MTB where you can really get into a flow state aka Type A fun. If MTB isn't accessible due to location/topography and your primary driver for cycling is "convenience" then don't do it. Ice climbing isn't accessible for almost everyone in Australia but I wouldn't then be pressed to say it's "oVeRRaTeD" because there aren't walls of ice where I live.

The terrible/good thing about caffeine is that you can take it to relieve headaches, but if you get hooked, you have to take it to keep from getting headaches. lol Caffeine withdrawals are no joke, but one of the lighter withdrawals (physical symptoms wise) in the spectrum of drugs/chemicals. The body compensates usually within a week as long as you don't focus on the act of caffeine injection method (getting a coffee/tea/soda/energy drink).
