We germans got a independence movement as well, you don't believe it? Germans are saying that Germany has never become the 3rd Deutsches Reich nor the Federal Republic of Germany, they say there never was a proove for the Treaty of Versaille after World War 1 meaning that Germany is still a controlled Nation from Huge Nations like the Usa, France and the uk(not sure about the uk) there are people who created Passports for The German Empire/Kaiserreich, they got punishments for illegal passport creations and not paying bills and taxes, they even say: If a Person enters OUR Property he instantly Enters the German Kaiserreich and leaves the country he was inside a moment ago, meaning that you would leave the Federal Reublic of Germany and Enter the German Kaiserreich, it sounds crazy but even some assholes are still waiting for Hitlers return no matter how, once he does they will support him since they were loyal to the Führer like never before, it's possible for a big German Revolution in the coming Century or even Decades

@odralapoel4506

@@user-cw3cy3ov4b You're right, France doesn't want Corsica to become independant.But it has nothing to do with Napoleon's birthplace (note : he was raised on the continent, with few attachment to the island. Corsica's true legendary hero is Pascal Paoli who proclaimed the first independant corsican republic in 1755). It's mainly about money and power. France heavely relies on its maritime zones, and does not want to set an example to all its others islands in the Caribbean, Pacific and Indian Oceans ... (well it's a little bit more complicated and I'm not an expert, so feel free to look up details) What I meant in my comment was : Britanny's independance movement is completely dead today. Whereas Corsica's is very lively, with some violent events in the recent years. That's all

In 1997 a group of Venetian people tried a coup d'etat with a home made tank in Venice, they kept the control of a small part of the city for about nine hours but then they had been arrested. I am not sure what Bulgaria and Hellas think about that and it may cause a whole conflict which is unnecessary. We had fought enough, and I personally always hated that. Flemish isn't an official language, it's more of a collection of dialects. The official language for Flanders is Dutch. We share the same grammar, vocabulary and spelling, and even have a "Grand Dictation" contest. for a large part of the second half of the 20th century, we were taught the "General Civilized Dutch" language. the "civilized" part was dropped late in the period, because it was derogatory to the regional dialects, some of which started to disappear.

If you ever make a part 3 of this "series", and for anyone interested in this kinda thing: As of 2020/2021, there is also currently a political party that seeks a separation between the North and South of England, known as the Northern Independence Party or "Free The North" - basically, the North has had enough of constantly being let down by the Westminster government, and as someone who lives in the North of England, I totally get it. The UK government is literally one of the most unfairly centralized governments, the North-South divide is a real thing, the economy and infrastructure of the North suffers compared to the south, and it always has for a long time. You may not think it, because yes the North has great cities like York, Manchester and Newcastle - but the reality is that for the most part? Our towns see no development anymore, (my hometowns high street is dead, it's just charity shops, vape shops and computer repair shops, it's awful) and the transport system up here, especially outside the cities, can be abysmal, there's a great lack of jobs that force people to need to move further afield, etc etc. We get promised so much from our Government yet it is never received. So what the N.I.P wishes is to separate from the westminster government and form a separate nation, north of the river Humber, known as Northumbria - as named for the Historical meaning of it generally being considered "The North" and from the merged historic kingdoms of the 7th century being the last time the North was united as an independent entity. The Flags colours would be burgundy red and gold - from the flag of Northumbria (one of the oldest flags in the world) and the colours of Northumbria's founder St Oswald. It is more likely that "Northumbria" as a nation is not going to have a capital city - so that the government/economy etc does not revolve around one centralized location, but instead there may be different "capitals" for different functions. The Queen would most likely still be invited to have some sort of Reign over Northumberland, as a part of being a commonwealth nation much like Canada for example. :)

@@leowilly29 I don't think Belgium will ever split. Even though a lot of the flanders tax money flows to wallonia most People don't want Belgium to split. Most people who vote voor N-VA and Vlaams belang do this because they want less immigrants. I think they want this, not out of racism but because a lot of criminality in Belgium is Committed by north africans and Arabs. Furthermore all of the other parties have a pact that they Will never rule with Vlaams belang because some of their members have been openly racist or discriminating towards holebi's. N-VA are liberals who looks after the industry and the rich, while Vlaams belang are socialists. So even though they want some of the same things, I don't see NVA breaking that pact because they have contradictional economical ideas. As last the majority of the flemish People would never want to be a part the Netherlands. We don't really need them to survive. The California Republic separating from the US is also improbable. The "Calexit" statement was merely dependent upon the possibility of the federal government (and thus country) becoming despotic. Though, overall, the idea was never taken seriously and no one has talked about it since in the state. Furthermore, the loss of California would have been a massive economical blow to the US given that California alone is the 5th largest economy in the world, thus it would have been unacceptable to allow it to leave the Union. Speaking of which, it's odd how Texas was never mentioned since the Texas Republic was also an independent country that became a state, and has also mused about exiting the Union to become independent again. Texas becoming independent is also improbable, but the locals have discussed succession more than once before, and have historically left the Union as part of the formation of the separatist country known as the Confederate States of America. Once again, however, Texas has no inclination to leave the Union. Hawaii and Puerto Rico are also far more notable cases dealing with independence than either of the two states mentioned previously.

@@youprayteas Can't say for always, as we do not know the future. But in right now there, surely, are more Greeks living in Pontus and Smyrna than in the Eastern Thrace. Plus the Cyprus is still not resolved. So, I would agree that right now the idea of independent East Thrace is laughable. There is no cultural difference as people see themselves as Turks and a part of the country and the region itself can't sustain itself up to the current state if it separates.

Honestly it'd fuck up as much things as it'd resolve Yes it would help with the current agricultural revolts, but the Lille-Kortrijk-Tournai metropole would now be split between THREE countries Yes it would help a revival of the Walloon language, but since a lot of Dutch speakers still live in Wallonia (esp. in the west which can't speak Walloon) it would either mean to give administrative documents in THREE languages, or it would mean to suppress Dutch speakers The current "compromis" is pretty good already honestly. And yeah the Bruxelles situation seems impossible to deal with. So while yes, the political and linguistic landscape are DRASTICALLY different between the two, I don't see it breaking anytime soon.

An interesting region for you: I live in Western Austria, in a state called "Vorarlberg", right next to Liechtenstein. Exactly 100 years ago the local population voted about separating from the Austrian-Hungarian Empire, which collapsed during WW1, to join Switzerland. 80% voted yes, but the treaty of Saint-Germain didn't allow Vorarlberg to leave Austria, and also Switzerland didn't want to take the region, which made my state known under the name of "Kanton übrig", which translates to "canton leftover". Now, there aren't any big independence movements any longer, but the region transformed from a farmer's land to a economically stable state, with good industry, so i think we could support ourselves on our own, and i also think a voting could pass, if it was today I hope somebody reads this, sorry if I made English mistakes

Some corrections about Quebec: 1. Quebec wasn’t the only part colonized by France. All of southern Canada on the coast of the St. Lawrence river was colonized by France. Quebec was the outcome of the fights and the subsequent accords. 2. The Quebecois are no longer interested in separating from Canada. That’s virtually impossible to happen anymore, despite them loathing calling Quebec a province (although its nickname is la Belle Province!) 3. The catholic vs. protestant argument is just history. Since la revolution tranquile the Quebecois completely turned against any official form of religion in politics and became entirely secular.
@michaelsims1160
@michaelsims1160 11 месяцев назад
Half of Quebec geographically wasn’t colonized by the French. Northern Quebec around Hudson’s bay was never French. That was Rupert’s Land which belonged to the British crown. As for an independent Quebec most of the independence movement used the threat of independence as a way to blackmail the Federal government into giving them more money and special privileges. In 1995 when Quebec separatists nearly won their referendum a lot of soft separatists realized they didn’t really want to separate especially when Canadians were planning to partition the Province if they did. Quebec as an independent country really isn’t viable. If independent Quebec would suffer a huge decline in living standards without the Federal government’s assistance. Its population and economy is just too small and the Provinces debts too large.

I do know that the South and the North both speak Italian, but only with some different dialects. I think language plays a huge roll in this kind of situations. Flanders speaks Dutch, Wallonia speaks French. As far as I know, the difference between South and North Italy isn't as big as the difference between Flanders and Wallonia. The separation of Belgium is not very likely to happen though (at least not within the next 10 years), so I don't think the the difference in Italy is something we should be concerned about right now.

If CA were to go independent, the US military would completely pull out taking all the weapons and equipment with them. #2: There's a large US military presence in CA now and a large portion of the CA economy is derived from the military bases, personnel, (mostly non CA natives), and defense contractors there. If the CA were to break away and the US pulled out of CA and no longer does business with CA based defense contractors, and more than 85% of personnel returning back to the US and not spending money in CA, that projected "5th largest economy" would be greatly reduced. #3: Also the liberal Democratic leadership which now dominates the political scene is driving CA and their spend, spend, spend policies are driving CA into bankruptcy. Any currency that CA would try to print would be worthless when the massive state debt is factored in. Also no more federal dollars would pouring in to help prop up the debt ridden state like it does now. Also most major corporations and banks based in CA would move out of the state prior to independence to avoid the uncertainty of the new unstable economy. Again driving it's economy down even further if independence were to happen. #4: Currently the eastern part of CA is mostly conservative and the western coastal areas are mostly liberal. If independence were to happen, I believe a civil war would erupt almost immediately with the mostly conservative portions wanting to form their own independent state or rejoin the US as a new state. A civil war and/or a shrinkage in size of the new independent state would greatly reduce it's economy even further since no other countries would want to invest in an unstable gov't embroiled in a civil war.

Independance movement in Brittany might have had some importance at some point in 20th century, but it has mostly disappeared today, only being talked about between britons as a joke. Actually, most britons don't even talk Briton nor Gallo nowadays, as the language is slowly dying. And this is the actual point of tension, it's not about getting autonomy or independance, just about getting the legal recognition of briton and gallo as official languages in Brittany, to promote them better, to better embrace the Briton identity, inside of France. Lot of britons will speak about briton independance after getting drunk (which happens often), but actually only few delusional people truly want it.

I totally disagree with this analysis. There have never been so many officials autonomists and regionalists now than in the entire history of the Breton movement. In addition, the cores in the elections of the pro-Breton lists are rising slowly. The number of Breton speakers has stabilized and Breton identity has largely penetrated the economic sphere. We also remember that last year, the president of the regional council of Brittany asked for the autonomy of Brittany because of the negotiations that there were between the Corsican elected officials and the French government. I think you have a very exterior view of the situation.

Despite there being cultural differences between Alberta and Quebec, I often find is a little surprising that they don't seem to realize that they are natural allies (as provincial governments) in arguing for a more decentralized federation. While they clearly have different visions on some issues, like energy policy (which is honestly guided by their own very different natural resources and decades of investment), they have a lot of common ground in perceiving themselves to be the odd man out and wanting the federal government to stay out of their affairs. Ontario is fervently against decentralization (and Atlantic Canada seems lukewarm to the idea) but after living in Ontario a few decades, it's pretty evident that Ontario thinks of itself as the heart and soul of Canada and is pretty quick to dismiss the complaints of other regions as whining. I've seen it since the last election and honestly, I find it rather troubling. The putdowns of western concerns remind me of the way Quebec's concerns got put down back in the 80s and 90s. As someone who lived through the social turmoil of the two referendums and the two failed constitutional re-negotiations, I've got a pretty good sense of the kind of deeply felt alienation, frustration and resentment that fuels a secessionist movement. If Alberta and Saskatchewan are hitting that kind of boiling point and things feel that out of touch right now, my natural inclination as a born and bred Quebecois is to listen to them the way I've always wanted the rest of Canada to listen to us. Not to be dismissive. Not treating them as spoiled brats or a problem child. Rather, as fellow citizens who feel they have a genuine grievance and require us to listen with an open mind. I can relate to that feeling and it sucks. I'm sure we wouldn't reach a perfect consensus but we can bloody well put a bit of real effort into ensuring we all have a voice in the national dialog.

Supposed flag is totally unrelated which leads me to think it as some fictional or alt-history country. The closest you can get to a seperate Thrace where some people joke about splitting the whole western and southern coast (left leaning provinces) apart from rest.

@@georgianakopoulou6339 only because a little part of thrace belongs to Greece they must put a cross on their possible flag right? İf independent thrace happen. Probably they use green variety of turkish flag. When Ottoman Empire times ottoman use 2 different flag. @goshlike76
@goshlike76 3 года назад
@@yudaosh-ida This flag refers to Rumelian regions of the Ottoman Empire, yes. But I think it's far from that. The flag you said was going to be the flag of Western Thrace if it was going to be independent from Greece. But, if in any case, for the sake of speculation, Eastern Thrace becomes independent, it would include Istanbul as well. Basically it would be an Istanbul state with eastern thrace as hinterland. And trust me it would be more secular than the whole of Turkey, while Kemal was alive. So the crescent-star flag would be avoided and I think that maybe a tricolor flag would emerge to incorporate a more European identity, because otherwise there's no reason for splitting off of Erdogan's Turkey. And by the way, the crescent is connected more to Turkic people, Romans and Persians, rather than Muslims.

Some people in South-Tyrolia also have the wish to reunite the Tyrolian region, which was split after WW1, not as part of Italy or Austria but as their own sovereign part. The likelihood though is rather questionable as both Italy and Austria won't let these parts separate away that easily I think.

I totally disagree with this analysis. There have never been so many elected autonomists and regionalists now than in the entire history of the Breton movement.
