Whew! Yeah... this is great. Sounds so good. Very cool to hear and see you play it. I have a deposit on the "modern" version to come out Fall 2023! It's crazy how much comes out of that. It's very evocative.
This couldn't be in better hands!!! Would love to see it mingling with your ARP 2600 perhaps in a new Synth Garden video? Absolutely beautiful sounds in this, cheers! :)...... Had to come back and edit this comment to say that this whole video was the most lovely Buchla playing I've ever heard. Very amazing work.
its interesting that you bring up the 2600- i refer to the style of playing in this video as “painting” and i actually fine tuned this play style on the 2600 before getting a chance to apply it to the music easel. like splashing paint onto canvas in complementary colors, within the bounds of harmony. i suppose i should do a video of “painting” on the arp 2600 soon!!
Oh my... beautiful playing! Just preordered an Easel (this model, in fact), can't wait to get playing. Do you use the preset manager much? I can imagine it's actually much more of a WYSIWYG kind of instrument.
Amazing performance Nick. I have a question for you. When you want to "hold" a set of notes for the arp I notice u pressing two of the four buttons just above the keyboard. Is this a normalised function or something you need to map. I have a 218 on pre order so im not sure how it functions just yet.
its a new firmware that will likely be on the one you have on preorder. if you it arrives and you find it doesnt have the new firmware, shoot buchla an email.
By the way, you placed preset card inside, don't you plan to use additional 3rd party cards with it? If not then why? Just interested in thoughts of performing artist.
Hey Nick, I asked on the previous video so I'll try again here... it seems these new Easels have a "Hold" option for the arpeggiator that the previous Easels don't have; will that somehow be an upgradable option for my early 2018 Music Easel? Or is it specific to these new Easels only? And how exactly does it function?
Would you share your thoughts on the advantages/disadvantages of that vs the full easel? I am debating between a command or waiting to go full easel. Thank you
Having spent lots of time with the Easel Command, the advantages of having a full Easel are that it is very much its own self contained instrument. While the full Easel integrates well with a larger synth setup, the desktop format of the Easel Command means it can be a great way to add a Buchla voice to a larger setup, for example with other controllers. The full Easel in its suitcase format is a great way to take a Buchla system mobile. They're both great options, with pros and cons each.
I'm not really sure if i should buy this or a retro version? Or should i keep my prophet 6 that i love? I have always wanted a easel, they are soooo expensive though.. i have other poly's and mono synth's too. It is a hard choice..
