@@SamVBikes I shudder to think, it's like the crazy plans to increase the 20mph to all built up areas, it's counter productive. I tried driving at 20mph in my diesel van 😭but it meant I had to use a lower gear, increasing the revs by 500rpm, which was a increase of 50%. The increase in engine cycles means more pollution, plus I'm in the area for longer as I'm driving slower is bound to increase pollution. The politicians don't think things through.
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 2 года назад
The plan for 20mph on the current national restriction A and B roads is mental!! I understand those tiny little back lanes which are barely wide enough for a car, but the others are madness haha. That's precisely it bud, get charged a small fortune to drive your car into a city, yet most of the buses, rubbish collection lorries, taxis etc are all massive diesel engines that go stop to stop, and sit there idling! Make those all electric, with conductive charging points at each stop/taxi rank etc and that would save a huge amount of polution!

@@SamVBikes that would be far better. Also, if there are incentives to ride economical bikes from 400cc to 650cc, as they often give over 60 to 70mpg, that would slash congestion and emissions. Logically, bikes like this are the solution not the problem, if you look at any major city in the east, traffic flows and it's mostly small bikes and scooters

As for the vibrations I had been a little annoyed by them during my 3000km summer trip. The strongest ones sit exactly in the cruising rev range between 3000 and 4500rpm. On some days my hands went numb. Most likely because I wasn't able to get good fuel in Italy, only the 95 rubbish. The SAS responds to higher octane fuel with a smoother engine.

Great video well made thanks and good to see it being done properly . Iam no expert but the plug in or flash things I keep hearing about with 02 sensors deleted etc can’t be right . I’ll be very interested in your mpg difference once you settle down and get used to it . I found a re map on other vehicles made me use more fuel at first because I was enjoying the engine , once I settled down it actually got better mpg .
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 2 года назад
Thank you! The thing I like about these guys is they do it all with the sensors in place, and adjust how the ECU reacts to the sensor readings instead of just getting rid of them all! MPG isn't as bad as I thought it would be, it's 2 or 3 down on previous but I do think, like you say, I'm sitting slightly faster or more prone to those accelerations out of junctions haha

1290SAS, remapped and ran it for 4years, no increase in mpg, unless you use it. All you doing is smoothing out the response and when you remove the narrowband 02 sensors, open the intake, exhaust and remap, then you not burning more fuel, you just making the motor more efficient. After 9yrs on the 1190S and 1290SAS, best mod is an end can, heated ergo seats, touring screen,. crash bars, skid plate, wire wheels and from new, throw the stock brake pads in the bin to stop the front end shudder you will get which many think is warped disk. Some do warp however most common has been shitty pad/rotor combinations KTM has never addressed. Then stop there, if you do dirt work then a top mount SCOTT damper kit with BRP mount.....I did the Rottie intake but that was due to KTM's rubbish 2013-2021 Airbox "evolution", for the latest model they looked to have sorted their intake out.imho
@daneng2335
@daneng2335 6 месяцев назад
@@SamVBikes Good, there are only advantages to keeping the sensors 👍 only with a bad remap that you need to remove sensors to make the bike run well, this is because the fuel mixture is too far from good so the oxygen sensor has to constantly try to correct the fuel, if the fuel mixture is smooth and nice from the start the oxygen sensor can easily make the fine adjustments and the engine runs smooth and optimally

My 18 SAR with a Rottweiler airbox conversion and a dyno-tuned map was 153 at the wheel, so what I'd expect. As an aside, change your clutch slave ASAP. Mine failed causing my clutch to blow apart resulting in a critical motor failure from the debris getting sucked through a running motor.

There is a problem when you can pick up say a rock and toss it into the front sprocket and destroy the clutch slave and engine casing in one go, also a lose chain slaps the casing even with the steel chain guided but then you also destroy the swingarm as the slider wears far quicker and eats through the swingarm. I did wonder if you were getting it mapped 😉 I've been thinking of getting my SAS mapped, like you it's not for more power (though that is always nice), but more for smoothness. Can I ask if you find it better at a slow steady speed, ie 30-40? My bike can feel a bit choppy. Hope you had a good ride out from Hawes, gutted I couldn't make it. L
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 2 года назад
Haha yes! It's waaaay smoother around that speed. The big thing is the power roll on is much better, so there's no hunting above 5mph. I've found that It seems more comfortable slightly higher up the revs. So I might be in 3rd doing 30mph, instead of 4th. Possibly because I'm not used to it having the grunt to pull where it does now, so I guess it's an adjustment period for my riding. It is VERY relaxed sitting at 85 on the motorway (in Germany obviously...) whereas before I'd be just as comfortable at 75 haha. Ride out was great, but I'll do some more in the future!

Ah, this one... 🙂 So, is there a risk that KTM update will wipe the mapping? Can you have the new funky mapping on just one of the modes i.e. Sport, or does the A/F mapping affect all modes?
@SamVBikes

Apparently KTM will be able to see that there has been a map, but they won't be able to wipe it without knowledge they are doing so. But if that happens, BHP can load it back on really quickly as they save everything! Hi @Sam Vincent I just ordered the tune. Can you please tell me what other modifications did you do apart from fueling smoothness/throttle jerkiness ? Did I hear in the video that you disabled the engine braking also ? Is there too much exhaust popping now (I like it once in a while but would hate it to pop on each deceleration) ? Thanks!
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 4 месяца назад
Hey! Great news! The map includes all of that - it's part of the tune. Removing the deceleration restriction is what causes the pops but it's not all the time. Mine does it more if I use low-octane fuel, but it doesn't pop very much when I use higher octane. So if I use 90RON fuel, it pops more, and 99RON it only pops once in a while.

I would like to know how the differences between both cylinders are taken into account with this mod I’m pretty sure that they are handled differently with the stock map (because of heat, etc.) Also I think your fuel economy will suffer in the end (obviously not at stabilised speed). BUT I’m sure it’s worth it. I wish I could do the same here: I have got to look for similar service in France. Cheers
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 2 года назад
Thats a very good question, and one I don't have the answer to! I know some bikes like the Multistrada have rear cylinder deactivation which this doesn't. Fuel economy hasn't been as bad as I first thought but its definitely worth it!!
@trevorbush3656
@trevorbush3656 Год назад
The 1190 and 1290 run different maps for front and rear cylinders for every gear even stock. If you mapping with a single 02 at the end can then you wasting potential tuning. Best is always an 02 in each cylinder and mapping EACH gear. I mapped mine using the Autotune and POD over months of various conditions at sea level to perfection. You notice the improvements when touring 2up and loaded with gear chugging at slow speeds or just not needing to running through the gears to get around the trannie snatch. 6th gear, 2 up from 70km/h with zero trannie snatch. Keep in mind you also need to "remove/set" the 02 stock inputs else the ECU will jump between maps at around 4500rpm. No increase in fuel consumption however it is interesting to note that when you engage Cruise Control, KTM leans out the AF immediately by 1.

It depends massively on the Dyno you're testing on. Some are calibrated regularly, some aren't so can read slightly incorrect numbers. A 9% drive train loss is very good from factory. Below 4% is almost unheard of especially if the bike is stock so you've done very well to get 154! The 2021/22 Super Adventure doesn't have a Race mode. Rally, sport and street all have full power.
@4tech69

Take it to a different dyno and you'll get a different result. Might be worth understanding how these things actually work before making such strong claims.
@foggydutch7412

So why put it on a Dyno if outcome is not reliable? … you end up with a reading that can be 135/145/155 on the same bike …

The Rain mode and Off Road mode have 100bhp, but all the others have 160ps at the crank. The Super Duke R and Super Duke GT have 178bhp but the Super Adventure models have different injectors and a different cam so won't put those figures out as standard even with a remap.

A very interesting video. I took out a KTM 1290 super adventure S yesterday and was very surprised how much vibration I was getting through the handlebars and pegs. The ride felt like the bike was riding on the wheel rims. I had even set the suspension on comfort but was on street mode. So disappointed. I have a five year old KTM 1090 adventure S which has never had any mechanical or electrical issues and is so smooth to ride, and surprisingly a lot taller, which for me is ideal because I am 6ft 4. The guy at the dealership was most surprised at my response. I haven't given up yet as will go again but will check out the tyre pressures next time. Do you have any suggestions about my issues with the bike or what settings I should put in. I value your advice. Kind regards
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Hey! It is for some people, but not for others. I have had a few people say this about the bike but I find it okay. It's definitely more vibey than some bikes, but I find it no more than an S1000XR or similar. I'm surprised you felt it coming from a 1090! The bike is happiest when it's you're engaged with it, not just lazily ridden. It thrives and is happiest when you're riding it harder, or at least using the gears and revs. Up and down the quickshifter, rev it over 5/6k rpm etc. If you leave it in 5th gear and try to just sit in that gear for corners etc, it vibrates and shakes a LOT. My dad rode my bike before and really liked it, then rode it again a few weeks ago and said it was really vibey. I can only assume it's because he was trying to ride it like his new Tiger 1200 which can just be left in 4th and not really 'ridden' if you don't want to. When he rode it previously, he had a Tiger 900 so was used to changing gears more, sitting in a higher gear, higher in the revs etc so he was used to the style of riding. My suggestion, if you'd normally expect to ride a bit of road in 5th, drop down to 4th, and when you come to a corner, use the gears and let it get higher in the revs. On a straight bit of road, it's fine to be in whatever gear, but it's definitely happiest when being pushed in the corners. If you ride it like an oversized Superduke R, it's phenomenal. Then you get onto the motorway, stick it in 6th and its got plenty of torque for overtakes etc. Hope that helps!

Handle bars vibes I have found was the tyres, the KTM is very sensitive to tyre choice and wear. Foot pegs for me was the fueling, running lean they can make your feet numb. Looks ok, but it's kind of a half job, especially on a KTM 1290. He is getting A/F ration from the exhaust, which means he doesn't know what happens on each cylinder. Proper way is to add wide bands on both cylinders and tune each cylinder differently. It's not just for max power, but it's also important for reliability, since it is very common for the rear cylinder to run hotter than the front (no airflow)...
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Can't say for definite as I wasn't too involved with the actual map writing, but they plugged into the ECU/OBD port too, taking readings from those. I think the exhaust sensor was a backup AFR reading to ensure they had all measurements. They were also keen not to just max out the bike and spent hours fine tuning the map to ensure it was smooth and reliable as they know I do high mileage! Like I said, I can't be certain but they were very professional, took care to get it right from what I saw, and the bike has been a dream to ride since. I've done circa 5k miles since and not a single issue
@dimosk7389
@dimosk7389 Год назад
@@SamVBikes yeah, it's obvious they were not going for max power, and rightfully so...these bikes are meant for high milage and long trips. There's no point sacrificing reliability and mid range smoothness for some extra power near the limiter. Having said that, The ECU readings are limited by the accuracy of the OEM O2 sensors, which are most definitely narrow band. that's why tuners usually install their own wide band sensors, which (as the name suggests) have a wider band of measuring, and offer much better accuracy directly to the tuner's PC.

@SamVBikes

They change the way the ECU responds to the sensors. So when the sensor reports a certain AFR, it will respond with the new setting instead of the standard. I believe that was what they said, but I'm not an expert. The bike has done around 500 miles since the remap and it definitely hasn't gone back to the old mapping
