Why do I feel like I’m stealing a lesson here! Awesome content Matt and Larry, you balance these videos with just the correct amount of comments and delivery. Off to play to today in AZ and my warm up will incorporate this feel.
Larry is a brilliant teacher. Matt is the master student. Epic combo. Extremely high golf IQ from both. Keep these coming. So happy you migrated away to blaze your own trail, Matt. Keep these coming!! 💪👍🙏💯🙌☝️🔥🔥✊
Tried this today with very good results. First time in a long time was able to swing hard with very straight ball flight and better control. No drop off and possible increase in distance. Shots into the greens from inside 160m seemed to have more spin so stopped after great carry. Was easy to get through the ball with a short back swing and great balance at the finish. Great Vid guys.
This series is awesome. I've always been stuck mid 90s because my lower body is too passive - this gives me hope even as I approach 60. The slowmo even looks like your lower body starting the downswing fractionally before your arms finish the backswing, which should help unleash the stored power in sequence (Danny Maude recently did a similar lesson). I'm working on rotational power with my PT for non-golf reasons, but the med ball drill will fit well with what I'm doing already 👍🙏
Exactly what I needed and was working on!!!! Brilliant content and I noticed you’re using the same red-faced driver as me! Working on the same swing mechanics, using the same driver…. Identical club head speed should just be around the corner!! 🤞 😆
Been working on this same thing myself Matt. One thing I've realized is that I have to feel like I'm OVER turning on the backswing. If I don't, I tend to pull/hook everything. If I do turn past 90 degrees, it's easier for me to feel my arms are passive and almost locked in front of my chest, and rotate hard with my body.
Wow I could never understand how to create power or speed from the legs and this explains it perfectly! Just feel as if you're throwing a medicine ball forward using your legs!! I'm quite blown away. I think I'm forced to sign up for Larry's online program now. Incredible work you two, thanks!
Great video! Great content Matt and LC! Tried this drill with a pillow in my condo and I can really feel the legs and hips activating like they do when I'm swinging well. Definitely can add 10 mph to the driver with better legs and rotation.
Thanks, Larry and Matt - I’ve applied this plus the previous drills regarding sequencing, it ook a few sessions to stop my arms driving the swing, but following the med ball drill my club speed rose by at least 15mph!! I was so amazed that I need to re-check, but I am blown away by the gains. I was blown away!
Unbelievable video Matt!!! So glad you have your own channel, you were the heart and soul of the last assignment you were on, so glad you are going to be making videos, nobody can do it as well as you, I stopped watching golf videos on RU-vid when you left the other channel. Thanks for all you do for the sport we love!
Hello Matt I watched TXG quite a bit. Really enjoying your your training sessions/drills that can help all level of players (me a beginner), so thank you. Please, continue create more content like this in different methodologies and training drills for the golf swing. Your channel is so far one the top ones on my list!
Thank you for posting. These videos have helped me get through some mental health challenges I've faced with the change to work from home the past few years.
I may well be going deep in the weeds here, but an observation. When you were working with Tyler and the 3D fellow, they noted your arms going too far and advised hands over shoulder and trail arm lined up with trail side. You going deep caused you to start with your arms. My thought then was that Larry in the old videos always urged you to get deep. Then in the new series, in the arm drift video Larry seemed to be supporting the Orlando observations. Now my point. In the right handed swing video, It seemed that once again he was encouraging you to get your hand as deep as possible and the trail arm was no longer aligned with the trail side. No doubt I am missing something and making too much of this. I love watching you hit the ball. So glad you have started your own channel.
Larry sure knows the golf swing. I like how he explains everything . Going out to purchase a 8 lb ball to help this old guy of 74 years to in gauge the larger muscles.
Love this. All stuff I want to work on. Love how easily Larry explains things and how great you are at physically applying things. And your questions and communication is a perfect blend from a standpoint of someone with knowledge but also inquisitive.
Great vid Guys👍👍 I was watching a post of Jack Nicklaus's golf swing through the decades this morning and his leg work/lower body thrust was pretty awesome. I find it amazing that Coaches have only been focusing on the lower body in recent years, in the past, everyone was trying to mirror swing positions without understanding what was really generating the POWER.
It is a great connection drill-- Jimmy Ballard uses the analogy of throwing a medicine ball, although he doesn't get into specific weight or squatting- he says stuff about being taller and being easier to hit down on the ball.
Great drill. Will try and mess about with some of those feels. Gonna try and get my flexibility back and focus on a good lower body turn while trying to introduce speed. Good things to keep in mind.
This is fantastic drill, do them all the time in the gym. Another great one is on the cable machine, install a tricep rope at backswing height and take your grip, put say 20-30kg and just work on rotating the lower body keeping your hands in a fixed position.
looking forward to the side by side slow mo of your first "drifting" swing from the first video and weeks from now the new swing. differences and numbers! great job keep up the good work!
Looks Great Matt. Best swings I've seen you make yet!!! Small steps make big steps. Way to go! 😊 Now everyone going to get an eight pound ball!!! lol Can't wait to try these drills!!! Love the content so far Matt. I'll be here along for the journey! ⛳ Thanks Matt and Larry too! JB .
I have watched this video at least 15 times. It dawned on me that I need to delay the arms to get trail hip moving then the body rotated before the arms fire through.
Matty Dirty Dog. I know this may not be the right forum, but I know you've had a share of mental health issues and I wanted to share with you a tool I have used to combat my own depression when it's at its worst. Ice cold shower. Ive tried a lot of things for depression: self care, medicine, treatment, sauna, working out, Vitamin D, weed gummeis, better diet, etc. And theyre all great and I recommend all of them at a certain time or place. But if you have a really bad day and are in a really bad spot, an ice cold shower, particularly this time of year (or ice bath), is a GREAT tool to have. It just is so uncomfortable that it's like cheap, safe electroshock. It just takes you out of your head. Obviously it's incredibly uncomfortable, but I think it's among the safest, cheapest "home remedies" available. If you haven't tried this, maybe try it. God Bless you brother and keep fighting the good fight.
I also cross train by improving my throw by increasing my use of ground force. Seeing if I can throw a ball further is a good way of testing if I'm doing it properly.
Id love to see more work out related content. Living in an area where the courses are closed 5 months of the year do to cold weather, id love to know what kind of gym work i could do in the off season to get me ready.
I always felt like my back swing was too shallow, but I can generate power without the need. If I try going too far back, I have a hard time hitting the middle of the face. This drill could be a great recipe for someone with my swing style to gain more speed. Time to look for a medicine ball on Kijiji..
Great drill. I have to say I was nervous the whole video worrying about that $15k launch monitor as the 8 pound ball was being swung around! I know you guys know what you’re doing but that is all I could see the first time I watched it… heh.
Great video guys! I had to watch twice to absorb all the material because Larry’s pants kept pulling focus. Perhaps tone things down next time with a lime green or cobalt blue? Stay lefty my friends 👍
I didn’t hear you guys say how much the ball weighed, I have a 10 pound medicine ball will that work? Or should I get a bigger one? I absolutely am so excited about this drill because I over swing like crazy.
Very cool. What are Larry’s thoughts on lead foot push vs trail foot? Long drive guys actually try to push lead foot as a counter force to the club and fall back generating a ton of speed.
Great content Matt & Larry. I'm wondering if this drill can be done holding the handle of an 8lb kettle bell, or is there something about the hand separation that is important as well ? Thanks again. Keep up the great work !
Not that I know a thing, but when you shortened up your medball "swing", you didn't laterally shift as much so your weight can stay on the inside of your left instep. A little sway to move CG is ok but when it goes outside your left foot you lose stability to squat and turn immediately. Like trying to shoot a puck when the puck is too far behind you, inefficient power generation
