More speed - Drills to start using your shoulders…

Here are three drills that will help you figure out how to use your shoulders faster than you rotate them. This is really important for speed in your golf swing.
Let me help you get an effortless golfswing with speed and accuracy. I call it the circle of speed. A good release will help you to a better impact and longer drives and irons without slice and hook. How to swing a golf club need to be adjusted to your skill level and experience.
Long and straight is the goal for everyone but it takes time. Try to focus on one thing not everything when you practise. Impact, face control and swingpath will always be the most important part to drill. We focus too much on rotation but no good golf shot will be executed just by rotating.
I’m naturally right handed but all my tips works for both left handed and right handed golfers.
We also need to understand that many myths in golf are misleading. Everything that you find on the internet isn’t true. Ben Hogan, Sam Snead are two of legends that are often misunderstood.
We shall not keep our head still, only start with the hips, look only at the ball or keep the left or right arm straight.
If you use callaway, ping, titleist or taylor made clubs doesn’t matter you can learn to hit good golf shots. Your loft or your shaft on the club will not change but you can always get better.
Find what inspires you. Golf basics are the same for everyone. The pga tour, longdrivers or other good golfers can all help you find better golf shots. Watch what they do instead of listed to what they say. Listen mostly to your body and figure out what you need to do to produce the same results as the pros on TV. Be careful when you watch a golf swing in slow motion. The result isn't always what the golfer is trying to do. Feel and real are seldom the same.
Mike Malaska, Mike Austin, Mike Dunaway, Pete Cowen and Steve Pratt are some of my favorite golf instructors online. Find the tips that make your golf better. Decide what you want to hit. I teach a draw but many like a fade and nobody likes a hook or slice.
Your hips or your lag is not the key to golf. Your hands will decide the shot and you can do like Tiger Woods and trust your hands. Teach your hands to hit different shots. Hit big hooks and slices to understand what happens. Only straight is not gonna teach you anything.
Bryson Dechambeu and Kyle Birkshire can inspire you to hit it longer. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson can give you inspiration and motivation to test new things and new golf shots. Linn Grant, Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg can show you the future of golf.
The Masters, Players Championship, The Players, The Open and US Open can make you love golf even more. See the best in the world solve all the problems we all need to master any golf course. Golf is a craft and you need fantasy, feel and skills to master it.

I think one of the hardest parts of learning to swing the arms fast, ...growing up, we seldom used our arms to swing fast to do anything ( other than a sport ). It's just not something we ever learned to do for everyday life. We learned to use our legs fast to run, or kick, but never swing our arms fast. My golf instructor is always telling me to swing faster.. when I ask him to explain exactly how to do it...he just saids, just do it. That is why your videos are so wonderful...your teaching us how to do it.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad

You are so correct. Our history can really tell use how far away from "fast arms" we are. It's also a time-consuming training to make them faster but we can all get better and that's all we have to think about. I hope you will keep going because I will. 💪

I'm 78 and my typical wedge carries about 105-108 yards. I have watched 12 of your videos, some more than 3 times just to assimilate your bullet points. Yesterday at the range, I hit my wedge exclusively with most balls carrying 112-115. Toward the end, I hit several that carried 135, the longest one 143. Whew. 143 is my usual 6-iron carry. In addition, I am speed training, as you suggest. I'd bought a speed trainer stick a couple years but never really took to it because I didn't have a followup program. Now, with your generous videos, I can build a better structure for my swing and work primarily on speed. My sincerest thanks, deeply appreciated. One question: How much weight do you normally keep on your trail foot throughout your swing with a wedge and a driver?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 3 месяца назад
Great job my friend. Regarding weight transfer I don't keep any weight back but the transfer happens a lot later with a driver than any other club. The driver is a different animal and have very little in common with other clubs.

You explain is SO well, God gave you the gift of overcoming complexity with simplicity. One question: In the downswing, when do the wrists start to break, the right arm starts turning over the left? And should one practice the end of the swing with he right forearm turning completely over the left----or focus on keeping the toe up at the finish? Thanks you again; We are all blessed to find you and your teachings.

Unbelievable! Been playing for 35 years. I’ve got so many swings it’s ridiculous. In my prime ( mid 50’s) I was playing to a 10. Now at 77, I’ve been so frustrated that I’ve thought about giving up the game. Scoring in 90’s. I watched this guy for the first time last night. Reduced all the BS going thru my mind and simply took the club back and swung it keeping my arms extended. Used the same swing with every club from driver, hybrids long and short irons. Only had time for 9 holes with my buddies today and shot a smooth 39. It was effortless. I practiced the swing drill for about 5 minutes. I’m a believer! I can’t wait to play again. 🙏 Thank You Marcus.

Hi Marcus As always a super video ! Just to be clear: You want the hands/arms to go in-to-out, but the shoulders to rotate/go towards the target and around. Which means that you have the hands/arm going in one direction, and the shoulders in another, getting separation, instead of letting the hands/arm follows the shoulders

You guys should watch that video of Kyle Birkshire instructing Michael Block to gain club head speed. They try everything eccept moving his arm faster. And the guy struggled to get past 112mph club speed. It was obvious that his arm/hand speed was the issue.

Thank you, your videos have helped me learn how and why to swing inside/out. Frequently I hit the heel of the club with driver or more often miss the center of the face. I know where i’m hitting it but can’t seem to self-correct. Any thoughts on “how to make contact with the center of the driver face, consistently”?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 8 месяцев назад
This could be a good video and I see two good drills to do to fix it. 1. Learn to deliberately hit more toe, more heel and center. The club face is big enough to move the impact around until we can make it into what we want. 2. Find an old driver with a small head from the nineties. I practice regularly with a 25 year old titleist to fool my brain to think my driver is huge.

Great content again, I totally agree with the other comments too. The ball drill or the circle of speed are anti-clockwise movements therefore, I may possibly have a “stupid” question?! 😱 Are you swinging your golf club anti-clockwise, I mean hands, arms, golf club in line with the circle of speed? So far I’m “pulling” back with my trail hand and then I’m pushing towards the ball with my trail hand, but perhaps I should start with an anti-clockwise move? Your clarification here would be greatly appreciated. And finally more of your great content please 🙏 😊
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad

I'm still fighting to come back after cancer treatment but it's going in the right direction. Speed is a slow process. In the start you will probably see a good increase of speed but it's if you haven't done the practice before. I'm happy with an increase of a few percent per month if I practice speed 3 times per week. It's like going to the gym. We can all get stronger but it takes time.

Hi Marcus, if you right handed, how tight do you keep your trail hand(left hand) to avoid my slice? Secondly, do you need flexibility in your legs?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 8 месяцев назад
Hi. A slice is bad timing and a late release of the club not a grip problem. The trail hand is pushing and I don't need to hold it tight. We need to release by moving the hand fast and the slice will be gone. Holding it too tight could slow it down. Your legs needs to bend and extend when you hit your driver to maximize the upward strike on the ball. Going deep in your down swing should take care of this and we should not force it.

@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
