We can use slow force or effortlessly gain speed by using our gearbox. Here is how to start hitting effortless and long.
Let me help you get a effortless golfswing with speed and accuracy. A good release will help you to a better impact and longer drives and irons without slice and hook.
Long and straight is every ones goal but it takes time. Try to focus on one thing not everything when you practise. Impact, face control and swingpath will always be the most important part to drill. We focus too much on rotation but no good golf shot will be executed just by rotating.
I’m naturally right handed but all my tips works for both left handed and right handed golfers.
We also need to understand that many myths in golf are misleading. We shall not keep our head still, only start with the hips, look only at the ball or keep the left or right arm straight.
If you use callaway, ping, titleist or taylor made clubs doesn’t matter you can learn to hit good golf shots. Your loft or your shaft on the club will not change but you can get better.
Find what inspires you. The pga tour, longdrivers or other good golfers can all help you find better golf shots. Watch what they do instead of listed to what they say. Listen mostly to your body and figure out what you need to do to produce the same results as the pros on TV.
Mike Malaska, Mike Austin, Mike Dunaway and Steve Pratt are some of my favorite golf instructors online. Find the tips that make your golf better. Decide what you want to hit. I teach a draw but many like a fade and nobody likes a hook or slice.
Your hips or your lag is not the key to golf. Your hands will decide the shot and you can do like Tiger Woods and trust your hands. Teach your hands to hit different shots. Hit big hooks and slices to understand what happens. Only straight is not gonna teach you anything.
Bryson Dechambeu and Kyle Birkshire can inspire you to hit it longer. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson can give you inspiration and motivation to test new things and new golf shots. Linn Grant, Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg can show you the future of golf.
The Masters, Players Championship, The Players, The Open and US Open can make you love golf even more. See the best in the world solve all the problems we all need to master any golf course. Golf is a craft and you need fantasy, feel and skills to master it.

Marcus it’s very nice of you to respond to the doubters (“he’s arms only”). I lost 2 years trying the body swing methods and played the worst golf of my life while wrecking my lower back. I returned to feeling the swing with my arms/hands while focusing on the target and playing much better. I used your circle of speed analogy and early release to hit absolute bombs yesterday. Please keep up your teachings. Thanks!

As a lefty with a high handicap who has had too much advice, your channel has been a breath of fresh air. I stumbled across your channel two weeks ago, and everything just made sense, so I went straight to the driving range and just hit a few balls. Some sliced, quite a few hooked but a lot more went straight with more distance. After a couple more weeks today, I hit a few draws and a lot of straight balls, but it felt pure and for the first time in a long while I was totally relaxed about my golf swing. It's going to take a lot of practice but at least I can see a way forward now.

Hey Marcus… greetings from Utah my man. So I’m 54 years old and pretty athletic still.Im a basketball player but I’ve been golfing now for 3 years and I’ve had lessons once, watched a ton of you tube videos and for some reason I could not hit a draw with any club to save my life brotha! I don’t usually comment on videos but I had to tel you thank you brotha! For some reason I stumbled on to you when I wasn’t even looking for golf videos anymore and just excepted my fading over the top fate . Let me tell you, you teach in a way like no one I’ve ever heard or seen before. I told myself that I was gonna give you a shot, after just committing to what you say for a month, I’m hitting draws for the first time ever bro and my ball striking plus distance has improved a hundred fold.. I can’t believe it sometimes lol… the lead arm slow and trail arm fast video changed it all for me and just learning to let the trail arm dominate and push instead of lead arm pulling was an absolute game changer. I know it’s just a game but you’ve changed my love for golf to another level… sorry for the long comment but thank you again brotha and keep doing what you’re doing! God bless. Hands down you’re the best teacher on You tube! Believe me I’ve watched them all😂

I think the number one reason people that are new to golf quit so quickly. Is due to lessons that are to complicated and don't work. You simplify things so much that it makes it easier for people to understand. I am 55 years old and never had a lesson but typically shoot in the low 80s on a good day and high 80s on a bad day. Until I started watching you Marcus I never really fully understood the swing, now I do, thanks.

The instructors teaching body swing want you to NEED to come to them in Las Vegas or Florida or California and pay them to add arms and hands to aquire speed. They do not share comprehensive helpful information. Thanks for your honest direct help Marcus especially regarding the role of hands/release Friends if you are struggling with lack of speed.....learn to release and do it EARLIER Tinker with it until you have it in exactly the right spot in overdrive. Then you can actually hit it anywhere you want as Marcus does It us not easy, but when you get it you will beat your friends and never suck again I wish I had this information 2 decades earlier

Found your channel recently and went yesterday on driving range. Finally, after 25 years of hit and miss shots , I was able to hit shot after shot with proper compression, "pure". Even toe shots were going decently with immediate feedback of slight mishit. You were 100 percent right when you said that slow motions or positions are misleading and your explanations of golf swing needed for a draw are simple and excellent. I watched Mike Malaska, Milo Lines and Henry, Danny Maude, Pete Cowen and others so maybe I was getting close but your explanations gave me little missing pieces which help me put it together. What Marcus shares does work. You have to understand that the brain will do what we perceive and we need to often just change our mental approach. The body will figure it out based on what the goal of the brain is. I started watching Marcus' videos about 3 weeks ago and I now hit draws with all clubs. My drives are farther than they have ever been, and I am reaching greens in regulation. It isn't perfect, but a work in progress. Now I have a mental approach to hitting a golf ball and it has freed me up! Thanks Marcus!

Have lost distance the last couple years not playing much since our first, now second, child were born. I played a rotation with a little wrist release, I dropped probably 50 yards on driver 20-30 on irons, tried this out today, only getting arm feel with nominal rotation and medium wrist. Instantly gained 25-30 on driver and 15-20 on irons. With a couple trips to the range a week I am confident I will be getting more distance than ever. Absolutely the easiest way to develop speed. Tried your cupped wrist idea. I'm 64 and have a hard time hitting the ball more than 235 off the tee. When I was younger, the hit the ball over 300 all the time but I've had back surgery this year and can't hit the ball out of my shadow any more. I hit a few half buckets this week and played on Sunday. My first par 5, the drive was 302. Then I hit a 5 iron to the green from 205. My 3 woods were 250ish. The drives were all over 270!! This is something real and fundamental. Thanks- I always knew I needed more hand action but never could figure out how. Your video explained it wonderfully. I get it now!

I’ve enjoyed your videos and I’ve changed my swing. I was releasing too late and trying to compensate with more rotation. This was a result of being coached to ignore my natural idea of how to connect with the ball and simply send it. Most instructors I’ve dealt with are not aware of how to really teach and they bypass an actual evaluation of the individuality or uniqueness each golfer has in their approach in favor of a one size fits all. Thank you for taking the time to explain the one thing that I’ve been missing.

After 'trying' to play golf for 3 years, with a lot of body mechanics and checkpoints in my head, i went play a round of golf today, tried to apply your basic teachings, like trail hand passes lead hand=release time , pushing the club instead of pulling, circle of speed. In the first 2 holes(Par4) I couldn't feel that i was pushing the club, on the third hole(par4) i went baseball grip for the 1st time ever (always used interlocked grip), that was when i really started to feel that i was pushing the club with my trail hand, and i can tell you, i will not going back to interlock grip ever again. Don't ask me how i decided to try baseball grip, it was kind of instinct i guess. It feels my wrists are free now. Even a friend of mine who doesn't have issue with slice tried the baseball grip and he was adding 30 yards to his shots, and ask me for your channel, which i already share with him. Loads of good shots today, had few pulls, that i was not even angry at them as my slice gone. I know that i have loads of work to do in my game, as i have many bad habits from trying to fix the slice before, but i am going to do that on the driving range. For the people who say your teachings are not working, or is bad information, just ignored them please, they are not ready to be enlightened 💡 Thanks a lot for all the content you share in your channel, for me it's like gold 🙏

It's not a piece of cake to adapt everything but as I can feel a slow development towards the in-out-swing I will continue until it's the natural swing for me. To my excuse the limitation is my range ball account as I'm not able to have a studio of my own and can't afford 1000 range balls a week ;). Anyhow, during my personal exercise of those moments I found my 'gears' a bit better after a while watching all the swings you perform in the clips. There´s, I've noticed, a short moment just as your downswing starts an initial 'load and ignition' the get the power down for arms, hands and moderate rotation. Just as you take a small breath before unloading all and when I introduced this in my practice I got more speed as well. The initial 'let's hit it now' thought before get things going and the more you've practiced to get the path and ball hit good enough the lesser I tend to think of those as seperate moments and instead ONE swing and at the top think 'NOW I start the power engine to get all power out and hit that little fellow so it hurts. Add this as it made something in my thinking process and it might be so natural to you and others to think like that. But there might be others like me that didn't really released the full power just before the downswing start. Really enjoying to develop in the way all your clips guide me to. Started gold at 50 and it might be that now, at 68, I really understand what my swing actually is and perform :)

Another excellent video, Marcus. I quite agree that body, arms and hands all play a role. But the problem I’ve had in the past is the varied advice on what “initiates” the downswing - arms/hands or body. Many say it should be the lower body. But I started doing much better when picked my hands as being the trigger which initiates the downswing. I then let my body jump in to automatically play its role in supplying the power. I think this is in keeping with your messages. Thanks.

@1DCCX

The hands determine what the body does. Even in body oriented swings. People have mistaken cause and effect. They see the hips go first or the kinematic sequence, but what happens in an electromyograph is the stimulus is to move the hands to strike a blow with the implement but the core lights up first as a non conscious response. They confuse a kinematic sequence with the kinetic sequence. The stimulus to move the hands will fire a range of muscles. The muscles of the lower core and back that stabilise go first. Same as if you turn to face and high five someone. That’s what visually and on devices shows up first but they aren’t driven first, the driver is the hand moving. The first thing we see moving on a car pulling away is the wheel but the first thing to move is the engine and the we don’t see the suspension accepting the stress and loading. It’s really the unit of the hands as the brain perceives them in in relation to the balance sensed through your ears and Golgi receptors, in three dimensional space. But basically move your hand and your body responds. You can be very fine with hands. You can’t make decent contact pivot only. If you REALLY focus on a pivot driven chip shot you will feel the hands get involved. They have to. Some pros who advocate a body release talk nonsense about the centripetal and centrifugal force because their pivot driven swing ideas rely on the fallacy that some magical forces exist which will take care of your golf swing. Then they confuse action/reaction as causative. Then they say it is acting on the same object. Which if the pseudo force centrifugal did react to centripetal equally and in opposition you would have a resultant force of zero and zero rotation. Why the science mini lecture? Because they are talking utter bollocks. BS. Nonsense. Once you realise that the clubhead has tangential force and centripetal, and that these pros are trying to sound clever, but actually don’t understand and don’t realise how stupid they sound, it frees you up to acknowledge the truth: All forces applied to the club are generated by muscular contractions to support the movement of the hands as caused by your idea of how to swing and use the tool. And it frees you up to not chase something that doesn’t exist. Sure you can work on your pivot and gross muscles motor pattern if you like, but return and control the actions of the body back to the unit of the hands.

@@1DCCX Excellent explanation. Thanks for this detail. I think what also confuses everyone is referencing the infamous Ben Hogan video where he explains what starts the downswing - the hips as he states. Contrast that with Mike Bender who says the hands initiate the downswing.

@@jasonbourne488 He was genuinely trying to help viewers of his match with Sam Snead. He said beginners rotate their shoulders and as a result come outside of ball instead of hitting the back of it. What he shows is a big lateral shift of the hips and as he says, the hands and arms follow. It was a demonstration of the club coming from inside out; and of course you have to 100% feel the hips moving in that fashion if you haven’t done it before. ‘Then you release at the bottom’ - ie turn and swing it ‘out’. But the same applies, he wasn’t leaving the hands and arms ‘up’ he was activating them, and to do so, the stimulus has to be from the top, you cannot wait and it be ‘hips, then arms’. Two things move the lead shoulder forward - the hips and the lead knee and the independent movement of the hands unit/left arm. It looks like trail deltoid action, reconnecting the right humerus to the body. ‘Harvey Penick called it the Magic Move’ and described it as one move, not two. Fact is, like in the Coleman beach video, he didn’t axis tilt early from the top, his transition had a flow and elasticity and nonconscious firing of his motor map. But if you are a beginner spinning out you are going to have to seriously feel the hips getting involved and the arms following to swing the club from the inside. And he was right - 99.99% of players swing the club where the clubshaft swings flat back to upright down, and cut across it, defending a pulled hook and hitting chronic push slices. Their pulled hooks they think are push draws. Whereas good players swing upright back and flatter down. The golf swing is a coordinated, cohesive all body effort to swing the unit of the hands. Which is not the same as being ‘flippy’ and ‘handsy’. Some people cannot mentally or choose not to accept that moving the hands or a hand, is not the same as flipping the clubhead.

Great video! Marcus, I used your swing yesterday and shot a 79 with a triple bogey. Had the ball way back in my stance and that made swinging from the inside so much easer. That's the first time back in the 70's in over 2 years for me and the first time I used the same swing throughout an entire round. After watching this video, I think I'm only using the first two gears. It feels like there's no time to use the wrists. Am I extending my arm (2nd gear) too fast or maybe too late? Thank you for your instruction. You have revived my golf!

I have however one problem and that is I do not know where to begin to transform my game to your method. What comes first? I am 79 and want to try something new while I can. Any tips you could give as to thefollow order would help immensely. Thank you

Also i can hit beautiful draw shots off my mat but not off the ground. Im hitting the ground way to early. I dont understand what the difference could be. On the mat i hit ball first( i use chalk to see) any ball position on ground i ether hit ground first or the ball goes straight but 20 yards right off target. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Your the only golf channel i watch now. 😁

That's hard to do without knowing your thoughts. In a lesson I would make a mark low on the face of the club with open and tell you to find a lower part of the face. The sweat spot is probably on the third grow on the club.

I found your guidance videos from golf test dummy videos .I’ve been doing Jim veneteos swing for couple years. I have had success but feels unnatural to left handed for me. I struggle with my right arm dominance wanting to take over getting to steep. Watching you I thought maybe be right arm dominant and that just might allow me to stay on the inside by understanding the path easier by allowing my dominant arm to give me speed and control. In video you say your right handed but your faster left handed. Are you ambidextrous? I can’t understand how I could be faster with my least dominant hand. How can the least dominant arm be faster than the powerful arm? Is that a feeling from less tension? Excited to get to the range. Thanks

Hi. I am very right handed and have been tested by two universities in Sweden. I am stronger from the right but I am faster from the left. To get speed in golf we need to control the speed in both hands. We need the trail hand to be a lot faster than the lead hand to get what we want. Golf is not all about strength, it's mostly about speed with a very light object. Playing ping pong or tennis my back hand is faster and therefore more powerful. Same in baseball. 👍 Watch this about speed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kLi1x-8chHQ.htmlsi=IzquHGs43vYxauph Drills: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-D-Qn4XaGf2c.htmlsi=oMhwbT0FS7b2dpOI

Hi Marcus. After watching some of your key videos over and over, I finally have a follow through that looks like yours. So i guess my clubpath/direction of energy is getting close. At the top i just think of extensing my trail elbow in the direction that will make the club trace the path i want. And then basically controlly where i want the “scoop” to happen (for me: after the ball and downward from wedge to 8i, mostly at the ball and more along the ground from 7i, and a foot before the ball with driver). Still need to be careful and make the scoop be a real scoop and not a rolling of the wrists! Getting decent results. I get 5-10 more yards on irons but with a much higher ball flight! as some other people requested, could you also do a video where you hit long irons (4 or 5i)? Thanks for all the great content. Is scooping part of your swing thoughts for all your swings?

I'm teeing the ball way up high. I'm hanging back on my right side. I'm trying to release the club early. I'm trying to make the low point 2 ft behind the ball... where I release. I'm trying to make my right hand move faster than my left as I move through the ball. After doing all that I'm hitting it 260 instead of 225!.. and not as high because I don't have 6,000 backspin anymore

Dear Marcus, is it possible to make a video focusing on isolating the trail arm and hand mechanism? i ve been working on the pushing trail side motion and it seems i cant hit it to bell buckle direction; it seems to always hit toward the target and yet chunking 85% of shots. i am at my wit's end. I am hopeful that you can make one to make the trail arm a smart one as well. Thank YOU.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
That might happen. Regarding your issues we need to change the goal of the motion. Start with your chunking. Get that landing spot with the club moved forward, extend your trail arm to a point further forward. Been watching lots of your videos and been using trackman and my ball speed and distances has increased significantly. This is solely by having the thought of the right hand moving faster than the left. Obviously it will take a lot of practice to get this right... however i have lost accuracy and i am pulling a lot more shots. Any advice on why this might be the case? Does it sound like i am releasing too early with the hooky shots? Can i ask what you feel with the right palm at impact and just after? Is it facing the target?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
Nice to hear about your progress. A straight pull is a swing path problem. Feel that you exaggerate the out part through the ball. It will keep you club face slightly open and will make the club go more up after impact instead of around you like a hook does. My feeling is open, never closed. 👍

@@beniteztheconman I struggle with that from time to time too. And Ive noticed it to be more of a problem on the course if I get nervous, or doubting myself after a few bad shots, feeling performance anxiety or whatever. And the answer is always that Im not allowing my self to exaggerate the out feeling just like Marcus says. It really is a mind game and hard to trust to be right when in doubt. If you're determined in your swing you can go as hard as you like out and up and it still wont go 45 degrees out as you might feel.

I have a question Marcus, some teachers show the split hand drill, is the feeling of your trail hand overtaking the lead hand, whereby one hand slows and one hand speeds up the feeling i should have been getting with the split hand drill, if you get my gist. because i never realised that was supposed to be the aim of the drill in the first place.

With the slow lead hand, does it feel like your putting the breaks on it at impact? Or pressure backward a little to slow it down? Like when you bend the shaft against the mat?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
I only feel that when I do it really slow. In somewhat normal speed I only feel that the trail hand passes the lead hand. It's the same motion but standing still builds tension in places that are in motion during the swing so it feels different.

Great explanation, 1 thing that is still bugging me: the moment I use the hands (by scooping, after the impact with downwards swing with irons and letting go of all the gears), everything stops (body, arms). It is also logical, just as in throwing: the moment the hands have done their duty in the kinetic chain the body, arms stop. Thats causing my swing to stop halfway, instead of arms up and hands behind the back in the end-phase as I see you clearly doing (and other pro's :))? Having used my hands and then still using my arms to go up in the endphase is just impossible. Or are the arms going up by momentum of the club? or ...? Can I also take a Zoom lesson? to talk things through? Have a nice day, greetz

Hi Vincent. The push of the trail hand is not finished at impact. Keep going past impact and there will be no stop. Push all the way until you get your trail hand over your lead shoulder.

Transitioning from an automatic to a standard is a struggle for many. Take time to learn and you will enjoy the results. I do think that hitting 165 yards with a PW is speeding and not what that club was designed for, but fun anyway. @@GolfwithMarcusEdblad A funny comment but made me thinking. Relatively speaking I'm hitting my shorter irons way longer than med longer irons, that by no means is short. Just relatively shorter. I find myself having it much easier really throwing the club under up and out when standing closer to the ball with shorter clubs. When the shaft gets longer, you have to stand further away and the swing circle gets less upright (flat), right? And if the swing circle is flat(ter), thinking it as a hoolahoop (rockring) on a tilt, a under out and up throw/push is in more conflict with a more tilted, flatter swing circle and therefore I easily chicken out with pully motion with the lead arm saying, "hey where not going that way". Not sure you understand what I mean, and maybe I'm actually standing to far from the ball with longer irons making the swing automatically too flat. Cheers

@@jonnyfredriksson447 I understand. The longer the club the harder it gets to keep the up picture in your mind but a longer club needs that to. I wonder if the people who criticize can hit a 350-yard drive with their theory of their critics as you can do time and time again easily. If they don't get value from your teaching just move on because there's the reason why you can hit it 350 yards with a driver and they can't and it's because they don't have a clue what they are doing.
