Drills to get one fast hand and one slow hand - Right handed…

I probably have fifty drills to train the release but here are five that we can use at home and on the range.
Let me help you get an effortless golfswing with speed and accuracy. A good release will help you to a better impact and longer drives and irons without slice and hook
Long and straight is every ones goal but it takes time. Try to focus on one thing not everything when you practise. Impact, face control and swingpath will always be the most important part to drill. We focus too much on rotation but no good golf shot will be executed just by rotating.
I’m naturally right handed but all my tips works for both left handed and right handed golfers.
We also need to understand that many myths in golf are misleading. We shall not keep our head still, only start with the hips, look only at the ball or keep the left or right arm straight.
If you use callaway, ping, titleist or taylor made clubs doesn’t matter you can learn to hit good golf shots. Your loft or your shaft on the club will not change but you can get better.
Find what inspires you. The pga tour, longdrivers or other good golfers can all help you find better golf shots. Watch what they do instead of listed to what they say. Listen mostly to your body and figure out what you need to do to produce the same results as the pros on TV.
Mike Malaska, Mike Austin, Mike Dunaway and Steve Pratt are some of my favorite golf instructors online. Find the tips that make your golf better. Decide what you want to hit. I teach a draw but many like a fade and nobody likes a hook or slice.
Your hips or your lag is not the key to golf. Your hands will decide the shot and you can do like Tiger Woods and trust your hands. Teach your hands to hit different shots. Hit big hooks and slices to understand what happens. Only straight is not gonna teach you anything.
Bryson Dechambeu and Kyle Birkshire can inspire you to hit it longer. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson can give you inspiration and motivation to test new things and new golf shots. Linn Grant can show you the future of ladies golf.
The Masters, Players Championship, The Players, The Open and US Open can make you love golf even more. See the best in the world solve all the problems we all need to master any golf course. Golf is a craft and you need fantasy, feel and skills to master it..

Fantastic video. You have a way of making your words sink in to my brain. Nobody like you online. The trust you engender on here is truly worth its weight in gold. One little story: Years ago, I was hitting balls at the Studio City CA range. In the next stall was Gene Hackman, the actor, and he was slicing every drive, over and over, while his friends watched and sorta mocked him. Finally, I leaned over and asked in a soft voice "Wanta tip...?" He just stopped and stared at me. Then he tipped his head down a little toward me and I whispered "Keep your weight on your back foot". He backed off. Then he slowly took some swings. He teed up a ball and swung and hit the nicest little draw. He turned and stared at me....even I was a little shocked at how immediate the result was. Of course, over the years, buried under a million other tips, I'd forgotten the value of the back foot in driving the golf ball. Your video today again reminded me of what it FELT like to swing and really stay behind the ball. And hopefully never forget it again.

I learned by training for Jiu-jitsu years ago that my left side, my arm, hand and leg are lazy, not weak, just lazy. I am right handed but fairly athletic and am able to do things with both hands so a bit ambidextrous. The lazy thing impacts my golf swing, I have to consciously work my left side to get the right knee and hip action and my left hand does the lazier pulling motion that you describe so when I get tired the ball goes right and slices. This video makes me even more aware of this and the reasons for the slice, skull or shank that can happen when I get tired or don't focus enough. Thanks for the insight!

Hi Marcus , played golf for almost 10 years. 13 handicap (great short game, poor tee to green) . Recently I have been so frustrated because after few lessons and video I was confused and not releasing the club. I could not really grasp the fact the trailing hand has to go faster than my leading and the double pendulum concept. I can really understand and relate to that (I am an engineer). On top of that I am very left handed but started to play right. I started thinking this has been the mother of all my problem since I could not really strike that ball and not hitting many GIR. Well looking at your video was a kind of fresh air and understanding something I can relate . Just did that 4 days ago and I can already start to hit better..scored 38 I’m the last comp 😊…it would take a bit of time to get really better but I can feel I found a concept I believe and relate ! Thanks

Had very good success today using this technique. I watched a video you mentioned your shaft was softer. Can you cover the shaft it’s self And possibly how do you work on the pivot. I recently injured my SI joint so my trail hip was very tight not so mobile., So I practiced driver today with minimal to no pivot just the early release, and I was shocked how far I hit for me., Thanks so much and great to see you healthy.

The effort you've made in creating such a wonderful video, taking care to communicate the information in a logical way, and including the 'how' and 'why' behind these skills really come across in this insightful video! This 'why' is often superficially stated in instruction and I am sure, therefore, that people will see how valuable this is! What I loved about this was the comprehensive overview you gave, relating the short game, irons, and driver. That really helps put the instruction in context I feel, which is what makes me 'buy-in' to it! I enjoyed this so much that I even watched the left-handed version as well!!😀 Love your choice of wording analogies are also helping my concept. 'Only having a 1st serve with Driver' really helps put things in perspective!

Great video. Glad random guy at golf course mentioned your name. I REALLY like your tip about practicing wrong and right swing paths to know the difference. For me I pull hard with left arm and it’s not good, my right hand comes over top my left and toe of club points way left. So I practice that and then do it the right way with toe of club pointing more up. Driver is still a challenge but saw some improvements, didn’t hit usual push shots or slices, instead now dealing with low pull hooks/draws. Feels like I need to swing in to out more with toe of club going upward. Thanks again, looking forward to more videos.

Enjoying your videos, can’t quite get that x inside to out an up move working yet. I did find the ground again target side of the ball, many years since my mind would allow it after playing in the rain and the club slipped and wrecked my right wrist. But, I only got there by a very hand focused fast wrist hinge in the back swing. Also gained some yards back, but no where near the good old days!

Been trying to swing like this for a while but with varying results. I played field hockey and cricket, and when I hit my first golf ball was a natural. However went away from this natural swing with mixed results. Am now 65 and went back to the scoopy handsy release swing. Just discovered your channel and just love how your teaching meshes with how I want to swing the golf club. Am using this swing setup for driver to putter now. Feel like I get better looks at my targets now, and if I want to play a cut/ fade just move my ball position forward. Amazed at how vertical my flop shots go. Still working on it but definitely improvement on distance. 150 yd PW. Driver still work in progress.

Still a work in progress with eking irons but getting there! I work at a golf retail shop and when customers ask why they are hitting it poorly- circle of speed and one fast one slow- ka-pow !! Interesting! I’ve been working hard to GET RID OF my scooping for several years, being right handed but playing from the left. Almost all training sessions I’ve had have focused on that, as the general idea is that you should deloft to compress the ball - with irons that is. Your approach is certainly a paradigm shift. I will try it to see if it’s possible to achieve length AND consistency.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad

Hi Marcus, I'm new to your channel and thoroughly enjoying your captivating content in this video. I'm particularly impressed by your use of the golf mat to illustrate the hand pressure during the forward swing. Have you considered creating a video that focuses on the opposite side of the mat? This would greatly assist me in comprehending the hand pressure dynamics during the backswing. I've noticed that my most powerful swings occur when I intentionally introduce a bit of hand lag as I initiate my swing. Consequently, I believe that during the backswing, maintaining pressure towards the fingertips of each hand might be crucial. I understand this might not align with your teaching approach, but I wanted to explore the concept of contrasting forces in the forward swing, similar to slow hand versus quick hand, starting from the backswing. I may be delving a bit too deeply into this, but I can't help it-I'm an engineer, after all! 😄
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad

Hi Randal. I'm also an engineer and I always try to simplify things. 😊 We don't hit the ball in the back swing and the variety of different back swings on tour is crazy. To be honest marcus i had seen this video previously and didnt like the concept of releasing early/ throughout the downswing as ive always tried to hold on to it and release through impact . After trying so very many things recently to get the power i know im creating through the ball with so very many disheartening results i finally decided to try it and to try to release right from the top … the immediate change was how quickly it synced up my arms and body , but arms leading for a change , it basically feels more like how i hit driver when im comfortable with it , but i could never find it on the bad days .Bloody genius marcus 👍

Your lessons are very insightful Marcus! I'm switching from a stack and tilt(mainly shoulders) swing type where I'm losing power every year as I get older - 57.. I think your hand movement style is the way to go as we age for sure. Much less wear and tear on the body. I've already gained yardage within one week. 7 iron 160+ from 145 ish. One question I have in regards to what I see in most of your videos, is why do you lift the club above the ball about 2 to 4 inches before every shot. So you start at ball height, and right before you start your backswing, you lift the club up above the ball a little. You do it very consistently, just wondering the reason for it. Thank you very much.

Thanks for the videos. Anecdotally; At a local course my friend and I were put with 2 others. One of them was out of shape, had terrible form and a swing that was not circular. Hi Marcus, good to see you again. As I've said in my previous comments, I am left-handed but play right-handed and it's very difficult for me to feel like I'm pushing with my right. What is working is concentrating on my left hand release which is similar to your 'scoop' move. To accomplish this, I feel as though my left forearm begins to rotate over shortly after I begin my downswing. I magnify that with my left wrist making a 'snapping' maneuver. This gets the club shaft out and eliminates any chance for a chicken wing. Does this make sense?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
I need to see it and see the ball flight to give you an accurate answer. If you get the ball flight you want it is working but I think you can get a lot more speed when your right hand wakes up.

@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
Swingpath is NOT the reason. You can miss the ball completely with any swing path. Put an obstacle by the ball that forces you to move the strike further out to avoid it or take a pen and put a dot on the toe part of the face and move your mental impact, you will see a good effect.

Many thanks for the right handed version. One question I have is, it appears from the angle I am viewing the final segment that your trail foot is back of the target line. This is a closed stance to me. Do you recommend that angle in order to swing more inside to put or is it just the angle of the camera? I understand the in/out swing but struggle with the ball placement and foot alignment (old school teachings).
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
Hi. My stance is always opened more or less to the target otherwise I can't hit any good golf shots. Camera angles are a problem in videos. I don't recommend closed stance, it blocks the trail side from going forward.

@@GolfwithMarcusEdbladthanks for the speedy feedback. As a right handed golfer if I understand you correct, you recommend a slightly open stance left of the target line or parallel to the target line. Thanks again. Marcus, when I stay back with the upper body and swing to the right wirh driver my lower back takes a beating. Any comments on how you can protect the lower back and still stay behind the ball at impact without all the backward tilt?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 2 дня назад
We all need to rise up through the ball if we want to maximize our driver shots. I strength train my abdominal muscle to protect me from over extended and that is the only thing I can recommend. Plan B could be to hit down with the driver and hit more like an iron shot with it but it will have a negative effect on distance.
@thefishnmusician9667

@@GolfwithMarcusEdblad I think pushing off the lead foot will eliminate the twist and not falling back on my back foot tyring to stay back while turning my hips. My abs are strong as I work them with weights. I still managed to strain. What about raising the lead shoulder to the lead ear instead of twisting as much on the follow through?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 2 дня назад
@@thefishnmusician9667 Somehow we need to put the brakes on the speed we generated through the ball. Your arm speed will always make you rise and bend backwards. I can only see one solution and that is to try to restrain how much you bend and that is a job for your abs.

Thanks for this Marcus. I understand your emphasis on the hands but doesn’t the body also have a role in the power of pushing? That is, it’s not just the hands OR the body but rather the hands AND the body?
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
It's always both but we don't need to ask for help from our body. If you push against anything with your hand. If you push gently it's mostly arm and hand but when you increase your force your body will aid that motion. It doesn't work in the opposite way. I can rotate my body a whole day without my arms and hands doing anything. That's the core of my golf shots. 👍

I don't want to obsess on the grip, but you say you have a "weak" lead hand grip. I get that. Is your trail hand grip considered weak or strong? I have heard people talk about the trail hand and it seems to be opposite....in other words, a "weak" trail hand grip looks and feels "strong" in comparison to the lead hand. Am I overthinking this? Lol! Or should one put palms facing, so in essence BOTH hands are weak? Confused. Let me know. I often feel that my trail hand does well slightly "thumb up".
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad 9 месяцев назад
No problem, there are a lot of golfers that overthink the grip. Other instructors I discuss with say the grip is being weak but for me my grip is strong. It suits the way I wanna hit the ball. The palm of my trail hand faces the target and the back of my lead hand is almost facing the target. Both my hands are considered week but it's the grip that works for me and that you should think about. What feels best for you. What grip makes you feel the strongest when you hit a ball?

@patmiller1762 Месяц назад
It seems to me that when you say one fast hand and one slow hand, you are really talking about. One fast arm, and one slow arm. It feels like my lead arm doesn't move during the down swing. Maybe I'm wrong. On another note, when I intentionally swing my driver from the inside. I drop kick almost every time. Any videos to help me with this. I love you instructions. I'm playing a lot better golf swinging your way.
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad
@GolfwithMarcusEdblad Месяц назад
Yes, what moves the hand is the arm and what moves the arm is the muscles in the shoulder. Why I mostly say fast hand is because we don't need to know the details. If you want to move your hand your arm will do that. Find the thought that works best for you. I rarely see anyone drop kick there driver but I would start looking at ball position and tee hight. A to low tee or a ball position to far forward makes it impossible to hit the driver from the inside. Good luck my friend. 👍
