*0:50** LYRICS - More Than a Name on a Wall* ------------ I saw her from a distance As she walked up to the wall In her hand she held some flowers As her tears began to fall She took out pen and paper As to trace her memory She looked up to Heaven And the words she said were these She said, Lord my boy was special And he meant so much to me You know I'd love to see him Just one more time you see All I have are my memories And the moments to recall So Lord would you tell him He's more than a name on a wall She said, he really missed his family And being home on Christmas Day But he died for God and Country In a place so far away I remember just a little boy Playing war since he was three But Lord this time I know He's not coming home to me She said, Lord my boy was special And he meant so much to me You know I'd love to see him Just one more time you see So I thank you for my memories And the moments to recall So Lord would you tell him He's more than a name on a wall Oh Lord would you tell him He's more than a name on a wall Album: Homesick for a Country
I am truly amazed that this beautiful song so beautifully sung does not get more views I find it compelling listening such beautiful harmonies thank you
As a wife of a very ill Vietnam Veteran, this song means the world to me. Thank you so much for singing it! And thank you to your daddy as well for his service!
Kimmy Sue, praying that you and your husband well. I served with Lima Battery, 4th Battalion, 11th Marines, Hill 54, 1966-67; have struggled through the years. There was a time I'd go to bed fully dressed, so if anything happened I could respond quickly, would throw up in my sleep, awaken choking, other times would wake up screaming. As a wife of a veteran, am sure you've endured, suffered much through the years. A Marine corporal, I salute you Kimmy Sue, may the Good Lord bless!
This very talented family is America's national treasure! Listening to their performance, you understand what talented Americans are, what kind of soulful people. I love this family and admire their work. With love and respect from Russia.
64 year old Marine here. Lost quite a few buddies to the savagery of war. Now my eyes well up, once again, as they did every time Jimmy and the Statlers sang this. Thank you for a beautiful rendition and for paying attention to keeping the message of The Wall alive.
Thank you for this. Like others commenting, I'm a veteran too and am getting towards retirement now. This song has a lot of meaning. May Gd Bless you all.
I never thought that I would like Bluegrass music...UNTIL I started listening to The Petersens!!!! Absolutely love this especially as a retired Air Force memeber.
Just had to listen again. Brought tears to this Marine's eyes. Yep, even hard nosed old Marines cry. Beautiful rendition. Clean instrumentation and those wonderful voices with Heavenly harmony. Thank you!
I always got teary eyed when the Starler brother sang this. But listening to these girls sing it I could not hold back the tears. This is song that should be played more often to remind people of the price of going to war and it's the young that pay it.
This is a truly beautiful and fitting tribute. As a former military physician, this song always brings tears as I picture the faces of all those young lives that ended too soo. Also, your Dad looks really familiar, so I think our paths might have crossed at some point within the DoD Medical system. -Dr. Scot Elliott, former LCDR MC USN
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this song and performance, I'm a veteran that had many brothers and sisters that didn't make it home. What a talented family the Petersens are, great harmonies and Ellen's voice is music to my soul.
@Joe Chandler You are right. This song gets to me because two of the boys from our little rural community are on the WALL. There are two others though died when they got home. One of them was a very good friend to me. Our Dads' farms joined each other and Buddy and his two older brothers I always went over to visit. He was the youngest and like a little brother was always a tag-along. He got out of the marines in August and I got out in September. I meant to go over and see him but it was fall and we both got busy with helping on the farm. The first time I saw him was at his funeral as he like many returning vets killed himself. Not a day goes by I do not think of him and wish we could have swapped sea stories. Perhaps things would have turned out differently. USMC1969-1971
Bless you guys. I'm a 21 year retired Air For e vet who's been playing bluegrass since I was 17. I'm predominantly a banjo player but play guitar, dobro and mandolin as well, and hope to hear more from you. The ladies are awesome but I love the dobro Emmet plays as well. I salute your dad for his service.
Thankyou for this beautiful song , with incredible harmonies. A song that remembers those this Nation has chosen to forget , the cannon fodder left behind , buried, wounded , from all the wars ever fought. Veteran : USN , Retired.
Fantastic Harmony.. If you have family that can sing 🎶 it will always be the best vocals mix you can have.. I know cause I sang with my Mom , Dad and Sister since I was five yrs of age. I'm 61 now and they're all gone.. listening to the harmonies brings back memories. Time goes bye quickly, so cherish and soak it all up now , so you can remember later.. thanks for this song..
This retired A.F. AMMO troop is sitting here crying like a baby. I grew up watching the Vietnam War on the nightly news. I was in the first Gulf War. I know the sacrifices that we’re made for our freedoms. God bless your family. Beautiful rendition of a Jimmy Fortune song.
I listen to this on memorial Day weekend wow thank you so much you do it great performance of this brought tears to my eyes what a special special song thank you to all who have served
As a veteran of the US Army and Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and having lost 3 three hometown friends during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom during the Global War on Terror, this song holds a special place in my heart. I must say, as beautiful as the song is, I've NEVER heard it performed as beautifully as The Peterson's do. Their harmonies are exquisite. Bravo! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great song the statlers they are 58000 names on the wall it's something to see a name and think they was once a person who died for me and all America god bless all them
What really saddens me is that in the fall of 1967 the politicians knew the war was unwinnable but they were too cowardly to tell the American people the truth. At that time there were about 10,000 dead service men and women. I served from 1969 to 1971 even though I knew it was a lost cause.
Nathan Adrian , here in the u k we have The D Day Darlings doing lots for The British Legion , singing for Vets on birthdays etc, would love them to hear The Petersens sing this and I think would be great for them to sing at The National Memorial Arbouretum , there’s a wall with the names of those who died in conflict since WWII ,
@@glennericksenmusic That 5th low pitched string makes it sound like a viola. Check out Kimber Ludiker of Della Mae who also plays the 5 string fiddle.
Absolutely one of the best and most moving songs I have heard you perform! Beautiful harmony! Thank you for recognizing our men and women who have sacrificed so much for our country.
I do love this song. It shows a mother's true grief. No matter how big or old we get, our mothers still see us as that little baby the doctor laid on her breast. My mom and dad sent my brother to the Army during Korea and me to the Marines during Vietnam. I know they worried about us every day. The draft fell very heavily on the rural boys and our area was no exception. We had two who died in Vietnam and two who died shortly after getting back. The last wo are not on the Wall but Vietnam killed them just the same.
My dad did four tours in Vietnam with usmc, living on base we feared it when that military vehicle would pull up to one of our neighbors house and the two guys in marine dress blues would step out. It put fear in our hearts to be a bunch of dumb kids not really understanding what the war was for or why our friends dad died and the family then had to pack up and leave base housing. We only knew that every one of those men were heroes and everyone was kind and nice to us kids. We never foresaw a wall with their names coming in the future. We often hung our heads in Shame as kids being glad that it wasn’t our dads that that car with those marines were pulling up to the house to explain would not be coming back.
This is another song I wasn’t aware of. It’s really great, and you folks sing it beautifully! Ellen, I love when you get down in your lower register and don’t force it - just let it come. Shivers! Thank you all.
Must be kizmit today we remember the fallen at 11 am 11 November less we forget all who never returned British Commonwealth and Allies so when this poped up on u tube well had to say thanks for a beautiful song to remind us The Petersens
I am a Vietnam veteran 1967-68 every name is more than a name on the wall, we were different, we thought that we were doing the right thing for our country.
I grew up with the Statler Brothers and Jimmy Fortune. Beautiful rendition of one of his best songs. Harmonies are amazing. Thanks and merry Christmas!
Is there a more beautiful sounding, real, gorgeous, adorable family band than the Petersens? I think not! These are angels’ souls who decided to incarnate together in one family nucleus to show the world that good, kindness, and genuine love for God, country and family are alive, well, and strong, so we can have hope and imitate their love on the ones we’re with (because we chose them!) God bless you for the blessings you bestow upon us! I don’t care what it’ll take but I’m coming to see you in Branson sometime in the near future! Please, please don’t t ever beak up nor quit because we’ll break up and quit😞
That’s song means so much to so many, absolutely beautifully performed. What a great tribute. I’m a vet but never served in combat, those people who do are special indeed.
