This is another brilliant video Sam, really sweet of you for doing another for the Thomas fans and the little interactions you gave for Thomas gave me the giggles. All I know about Pip and Emma was that they brought Prince Charles to Sodor in the final book in 2011 I think. Finally I'm so happy you got a silver link as well! The silvers are true beauties. Thank you M
Hi Mark, thanks very much my friend - yeah I do enjoy doing these Thomas videos - brings me back to my childhood! That's very cool about Pip and Emma too! :D Thanks for all the info, Sam :)
No worries mate - and no problem, yeah that was a fun one! Glad you like the layout too - I've added a few trees, and some fencing soon! :D All the best, Sam :)
having any model that is not an official model is practically impossible. His models have been extremely modified from his basis, a Trojan (from the GWR), and even that engines hasn't been made in Hornby. Or Lady, which the best would be one on of the generic side tanks with valve gear.
Okay cool - glad you approve! Yeah I've written the shunting video idea down - I don't know when I'll be doing it, but I do definitely plan to do it! Cheers, Sam :)
Brilliant job Sam always love seeing Thomas locos! Also in Thomas Gordon's brother is the flying Scotsman also Percy's real basis is GWR Avonside tank engine
Thanks so much mate - really glad you liked them! Yeah I was reading about that - and I wish I had one of those, I don't know whether anyone makes one though sadly :( Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Only two of the E2s were actually in the brown livery - 103 and 104 apparently, as they did passenger tests. The rest of them were in the same livery design but black with red lining. With Percy I'd say the best un-modified lookalike is the Avonside SS Class, thing with Percy is he's a loco that's been rebuilt over the years and modified beyond recognisability to how he originally was, like a few industrials in real life. Can I also ask how well your Silver Link model runs? Seems to be quite good in the video, I've got the same model and it's given me nothing but trouble - second hand so that could be a factor, haha.
Hi, thanks so much for the info on the E2s and percy, very interesting to hear! Silver link runs quite well - but they can be troublesome, just make sure the motor is well oiled, and that the wheel set runs freely! All the best, Sam :)
I'd love to do a part 3 - and if people want me to, I will! The trouble is, I don't know if there's many characters I've not done yet... that I also own! Still more Thomas videos to come - I've got reviews, and running sessions to do with them! :D Cheers, Sam :)
Hi mate, thanks so much for the comment, and for subscribing! I really hope you enjoy the videos - and if there's anything you'd like to see - please let me know! :D Thanks again, Sam :)
Nice video! I am thinking about picking up Hornby Thomas and Percy, their prices are currently very low so with shipping it to the Netherlands it won't get to expensive. :DDavid
From Wiki: Percy as a model. Percy is an 0-4-0ST of unknown origin, but is almost certainly second hand. Percy arrived on Sodor in 1934 and was first used as Tidmouth Pilot, then to help rebuild Knapford Harbour. Percy is now based at Ffarquhar. Percy arrived in "Troublesome Engines" (1950), the only loco whose acquisition from a workshop is actually described. His own book "Percy the Small Engine" dates from 1956. Meanwhile, Hornby's later 00 gauge Percy was made from a brand new tool after initial thoughts to use their Caledonian Railway "Pug" were rejected, although Percy eventually came to share many of its parts.
Sam'sTrains Hiya Sam, funnily enough the pug didn't have a name and only appeared in one or two illustrations in the book. He was a visitor from another railway who came to help on Sodor whilst Thomas and some other engines went of to a railway show! All the best, Tom
haha! Thanks for your lovely support - glad you were looking forward to it! Yes I've bought more Thomas trains - and I'll be showing those soon! :D Cheers, Sam :)
I used to love Thomas the tank engine when I was a kid, especially those narrated by ringo Starr, I didn't know green arrow was in the railway series. it was a great running session. Keep the faith - Callum
Hi Callum, thanks a lot for the comment! Yeah, it didn't feature heavily - but it was in just one or two of the books apparently! Glad you enjoyed it, Cheers, Sam :)
from what I've looked up, Percy is some what based off of The GWR No. 1340 Trojan st saddle tank, and so Awdry stated that Percy had probably begun as one of these, but had been extensively rebuilt - "fitters at Crovan's Gate have found components made by Hunslet and other manufacturers"
Thanks very much mate! Yeah I like that idea - but sadly my internet is too slow to stream any decent quality video - I guess I could try! Also it takes quite a while to get trains on and off the track - so maybe it would be a bit slow and annoying, I don't know ;D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Where was Wilbert? Wilbert was an orange 0-6-0ST, and was based on a "Hunslet Austerity", built by the Hunslet Locomotive Company in Leeds for the Ministry of Supply during World War 2, after which 75 were bought by the LNER, who classified them J94. The design was so useful that they were still being built for industry right up until 1967, in addition to those still owned by the Ministry of Defence. A model of the J94 is available from both Hornby and Hattons. Incidentally, Wilbert was named after the author of the "Thomas" series - Rev Wilbert Awdry.
Fun Fact: Bear, Oliver, Toad, and The Flying Scotsman (as well as Diesel 199 and Isabel the GWR Auto-coach) were all introduced in the same Railway Series Book, “Enterprising Engines,” by the Rev. W. Awdry in 1967.
Percy is based from the Avonside 0-4-0ST GWR Engine. Bear was used to be called 7101. He was painted blue. I like him in blue. There were no blue diesel engines on Sodor.
Thanks very much! No not really - I think I may have read a few books, but I've only really watched it now that I'm older - kind of mixed up huh? All the best, Sam :)
I think you should do a double-header running session with Thomas and Friends and their real life counterparts. BTW I like your vids! Plss dont give up with your bashers and do more beautiful videos!
Fun fact Despite appearences, Diesel is not actually an 08. He is an experimental prototype diesel built in 1939 for the LMS.He is very proud, because he is the only ever member of his class
Good choice of Percy it may not be correct to the TV series however according to The Thomas books the boiler shape is very similar. Anyway amazing vid as always Sam. :)
Some more Thomas & friends in real life: Charlie: L1 Edward: K2 Toby: J70 Donald & Douglas: 812 D7101: Class 40 D199: Class 46 Rebecca: West Country/Battle of Britain Adam (an obscure engine mentioned in the railway series): Adams Radial Stepney: Terrier Bluebell & Primrose (more obscure engines from the railway series): P class
"Percy is primarily based on a Avonside 0-4-0ST with Hunslet underframes and valve gear, a smokebox protruding from his saddletank, external cylinders and motion, and sandboxes underneath the tanks on his footplate. "Modifications made to Percy's shape include the angled smokebox supports and possibly a coal bunker." ~ The Thomas Wiki. Percy's TV series models and Merchandise models look very different from his actual basis. This is because the illustrator who originally drew Percy didn't do it very well. The writer, Rev. W. Awdry, often insulted the illustrations. He said the Percy artwork looked like "A Green Caterpillar with stripes." The later authors had much more accurate drawings, but Percy has still been portrayed with his inaccuracies.
haha! Thanks for the comment - and for doing all that research! hehe - a caterpillar with stripes - that's a bit harsh isn't it?? ;) But okay cool - that's very interesting! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
i was going to use one of my cr of for percy but it did not look right to me i was expecting you to say "can i have some more please sir?" nice vid you have more of range than me but top draw arp
Bear was BR blue when he came to sodor along with D199 or 'old reliable'/spamcan but stayed and was repainted whereas D199 was sent away/taken away by Donald or douglas
4:33 funnily enough the CR 0-4-0 was used as the prototype for Percy back in the 1980s, and when Britt Alcroft saw it she made them change it to look more like Percy's TV model.
1,000th comment! Also in my opinion I just think the hornby thomas is just long. I don't want to start a hornby vs bachmann argument. Nice video Sam!! Morgan :)
