More WEIRD Places In Hoenn! (Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire/ ORAS) 

I think this is why I used to love Hoenn/Emerald so much as a kid. It was very explorable and sort of open world before I knew what that was

My biggest Pokemon regret. My original Diamond trainer code was 22222, I later reset and sold that game but only if I knew that the time that rare trainer codes were a thing!

I grew up on Gen 3 so finding hidden places like these was like finding a $20 bill crumpled in the couch.

That 'Jigglypuff island' place was always kinda cool to be for just how out of the way it was. it was a great reward for searching all over the game for new locations. Especially since this region has secret bases, so any new plot of land could've had the perfect secret base for you.

Hoenn gave me the best experience when it comes to exploring a region. As you pointed out, there are many places your don't have to explore but is there to enjoy...maybe except Altering Cave and Scorched Slab. Sinnoh could have been second but the game's slowness can be a bit annoying.

This is what some more recent games lack and what I miss Going off the beaten path to explore and maybe finding useful things

I think Emerald is the reason I love to explore so much. It has so much stuff and variety to see. The trick house was one of my favorite parts of the early game, I didn't even mind doing it over and over whenever I restarted the game.

Interesting. I wonder if Jirachi was supposed to be in the Scorched Slab. Amaterasu is like a Sun Goddess from the heavens IIRC and Jirachi is a star Pokemon from space. He's also steel type and iirc amaterasu has a magical mirror

When I found Jigglypuff Island for the first time I was so excited. I played through gen 3 a ton before finally finding the island randomly and I didn't even know Jigglypuff was on the hoenn dex so that was really cool.

My story related to the last place: I was in primary school, when playing Pokemon Emerald. So I had just a little knowledge about the things and so my father printed me out some pages from a userbased tipps and tricks website. There were trolls like special pokemon, that appear, when you do certain things and often locations for shinys. So i read, that shiny Taillow can be found at the route north of the Meteor falls. So I went there and I searched for it. I haven't known anything about shinys and the odds, but I was so lucky, that I got a shiny swablu after some time (really not long. I was impatient). I trained it to become an altaria. So a friend of mine, who had ruby version was a little jealous and wanted that shiny. So I gave it to him without cloning (I don't know, why I haven't done this that time, because I already knew, how to do it). The next time he visited me, ithe Altaria and all of his Pokemon were gone because a friend of him borrowed the game and started it from beginning. So that was the story of my first shiny ever... You forgot to mention in ORAS that you can catch Spiritomb in Sea Mauville.

I read somewhere that the trainers on the abandoned ship are actually ghosts

Also, the odd little lake west of Fallarbor town/north of Meteor Falls, where you have to use waterfall to get up. It has a rare candy and it's one of the possible locations of the Terra Cave

I remember doing all that going around and explore i always loved looking through the guidebooks and when i First found out about the cave with the weird "language" i realized i had the same Symbols already seen in the book and solving that riddle as a child was so big for me took me forever to get that wailord as a child. Sadly the game on the Switch cant get more linear compared to the old gems

This just shows how much i played this game as a kid because ive seen all of these. I used to have my base on jigglypuff island with the red tent you get from going through that entire mystery house. Also had a copy of my friend in my base with a copy of his team to battle whenever i wanted. So much fun

Here are some more strange places in the Pokémon world: Johto: Dark Cave: Dark Cave is an optional cave with three different points of entry (Route 31, Route 45, and Route 46), although the cave is separated into two completely separate sections, with the Route 31 entrance leading to one side and the Route 45 and 46 entrances leading to another side (although, players cannot go from Route 46 to Route 45 through the cave because of ledges). This is the only location in the entirety of the Johto region where players can capture Dunsparce and Wobbuffet. Ruins of Alph: The Ruins of Alph is between Route 32 and Route 36 and has four puzzles that unlock Unown, and once you capture all 26 letters of Unown, you can find the ! and ? forms of Unown. The Ruins of Alph has tall grass that can only be accessed through Union Cave, and this is the only location of Natu and Smeargle in the entire Johto region. Also, if you bring an Arceus, the scientists there will bring you to Sinjoh Ruins, where you can get either a Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina. Union Cave: Union Cave has two basement floors, with the B1F containing an entrance to the Ruins of Alph and the B2F containing a Lapras, which can only be encountered on Fridays after Morty has been defeated. Mt. Mortar: Mt. Mortar is an optional cave in Route 42, and it is the only place where players can find Marill in Gold and Silver, the only place where you can find a Dragon Scale (other than getting it from a wild Dratini, Dragonair, Horsea, or Seadra), and the only place in Gold and Silver where one can receive a Tyrogue (after defeating Karate King Kiyo). Hoenn: Granite Cave: In the basement floor of Granite Cave, there are muddy slopes which can be clambered with a Mach Bike, granting players access to a few items. Additionally, this is the only place in Hoenn where one can find Nosepass (use Rock Smash). Jagged Pass: In Jagged Pass, the Acro Bike can be used to go uphill, and this is the only place in Hoenn where players can find Spoink (and no trainer in Hoenn uses Spoink or Grumpig so it is pretty obscure). Meteor Falls: After climbing the waterfall, there is a room in the basement where Bagon can be found in all of Hoenn, and in Emerald, Steven can be battled here. Sevii Islands: Cape Brink: There is a house north of Two Island where a Move Tutor will teach Frenzy Plant to Venusaur, Blast Burn to Charizard, and Hydro Cannon to Blastoise if it has maximum friendship. Three Isle Port and Path: After defeating the Elite Four and obtaining the National Pokédex, a man in Three Isle Port will dig a tunnel leading to an isolated patch of grass in Three Isle Port where Dunsparce can be found in all of Generation III. Water Labyrinth: The Water Labyrinth is a maze of sea rocks north of Five Island, and, at the end, there is an old man that will grant the player an Egg containing Togepi if the first Pokémon in the party has high friendship. Lost Cave: Lost Cave is a cave at the very northeast end of Five Island that needs to be traversed in a specific way to avoid being sent back to the beginning. This is the only location of Murkrow and Misdreavus in Generation III and the the only place to find the Lax Incense and Sea Incense in FireRed and LeafGreen. Dotted Hole: Dotted Hole is the location of the Sapphire and tells the player what to do with Braille. Tanoby Key and Chambers: The Tanoby Key is a cave south of Seven Island that involves a puzzle using HM04 Strength. Filling the holes in the ground with the boulders will unlock Unown in Tanoby Chambers. Sinnoh: Old Chateau: The Old Chateau is an abandoned mansion in Eterna Forest, and players can occasionally see the ghost of a butler in the kitchen and a little girl in a bedroom, but they leave the screen before the player can move. Additionally, Rotom can be found in the television. Solaceon Ruins: The Solaceon Ruins are similar to the Ruins of Alph in that, after capturing all 26 letters of Unown, players can find the ! and ? forms of Unown through a tunnel dug by the Ruin Maniac in Maniac Tunnel. Also, Hippopotas becomes more common in Maniac Tunnel when you collect more forms of Unown. Floaroma Meadow: There is a northern section of Floaroma Meadow that can be accessed by using HM03 Surf along the river in Route 205. There are several items here.

I also came to the shoal cave specifically for a Snorunt because Ash had one 🥺 I love Hoenn

One thing i alway noticed is that the "area" for wurmple (in the dex) highlights a small out of bounds area just east of petalburg woods. And i tried for so long to find away to get there, sadly its probably just a visual bug.

Does anyone else feel like the Main Character in Gen 3 walks/runs up and down faster than he does left or right or is that just me?

wait you can access different parts of shoal cave based on the tides?? damn, i never knew that because when i played ruby as a kid, by the time i eventually got around to exploring it, the internal battery was dead and the time didn't work anymore :') that reminds me though, i need to replace that battery sometime, i LOVED doing contests and making pokeblocks when i was little, so not being able to grow a steady supply of berries anymore is kinda sad

Me and my childhood best friend had our secret bases on Jigglypuff Island. I remember thinking it was so cool to have a base in such a hidden place!! Good memories

My cousin and I had to work together to figure out the Regi Puzzle. I was the one who was the Braille translator and I was the one who identified it as braille having spent time in the library looking at a "strange" book they had out and open with just plastic pages and bumps, he was more on figuring out what the puzzles meant, I knew some but he was a lot better at that than me. I miss when we did that :P

Wow if only the made tons of secret areas like this in other games there are some in black and white 2 when u try to catch all the legendaries but this here is cooler

I no longer know where any of my hoenn gba games (ik. I suck. but Nintendo sucks for not having them on virtual console.) I still remember being simply mystified by certain secrets of Hoenn. It felt like there was so much to discover and do. I always felt like there was something new

I find it weird that I remember buying myself either a D,P OR PL as kid but not having any memories about it so I always wonder why people find it so nostalgic or love it me personally I remember heartgold and the black and white games better and I don't think I owned a copy of heartgold.

Only reason I liked Sinnoh alot was because Diamond was my first game ever. I never knew I could have my own house. Now that I ruined my game and have bought a new game of Diamond and bought a new HeartGold since I lost my last one im playing back on older generations to catch up to current generations. I do like the Hoenn region of the short time I played it. Its pretty cool. I loved the underground base in Diamond I fell into a trap since it been offline in pokemon black I think and I quit cuz I was bored and didn't save.

Well these place sure are wired well some are too wired to have like cave where we get sunny day but others are for reasons like mini puzzle game (trick house) shoal cave specific to get ice Pokemons. Also regies area make sense as regies ar old Pokemon and as stated in anime they are found in ruins so digging deep for them make sense and got the theme for these reasons they doesn't seem wired to me even sarcastically lol
