This car actually has a 1.8L Ford engine and the highest spec put out 125 horse powers so... Not exactly what I would call high performance. Top speed is only about 185kmh btw.

Exactly, being a 3 door hatchback they only have brake discs on the front with drums on the rear so at that speed slamming on the little brake discs were having to take about 80% of the weight/force as it leans forward taking Wight and traction off of the rear, if it had brake discs on the rear maybe it would have helped but there's also things like tyres to bear in mind, they probably don't have the best tyres on a little hatchback People are stupid if the Morgan was patient it would have been avoided completely

He wasn't braking hard because his tires didn't lock up at all. He didn't screetch to a halt whatsoever. Even with ABS you always get some lockup on a panic brake. And with the rate of automotive insurance fraud in Europe and opulent appearance of a Morgan, I don't think it's that far fetched to say they maybe didn't do everything in their power to avoid the collision.

I fully agree about the lack of stopping power in the Peugeot, however it also looks like it was going pretty fast. The impact looks like it was at a fair speed, especially because the Morgan wasn't exactly crawling. Now to say it was already braking would then mean it had been going faster before than it was at impact. Obviously I cannot tell the speed for certain, it is just we all know that no matter how good/bad your brakes are, speed is a huge factor in stopping time. I feel the Morgan misjudged the speed of the Peugeot and pulled out with too small a gap, hoping they would pick up speed faster than they did. - Morgan at primary fault in my eyes but with speed possibly being a factor on the Peugeot. Either way, it must have been horrible for them both.

The Morgan pulled out in front of a car. none of this would have happened if it didn't. assigning blame to a driver where there is no evidence of failure on their part is not in line with what can be seen. There is no speed signs to be seen in the footage. Assuming the speed limit by visually referencing other cars is not accurate, is based on the assumption that the other cars are at or around the speed limit. Visual referencing of speed is not accurate and is dependent on viewing angles and relative positions. It does not hold any weight in determining speed in legal terms, and video is usually analysed by using time, frame rate, lens angle and also distance references that can be determined on location. They do not spend the resources on doing so in accidents where injuries have not occurred. A police officer will have charged the Morgan because they are the one who entered a roadway and failed to give way. one of the main reasons to give way to vehicles on a roadway you're entering is purely because speed cannot be determined accurately and safety dictates the car entering should wait. If there is real evidence that the Peugeot driver was speeding, then it would still be considered the Morgan's fault, with the Peugeot driver getting a speeding ticket or some negligence charge. For that you need footage of the speedometer, Dashcam footage with speed noted from within the Peugot, Dashcam footage with speed noted from within a car immediately behind the Peugot that shows the Peugeot, or a police detection of the speed in the moments before the incident. The video above may be analysed to give the Peugeot's speed but from all the evidence within the video we see, we cannot determine this. P.S. I know the OP says 50mph speed limit, but again, there's no evidence showing how fast the Peugeot was going.

the braking distance at 50 mph is about 53 meters (wikipedia), which should be plenty if he started to break in time. idiot driver.

That was my thought, that the Eurobox doesn't have ABS. It also doesn't have a lot of mass so it's not a massive impact but still too bad for the beautiful Morgan.

Judging be the time the horn sounded and speed of the 206, i estimate it only travelled 30 meters before impact. Even if 53 is where it "should" stop, it didnt make it to that mark. And keep in mind with those stats, those are recorded with new brakes and new tires. Not every vehicle on the road had new tires and nee brakes.

definitely his fault, but, there was still no need for the crash. that car didn't squeal his tires from his brakes even in the slightest, and, there was plenty of room to swerve around him. it's a strange phenomenon, and mostly in Europe(Russia really), of drivers just crashing into things and never applying the brakes. they clearly see what's about to happen, but still just plow into something instead of taking evasive maneuvers. a horn is the last thing to be applying.

Also note the 50mph speed limit on the sign up ahead. If it's 50 up there then the road the Pug is on must be national speed limit, and it's a duel carriageway - aka 70mph. There's no way that Pug was stopping.

Could you not tell the Pug veered to the left, but was cutoff further by the Morgan? What I saw was the Morgan cutting in, the Pug trying to dodge left, and signal with the horn his intention to pass on the left, assuming that the driver in the Morgan would use common sense, and pull right to keep from taking the entirety of the lane and shoulder. Instead the Morgan drifted all the way across the lane and onto the shoulder, and the only dodge for the Pug at that point would have created a "high-side" to his momentum and flipped his car. That is my view of the events, and I put myself in the Pug's driver's position from the onset of the video. That was possibly what I would have done, had I felt I couldn't stop in time, or that braking would have created a more dangerous condition(though I'm not claiming that's the case with braking, just what I'd do if braking wasn't a good option). Very tough to keep from jamming on that pedal, but older drivers still don't trust ABS to keep them from skidding...I know I still pump them when in a situation, and I'm only 46.

@@joncoe9046 Yes Jon there might only be one official lane but there’s plenty of tarmac acting as a second lane painted in white cross hatchings which is as good as another lane, there’s no reason why the driver couldn’t have manoeuvred round the Morgan, it doesn’t look like the Peugeot tried to brake even though the driver had time to sound the hooter. Maybe the Peugeot’s brakes were defective which would explain a few things.

@@BobK5 brakes were on when it came into shot. Also, theres a big ass keep left arrow blocking half the cross hatched part of the road so nowhere for the Peugeot to go. Whichever way you look at it, the morgan driver was driving without due care and attention. More interested in showing off leaving a car show than the safety of themselves and everyone else on the road. Usual classic car braindead mentality.

@@joncoe9046 Jon look again and if you can’t see that there are two lanes but the outside lane is painted with white cross hatchings then look when the 3rd car comes into the picture and you’ll see that there is room for two cars side by side easily, the road narrows sign is irrelevant as there was no on coming traffic. Yes the brakes lights were on but no skidding or lock ups and its too old for ABS, the Peugeot doesn’t look like it’s under the effect of the brakes and after the collision the Peugeot keeps rolling forward with the brakes lights showing, something not right there. Here’s my tip to help you if you encounter someone pulling in front of you at a low speed that you’re going to smash into, take avoiding action, if you have ABS you can brake and steer safely out of the way, if not you’ll have to use cadence braking and steering as best your skill level will allow but don’t just sit at the wheel continuing forward at a great rate of knots with your hand on the hooter, hooting is pointless.

If the hill crest is blind the pug should have been more careful coming over it then. And 200m is plenty of time to brake. So which is it? But the Mog was still technically at fault. It is possible that the pug should have braked sooner but we can’t be sure because we can’t see the whole scene showing the approach.
