As a white working man I just gotta say to the Mexicans... Genuinely Thank you for working harder than most people and for doing the jobs many refuse to do. Illegal or not they lighten our load and make it convenient for the rest if us. From picking and growing your food to building your homes and keeping, them as nice as you want them to. They bring thier heritage with them, and that includes some damn good recipes. Illegal doesn't always mean criminal; it just means theyre willing to take a risk most of you wouldn't to take care of themselves and their families. Hard demeaning jobs with little to no benefits and usually done with a smile. Fuck it lets trade places with these guys, even for a month and tell me you still want them out.
Live and let live, thumbs up to you sir couldn't said it better my self, the hardest part is educating all those ignorant people that don't know the struggle and hard work that most illegal Mexicans have to endure to put a plate of food on the table for their families

Dan Lewis actually illegal is the definition of criminal. A criminal is a person who commit a crime. Being here without proper documentation is committing a crime everyday. Thats is pretty plain and simple. There is not a specail definition for criminal to fit their needs
mike taylor I bet you feel special now. You're arguing semantics, you completely miss the point of my original comment here. They are welcome in my eyes, in my country, in my life; screw trump and his "righteous crusade". They make my life convenient, and god damn it if I can't get a proper taco and botana made right.. These are thoughts, not yours. You can have your opinion or share my own. This is 'MERICA🇺🇸 you dont have to agree, but we can still tell each other to PISS OFF! In the best way possible. No really.
He did this job 4 5 days and he's brave? Have about? the Mexicans labores that do this 20 30 years and get abused , criticized , get call criminals discriminated ..what are they?
He is not a American he is one anglosajón European , The only Americans are the Mexican people the nativos ok , the gringos are Europeans Estadunidenses .
@@lil-gl2ci nah Puerto Rican’s be lazy af all over the east coast you see them on the streets all hours of the day having parties and blasting music while you never see Mexicans being bums all day and I’m not even Latino but I’m speaking from what I have seen for years..Mexicans are the hardest working Latino race out there hands down
What bothers me the most is that nobody, no candidate, no trump, rubio, or ted cruz will talk about who works in these jobs. In Florida, 99% of people doing these are Mexicans, the funny thing is that you won't find one Cuban doing this. They come to America and show their cuban id, and that's it. THEY AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFY FOR ALL BENEFITS. Yes, make cubans go through the green card from day one, driver's licene, welfare package, food stamps, health coverage, section 8, education, even college.. This has been going on for 50 years or more and nobody complains. enough is enough. make cubans go throgh the same process as the rest of the latin americans.
Fender Strat um guys... you do know jfk was responsible for the bay of pigs invasion that resulted in the deaths of countless Cubans the rest were imprisoned or tortured and that wet foot dry foot act is a sort of reparation for that. Cuba is a communist totalitarian dictatorship complete with their own secret police. This is not your typical Latin American country it is the only terrorist country in Latin America for you to want to deny Cubans political asylum well that's just heartless my grandfather would have BEEN MURDERED by Castro's government had he no left Cuba. You guys don't know shit about shit.
Talking about terrorism? Cuban exhile produced Luis Posada Carriles and received a hero's welcome in Florida. This guy placed a bomb in an airliner killing dozens of cuban students.
still why should you come here with all the advantages and benefits ... DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY OTHER LATIN AMERICAN COUNTRIES WENT THROUGH A CIVIL WAR TOO ? AND CAUSED BY THE USA TOO ? PLENTY .... AND THE USA DID NOTHING TO HELP THOSE IS SCREWED WITH ... CUBA WAS SIMPLY A PISSING MATCH BETWEEN THE USA AND RUSSIAN .. A WAY TO POKE RUSSIA IN THE EYE.
Much respect Mr. Spurlock. I've planted and topped onions and respect the fact that you wanted to experience this kind of work first hand. It's not easy getting up in the early morning knowing it's going to be another tough day. I encourage people to try this. Not permanently, but just to learn to appreciate other types of work and the people willing to do this their entire life.
How come all the people who voted for trump ain't on here saying they're stealing their jobs lol ? Respect to this man for showing and saying that that's some hard work everyone thinks it looks so easy till their out there
That's just the tip of the iceberg, you have no idea the struggles these people go through on a daily basis, just remember any of our ancestors at one point in time were immigrants, we are all humans and immigration is part of the history of the world.
Pedro Mata if i do and get caught i pay the price and dont cry about it. I definitely dont when i have traveled out of the U.S.. those other countries jails arent near as nice as ours. They arent as nice to foreign criminals either.
Do you know how hard it is to go to Mexico illegally and demand free health care, welfare, food stamps and housing assistance? They would laugh at you and throw your a-- in jail..
I've picked lots of different fruit, sometimes 6-12 months straight. I lasted one day picking oranges. It's like a 12 hour straight intense workout, 6 days a week. The workers who do this are elite athletes.
@JoeEastern. I don't know how old you were when you did that work but it's only common sense that a twenty something is going to handle that work differently from a middle aged person.
I’m an immigrant myself. Coming here in the USA 54 years ago. As this blogger says, documented or not the people who work in the farm literally break their backs and farmers who hired them said that not one American last for a day doing this. How can people say that these immigrants are taken American jobs? They don’t want it in the first place.
This is exactly what we fail to understand as a country. If we didn't have good hardworking migrant workers doing this type of work, the average big mac at McDonald's would be $12 or something. I'm willing to bet 95% of these migrant workers are decent human beings with no criminal history that are just tying to work to support families. We should gather all the American prisoners doing life terms and send them to work the fields for free instead of wasting tax dollars rotting in prison. America needs migrant workers, anyone who disagrees should try working the field for 1 day to see what it's really like.
If it was prisoners doing all that work then conviction rates of bullshit crimes would soar through the roof, more black young men would be arrested and more things would be outlawed to allow more people to be put behind bars
@@MrJabbawockeekid2 They did that/are doing that already. Jim Crow Laws were designed specifically to create a new slave labor system. Put people in jail for not having money, then rent prisoners out to farmers and the farmer pays the jailers, in other words slavery. The 13th amendment allows involuntary servitude if the person is "duly convicted of a criminal offence". Well guess how easy it is to make people into criminals. It should be no surprise that the US has the highest number of people in jails in the fucking world.
It has been ages since I strapped an orange picking bag. I have lots of respect for a man like you to go and actively engage in something many wouldn't care to do and find what it really takes to do that kind of work. Many people are under the assumption that when we see those little watering sprayers in Safeway supermarkets come on that, that is where vegetables are grown. If they only knew what it takes to bring food from fields to our tables they would have a different view of the people who make it happen. Gracias Morgan Surlock
you have to be in good physical condition to make it as a fruit picker, the problem is most Americans are out of shape and fat making it difficult for them to do the job
core Cheng yes but the majority of them are workers over there while here most are just fat ass on disability or welfare. which I still don't see how that works.
i dont understand wy the cubanos dont work like mexican and theyr have all the benefits and they got paper easy and conplain about us. as e mexican we suffer alot and work hart to make a leaving here in us
Erwin Schrödinger Who's problem? I have a college career, my father picked fruit for 20 years. Should trade my 4k a month (salary) desk job for $50-$100 a day of back breaking work?
Erwin Schrödinger are u listening to yourself?? Mexicans get criticized because they are a supposed burden in society and now u wanna criticize someone because they actually worked hard and educated themselves??? No one gave him a degree he worked hard for it. Then u go on to say how mexicans are rasist ti N*? Are u dumb or something? Your the one calling them N* !!! Think before u talk.
Erwin shut the Fuck up with u last name I'm sure your ancestors came here to make a better living for theyre families rite? So we are ALL illigals some of us have papers some were born here I betyour family came here from way the fck out on the other side of the ocean WE MEXICANS are from the country next door AINT NO FCKN WALL IS EVER GONA STOP A MAN FROM TRYING TO GIVE HIS FAMILY A BET TE FUTURE
Cuba is a damn small Island compared to Mexico. Think about that. If you live in a small place you won't know much or do much. But if you live in a big country you'll do more and know more!
I've lived around Hispanics (mainly Mexican) ever since I moved from Ohio to AZ in 1987. In that time I've worked with and made friends with many of them, and yes I know people here without papers, and some that are legal but pay s huge fee every year to update their workers papers. One woman who is in fact a cousin to my kids has to pay every year because her parents brought her when she was but 3 or 4 yrs. Old, however they never fixed her paperwork although they got it. I feel for her, she could make it in Mexico maybe- but is scared to death to be sent away. She has 3 kids who barely speak Spanish and her eldest boy has autism. She's always worked hard and stayed out of trouble..yet many a Republicant would like nothing better than to send her back, because she broke the law coming over while she was a Toddler, but "a criminal is a criminal" was what someone on here wrote- there's no sugar coating it.😒 I've done some heavy labor jobs in my life but one I will never forget was working in Chandler Arizona picking cucumbers there was a sign up at the unemployment office when me and my ex were looking for work and they needed people that pick the fruit so besides me there was only two other white American people that were there everybody else was Hispanic and maybe a few native Americans thrown in - anybody could have went , the sign was there for anybody to see and go work but lot of people just don't want to do that work. And it is very hard after one day of doing it the next morning my legs are so sore and stiff I couldn't even bend them and I was almost crying and in pain so I got to give it up to those guys and ladies that do that hard work day after day after day , it really sucks! If I had no other options of course I would do it, but luckily I can get other jobs. For many of those people working farm labor jobs that's about as good as it's going to get. And iff I was from Mexico. Or any south American country Id take my chances and sneak into the U S or Canada as well! What other option is there? People can't wait around 5, 19 yrs when they are starving, sick, being threatened by the cops , Federalis or Cartel all the time. It's easy for these right wing zealots to say the migrants should come legally - the reality is much different when you live it.😢
Most the people who want them sent back, if they were in the shoes of Mexicans with all the cartels , kidnapping , killings, with the so little pay they give In Mexico they would come right over here just like immigrants do, sucks wish there was a better faster system in place for them to be able come and work over here a lot faster.not make it so expensive when it’s so to make good money In Mexico
Because you're a no-good fat ass and all whites and blacks need to get off their asses and step up to got plate and I'm busting my ass home my life you do hard work you get used to it so man up 💪💯
It's sad how these videos which such strong messages get no attention. These really show what immagrents go thru everyday of there lives in the US for Americans to still be discriminating against them after they do a job NOBODY WANTS TO DO.
Omar Ramirez you know what’s sad. Everyone picks on them too because they are the weakest they can’t vote mostly don’t understand English and marginalized as they are poor so they get scapegoat
Americans live in a fantasy world where their country is the best for opportunities not knowing what many immigrants have to go through just to make a living there. If Tump continues to have his way, they soon will realize how truly hard it is.
Lupitavenega attempted translation: "Excellent documentary. How good that there are such people in this world who are willing [to walk in our shoes for a day] to live as we live and earn a living as we do. God bless you."
I grew up on a farm and the work is HARD. I envied my school classmates who didn’t grow up on farms. They were in debate, cheerleading, sports, going on dates! We got up at 0500, did chores, took school buses in. My twin sister and I never had beautiful clothes, jewelry, makeup. We were outsiders. But I knew what hard work was like and we loved the seasonal workers. Such nice people! They became our families. When I hear ppl who have never worked outside in their lives badmouthing immigrants...well I’ve punched a few out. “Stealing American jobs? What a laugh!” Can you see the Trump family working ONE day milking cattle, picking produce, or stoop labor, picking beans, strawberries. These are GOOD people. Trump has made ppl hate them for absolutely NO reason. He’s a TOOL!
Thanks for Exposing the TRUTH that most are blind or refuse to see!!! My Dad was a Legal American from Mexico, because Mexico is in North America, picking oranges, tomato, Olives, avocados etc etc in California in the 70-80’s for 30+ years! One of the most hard working men i have yet to see. He is now 77 retired, but refuses to sit down and rest, he is always moving, he says he will surely die the day he stops working.. LOL . He looks 60 🙂
at 25 I picked apples in Australia for 4 months , yes 10 hours a day , hard work , work on Saturday mornings. I made $28 a bin , did 5.5 bins a day ( made it up by working Saturdays), 30 bins a week got me $800, which paid for my year in Austrailia. It was a grand job , but saw so many people complain only picking a bin or less a day
stan giles here in Michigan many of the farmers pay 9 dollars or less for a big wooden box ...mostly for apple juice and gerber baby food... I honestly wouldn't do it again unless they pay me more. And yes I was born here in America and worked in these types of jobs...its very hard on your body ..i have back problems and arthritis from picking since i was 14 years old i mean it would be raining in 30 degree weather and we still picked. Asparagus was the worst in 90 degree weather no breeze or shade from sun from 6 am till it was too dark to pick 9 pm or so... Some farmers treated us like crap threatening to fire us if we didn't finish picking even though it was dark and yell at us....i mean i experienced a lot of unfairness.. But anyways its made me who i am today. Im not just some ungrateful spoiled brat ...i appreciate everything i have even if its not much.
That is just not true. I worked on a farm in Pennsylvania in 1970's. They had strict laws in PA regarding migrant labor. The farm provided the housing and medical care. The crew boss provided food/meals, and transportation. What you made you kept. If you worked hard and didn't waste what you earned you could have a tidy amount of money at the end of the season. The workers were american born. Maybe the labor conditions are terrible because the state has the responsibility to set the rules about labor conditions.
USA government only permits to bring foreign workers to a farm once the farmer owner has filled they workers need with LOCAL WORKERS. You American guys have the first choice to get that jobs, the number of foreign workers that go to your country every year only depend on you. You shouldn't complaint about the foreign skilled workers, this is a very hard and sacrificed work, that only few people are able and willing to do it, if you don't believe me, just ask Morgan his opinion. Instead complaining you should respect them due to they are bringing food to your table.
I should respect them for bringing food to my table? They do it out of the kindness of their hearts, huh? No.. They get paid, for a service. So piss off with your "Respect"
Yadira Monjaraz Correction. He got paid that rate for his labor at far less pace than them. At the expected bucket yield he would have made $5.70 Doesn't mean it's a fair wage for the backbreaking labor they do, but if the rate were increased its likely they'd still do just as much of it but send more money home, rather than back off the pace a bit. Bear in mind that [for now] that money they send home has far more value there than it does here.
Jorge Pedret they drive the wages to shit. U.S. citizens dont live 15 people in a 3 bedroom house. If low wages weren't available they would pay more. Yes produce would go up but i would gladly pay it to support U.S. citizens. Also the guy they used was a whimp, i grew up farming you get used to the labor no different than playing sports your body adjusts to the demands
mike taylor If the wages went up then it would be like prices in Japan and Americans are not paying that. Japan can only really compete with fruit in the premium market and with protectionism. Americans would just buy foreign imports and American farms would go under. I can see cracking down on other sectors where Americans will do the work but just let them pick the fruit. Orange harvests can be mechanized so those jobs wouldn't exist if they got rid of the cheap labour.
Humans just like to talk and complain, very ungrateful, when God took the Israelites of slavery and led them to freedom they complain that they were free but hungry and staving so he gave them food then they complain that they can't eat the same food everyday...
@@fauxhawksexipapi Sometimes I wonder how people like you who have slime inside your cranium have thoughts coherent enough to type. I'm sorry that I made the mistake of looking at the garbage you spewed.
Did you miss the part that they're migrants and aren't even guaranteed a wage like a citizen would? Again, why raise the minimum wage to $15/hour when you can just get more visas and pay workers a fraction of an American.
It's both the job and the pay they are getting is the issue. Let's be realistic here no buddy would work in harsh conditions. No, one wants to work under 9 dollars it's not enough. The expense is too damn expensive to live in the United States. Some people I know still live in small apartments. And still are struggle because they work at retail, customer service, and factory jobs. Those places pay you crap ass money for sure. One of my friends works for a food packaging factory he still only makes $9.50 with no overtime pay. I am okay with my pay right now, I make about $11.75, plus $20.00 dollars for overtime. After taxes and all that I would get paid around 640 dollars a week.
thank you sir for getting a little bit into our world where some or many Americans say; We have come to take away their jobs, you already felt it in your own flesh, it is hard but to give our children a better future, or to buy or build a house we emigrate to these lands, it is true that many come fleeing as criminals; but not all I'm glad you did this so when you talk to your friends we earn a little respect and the racist Americans value our work that not everyone does it or maybe many try but they can't stand it like the h2A workers and still physically many don't They have the condition I needed to endure 10 and 12-hour days a day. I see colleagues cry from exhaustion and little by little they get used to it, others return, my respects, to those people who work in the fields and my respects to Parati for daring to work like a Mexican. God protect you always gringo brother.
Dude most of the produce exported from america to other continents are even more expensive. Try buying a bag of oranges or mandarins in japan or south korea for $5.
Competitive wages will get people to work.. but that means a dip in the corporate budget, so they will keep things illegal. Hey.. look at the bright side. Fruit and Veggies are cheap O_o
My father was legal throughout his entire time in the US, he picked fruit for 15 years. Once learned enough english he decided he was done with that inhumane industry. He would tell me all the messed up things illigals put up with just to avoid deportation... It's ok though Mexicans are proud and strong they've been through too much to give up now. Colonization, revolution, slavery, foreign military occupation, identity theft, mexican/american war, land theft, land extortion, civil war, racism, racial segregation, alienation, exploitation, persecution, deportation and so much more... How in the hell are we native americans immigrants in our own country?
if they got rid of all illegal immigrants food would rot in the fields. aren't nearly enough Americans or legal immigrants to do the jobs. and anyone with half a brain can see that it's American business that profit off the work of illegal immigrants that keep real comprehensive immigration laws from being passed. wouldn't want to have to pay a living wage to legal migrant laborers.
INDO KEREN Yeah what "American" is going to do all the work for 2.85 am hour and not quit after a day? I bet you a zillion dollars that no "American" would. Your food costs are going to soar when that disgusting bigot gets into office. Good luck to y'all!
I would like to try this one day. I work in the produce department of the grocery store I work at, and I've always wondered how it is to pick fruit. I bet I could handle it
i would love to do this one day.im mexican american ..watching this video reminds me of when me and my brother use to have to wake up early and go work with uncle and dad...
I suggest that the goverment let students to work in the farms during the summer. This will create better well educated citizens to cherish the value of an education.
That should be more published so the people who be telling immigrants to go back where they came from know that without these people the wouldn't be able to eat any food I know how hard citrus work is I grew up on a citrus farm
2of2)There is a moral need for subsidiarity to hire first domestic labor, even if it means some increase in the cost of food. There's a cultural element that seems real that people don't believe in honest work. I wouldn't mind a PSA for that. Honest work is valuable and pointing this out helps the work be more bearable and desirable. And, if we don't want a police state, we need to have laws that accommodate the time it takes to make changes and take pressure off of the police to focus them.
Not trying to be smart but why are the harvesting bags so big? It seems that to force people to climb ladders with those huge bags is cruel and wasteful. I used to pick fruit in Pennsylvania. We had canvas bags that held about 1/2 bushel, you just empty them more often and not so tiring. I was a 20 years old female and didn't have trouble picking and made what I thought was good money. A whole lot more in piece rate that I would have at a straight per hour wage.
