In 1838, Mormon apostle Parley P. Pratt prophesied that within 5-10 years there would be no Gentile government left on the American continent, and that within 50 years, there would be no Gentile left on the American continent. He said if these things do not happen, then the Book of Mormon would be proven false.

Problem is, the believers would say he was speaking as a man.

Now had it come true, then he was definitely inspired by God and being prophetic. Funny how they can always use that logic to justify anything.

They always use that tired line.

After those things didn't come true, Parley said ha I was just kidding. The same thing the Mormon church should say about all of its claims really.

You know, it's fascinating to me how little of the actual history of the church has been taught to its members. Most of the prophecy that has ever been given has proven to be false but we have never once heard about that as active members of this church. Never heard any of these things in any Sunday school class, conference talk, or any other Church manual or lesson. So thankful this channel exists!

Kind of like the prophecy of when Christ was going to return in 1890. These seers sure get their dates and prophesies wrong!

So an apostle prophesied that by 1888 the entire American continent would be LDS or the Book of Mormon would be proven wrong. Today the church says not to listen to dead prophets, only the living ones. Wonder what they’ll say in 20 years…

Another false prophecy

Pratt reckoned he knew the eventual fate of the Gentile population on the American continent, but Pratt was unable to predict his fate. Pratt was murdered on May 3, 1857 in Crawford County. Pratt didn't see that coming!

False Apostle Pro-Tip #13: Always date the fulfillment of your prophecy to shortly after you expect to be dead, so as to prevent anyone from using the Test of a True Prophet to discredit you.

If you guys think this is wild, you should read Parley Pratt's "100 Years Hence" pamphlet! He must have been on some serious drugs when writing that :)

Well…um…it’s about a hundred years maybe and it looks like the book of morons is most definitely without a doubt false.

Obviously when people are raised to this status of "prophet" and pronounce the variety of failed prophecies that have attended the LDS church over the years, it is inevitable that credibility becomes a growing problem. What can they do? Try to excuse themselves from his humanity, in this case, but how could those who appointed him be prophets and apostles themselves and not know? I think this is why so many TBM, pro-church channels and videos now can be summed up as "We're happy, we've had a positive witness / dream / impressions and therefore we know that the BOM and the church are true." The problem, of course, is that such a basis for faith and loyalty is taught nowhere in traditional Christianity. One always has to look to the odd ducks, the cults, the heretics, before this becomes a normative kind of argument and view.

Kinda like all the other "prophecies" that have come forth in the age of profits . . . I mean, prophets. Right?

Does the BOM in some way predict this? I know one of its major theses is that the remnant of the house of Israel (ie the Native Americans) will go through like a lion to either convince or destroy the gentiles. I'm pretty sure Jesus says this in the third book of Nephi, but it's said in different ways throughout. I was always confused when reading these portions. I thought, is this figurative? Literal? Has it already happened in some ways? Is it ongoing? Is it spiritual only? Seems as if the early saints took these passages literally and believed them to be in the not-too-distant future. Can someone corroborate that this is what the BOM really says?
