Most of my Parks on the Air (POTA) activations are QRP at 5 watts. It's fun to change it up every now and then! This morning I decided to bring out my Yaesu FT-891 along with the Chelegance MC-750 antenna and do a 100 watt activation. Good times!
Thank you for joining & 73!

Im just a listeningstation, i have a bunch of radios, but no license hehe, but i enjoy listening, my main tranciver is a Yaesu Ft 897d :) i realy enjoy the Chinese tiny qrp radios since they have cw practice mode, and are inexpencive, i can just trow one i my bag with a smal powerbank and a speakerwire antenna. 73 from LA-M160560 Norway

Very cool! Radio is a fun hobby with many ways to enjoy it. Small QRP radios are really fun, I tend to collect them myself. It's fun to see how tiny of a kit you can make while still being effective. Thanks for watching!

Well heads up, I’m planning to activate tomorrow some time around lunch my time, so 9 or 10 AM your time probably. I plan to start on 10m and work my way up to 20m, so there’s a good possibility of us being able to get a contact!

Those pileups got pretty intense! I had better stick with QRP!
@w4arb
@w4arb 7 месяцев назад
Hah! They certainly did. It’s fun sometimes, but QRP yields me plenty of contacts too and is much more relaxing.

The QRO and 20 meters made our contact today a breeze. A nice treat for me before heading out to my activation. --n1bs

Always great to get you in the log! It’s fun to crank it up sometimes. Certainly makes it faster paced than QRP. Hope you had a good activation too! 73

How does the MC-750 hear? If it hears somewhat equal to a ss17 with 12 radials I’m interested in getting one hehe 73!
@w4arb
@w4arb 7 месяцев назад
It’s great! It’s basically the same thing as the SS17, but comes with everything ready made to deploy and go, plus a 40m coil. Plus the band marks on the whip are super helpful. I also have the optional 80m coil, so i can do 80-6 with it. It comes with 4 radials, and that’s what I use. but it’s easy to add more.

Nice to hear you 579 in PA this morning. I had a feeling you were QRO this morning. I do mostly QRP activations but lately been using my IC 7100 in the car with higher power. The pile ups are fun, but I actually decided to swap the IC 7100 and brought it into the house and going to use the IC 705 in the car for future winter activations because I miss the QRP challenge. Happy New Year. 73 de KN3A.

Thank you for the contact! Completely agreed, QRP is both more challenging and relaxing. Catch you on the air again soon! 73

hihi is 100 watts cw overkill?

Great question! It just depends on what your goal is. When doing something like a Parks on the Air activation, CW with 100 watts just means that my signal will be a bit stronger and more stations will be able to hear me. It makes the activation faster pace, and typically results in a higher count of contacts. It also results in larger equipment, especially batteries. I typically operate with 5 watts which results in a slower pace that I find more relaxing. It's fun both ways, just depends on what my goal is for the day.
