The older you get the more you understand this song. Nothing matters no big houses, no amount of money, nothing apart from people & love.

Don’t apologize for crying!! I don’t understand how anyone could watch this video and not shed a tear! Especially the moment at the end when he touches the piano… gets me every time!!

The moment at the end when he touches and closes the piano reminds me of him shutting a casket, saying good bye.

Johnny's delivery is just brutally honest, open and vulnerable.

As a video and film editor, all I can say is, wow! Beyond the poignancy of Cash here, the editing in its own right is just brilliant.

Trent Reznor has become a Legend thru the Legend of Johnny Cash and that imo is freaking divine justice

I have yet to hear anyone speak on the visuals in the video and how it shows the setting sun, as in the end of life, and the scenes changing with every hit of the piano key, meaning how time goes by faster when you are older.

One of the most powerful videos ever made, coupled with an amazing cover. What makes it so powerful is that it's real. Credit to not only Johnny but also to Trent, Rick Rubin and Johnny's daughter, who convinced him to do the video.

Good, bad, or indifferent we are the sum total of our life's experiences. Aulter one, you change the whole. I've learned to cherish my sorrow as much as my joy. How can you truly know the heights of your joy if you know not the depths of your sorrows?

To me, this is about the regrets you have about your life mistakes. Being willing to give up all you have achieved, to count it as dirt, just to be able to restore damaged and lost relationships.

Johnny Cash sang about Jesus often throughout his career as did his wife. And the most emotional part of the song is when he images Christ being crucified, knowing that his sins were some of those that Jesus was paying for with every strike of the hammer. Johnny Cash and his wife firmly believed in the reality of the old saying “Only one life, it will soon be passed, only what’s done for Christ will last.“ I am an old ex fighter who still teaches fighting and I still cry every time I watch it because of its sobering reality and beauty. Thanks for your heartfelt reaction.

I saw this for the first time waiting to get on a conference call. I didn’t know the history of the songvand video, but I grew up with Johnny Cash, so I knew his story. I couldn’t pull it together for the call! My CFO asked if I was ok, and I mentioned I just saw this the first time, and he knew exactly what was happening, he had been similarly affected by it lol. But yes, this is profound, so well done. Johnny’s final curtain

I’ve watched 100s of reactions and this is the first time someone noticed the opening and closing of the piano (which the opening of the piano is reflective of “I hurt myself again/the needle tears a hole”) earned a sub from me

I loved your reaction. It did the same thing to me. Makes you think (at any age I guess). I'm a middle aged grandmother and have already lost one parent, and my family is starting to bury aunts and uncles, and it makes you think about your own mortality as well. It would be just so sad and humbling to finally realize what is important in life, but knowing that you have realized it later than you should have.

I had never thought about the opening and closing the piano as bookends, but now that you mention it, it's clearly intentional. You saw the closing of the piano as closing a chapter. I had seen it as the close of a life, which, even in the closed context of the video, it is. But I also already knew when I heard it the first time that it was the last song Johnny Cash recorded. And June standing on the stairs watching, worried, is heartbreaking. This is among the very best covers I've ever heard. The two versions are different in every way, but both are completely faithful to the song. The song is about different things for the two singers, so in a sense it becomes a different song. Trent Reznor was 28 when he released his original. It could not possibly be the same kind of summing up that Johnny delivered. Trent's version has none of the resonance of Johnny's version. Trent was singing about a very brief time, and he did that perfectly. And that completely personal re-interpretation is what makes Johnny Cash's "Hurt" a great cover of a great original. I love both of them.

Immediate like because you know Johnny didn´t wrote it but owns it by the original creators approval. And even I´m kind of a pychopath, I don´t understand any of those psychopaths and sociopaths reacting to this song on youtube showing no emotions at all. But than, I´m not really a psychopath just an authistic guy with high iq who always just thinks retionally even when it will come off colder than granit taken out straight from a freezer. I´ve learned to understand at least some emotions and empathy.

Great reaction. I read an interview with Johnny's Daughter Roseann who said when her Father showed her the video for the first time she was horrified with the images but she said Johnny was beaming because her understood he had made true great art.

A great and honest reaction to a very raw performance. For another very emotional song, if you haven't heard it, listen to Mötorhead's 1916. Sabaton did a really good cover, but the more polished vocals doesn't come close to matching the emotional impact of the original. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-izyDOGpBc40.htmlsi=pZceK2INoCHxzwlS

Actually that was his mother in the picture, but yes, that was June who came downstairs to check on him. A poignant shot that wasn't supposed to be in the video but was left in, thankfully. This video has touched me like no other video ever made.
