This! I love Prince, but I love Morris as well. I got excited when I saw he was being interviewed , but hell its all about Prince. Its good to know inside stuff, but still!
Ok I thought it was just me like ok this man is an Artist himself but you made the whole interview about Prince..Morris was humble though he gave him the interview he wanted without being bitter about it
I watched the entire interview. Morris's humility is otherworldly. He's extremely articulate, thoughtful, genuine. He seems to not have a pretentious bone in his body. Very refreshing interview from him.
Listening 2 the audio book. Idk if I would of dealt with Prince. There r 3 sides 2 a story but man 2 hear Morris give all the props 2 Prince shows growth. Hate how the estate is jerkin him
No doubt, if you know something say something. John Lennon’s killer cornered James Taylor in a subway the day before John was murdered and was talking about “meeting” John but James never mentioned it to John.
Duane Baldwin Yes, this is so true. It’s like they are trying to tell you something but you sometimes completely miss it, until it’s too late. It’s happened to me, and you just look back and think, why didn’t I see it coming...
I still don’t believe Prince had a drug problem in terms of wanting to get high. I believe he had chronic pain (stories of being unable to play guitar because his hands hurt too much & hip replacement) and over medicated himself.
I agree. I remember having braces put on and off, tightened and changed. My mouth was hurting so bad that I wanted to take 10 pills because I thought the recommended dose was not doing enough. Couldn't imagine what it'll feel to have hip pains and trying to walk.
I agree. I feel he was trying to relieve his self from his pains not taking drugs to abuse them. Media loves to take things and turn it to a negative. I hate when that happens. No one knew how much pain Prince was in. The world just wants to classify him as a abusive drug user. That is sad.
Prince said he told Judith hill his hand hurts and she she said stop taking those pills he said no I can't if so then I can't play anymore than if I can't play I rather die if I can't play anymore he said he was going to focus on playing piano instead of the guitar
Damn this katt knew prince since High School? I bet that sh*t DID hit like a ton of bricks fam! 40+ years bro he may as well have been your brother. Rip
They were brothers. Back in the day, we were all we had...every neighborhood, every high school, every person had a road dog, and a stack of records to inspire you to do whatever you wanted to do .... that was how it was back then...
He really does. I am always so conflicted watching his interviews because he does get interviews from non-mainstream people who have something to say but on the flip side, he's condescending, arrogant and he's interrogating them like he's officer Vlad. I like seeing the people being interviewed but Vlad always has to be extra and add his whatever to the interviews and i get sick of that.
It was the first time he said it, but Morris already knew. Most people have relatives and or friends in their life and you just know based on your experiences. Sometimes you don't say it because as men we are taught if you say that you love someone, you're soft.
Orrrr....the Midwest had a severe problem with accidental fentanyl overdoses because fake stuff laced with that shit was being mixed in with the real stuff and there was no way to tell the difference. Lots of people have died that way and still do
Just for a little clarity, Prince became dependent on painkillers due to a hip surgery (he injured his hip landing a jump splits dance move during a concert) and had been using a stylized cane to walk for a few years, but he kept performing and relied on the pills to get him through. He died from an accidental Fentanyl overdose. He wasn't using the drugs recreationally, it was actually for pain relief but he took too much and it caused an irregular heartbeat and respiratory failure.
Orrrr....the Midwest had a severe problem with accidental fentanyl overdoses because fake pills laced with that shit were being mixed in with the real stuff, and there was no way to tell the difference. Lots of people have died that way and still do. He didn't have this problem with the other stuff years prior.
Wow! Had to shed a tear on this one. The whole interview with Morris Day is probably one of my most favorite VLAD interviews by far. I'm definitely getting the book! RIP Prince
I could sit in a chair behind him fir hours and just listen to him tell stories about his career. Reminds me of my brother; can tell a story straight but half the time you're laughing at the visuals of the scene he's describing.
Same thing. Still a drug problem when you use drugs against doctor's orders. Not saying he was wrong for trying to fight the pain. But whether recreational or medically habit formed, it's still addiction.
I saw Prince for the first time live at the Forum in Inglewood on April 21, 2011. He was 52 years old, and looked and moved like he was no older than 38. I was blown away that a man of his age and accomplishment was still putting on a show like he had something to prove. Three hours of showmanship at the highest level. Exactly 5 years later to the day, he was dead. Crazy.
Tyka said that prince told her back in 2014 that he came to do all he wanted to do so prepare yourself and take care of my home ... prince already knew ahead of time he didn't have much time left to do much in the next two more years
@@thepromiseman7745 a lot of people look at Tyka sideways cus they don't know how honest she's being. From what I've heard they were never really super close, at least not how she makes it seem.
@@theDavidChannel1 I really can't judge her of what she said but she said that what he told her ..I wasn't there so that's his sister so I know that they were never kinda close but he helped her during her hard times struggle with drugs ..so I'm not the one to say because idk what prince could of have told her
I am glad they reconciled... Prince had his prickly moments but the Time was legit amazing, and Morris and company made the most of it. I am SO SO glad Prince and Morris ending on good terms and nothing was left unsaid. As it is a awful experience when someone passes and you wish you could of told them how you felt about them.......
The clouds had a purplish hue to them that tragic day, and a huge rainbow appeared over Paisley Park. I will never forget that. Then later that night, about 100,000 of us gathered downtown and celebrated his life in the streets near the club that helped start it all, First Avenue. R.I.P. the G.O.A.T.
I still believe Prince was targeted by The Powers that be! Morris knows it but can’t say anything! Prince has his masters & was ready to take his music which he owned 100% to another level!
He had a habit. I wish I could blame somebody else, but I really just can’t convince myself of that. He’d been experiencing terrible pain and was struggling. May he RIP, he’s my favorite.
Orrrr....the Midwest had a severe problem with accidental fentanyl overdoses because fake stuff laced with that shit was being mixed in with the real stuff and there was no way to tell the difference. Lots of people have died that way and still do
Prince was always my favorite. Not because we shared the same birthday or the fact that he died on my daughter's birthday but because he was too funky! R.I.P.
I'm from the Eastcoast and went to college in Minnesota in 81' when all these guys were just starting to get big. Many of my college friends went to high school and grow up on the same street and neighborhood with these guys. They would often talk about them. I really wasn't into the Minneapolis sound and personalities of that music at that time. In retrospect (today) it's really good to see how solid of a person Morris Day is. The brother seems to have a genuine spirit and honest quality. The interviewer should interview Morris Day for his talents and contributions to the Minneapolis music seen and not just an appendix of Prince. He was extremely talented and his band the Time were equal to Prince's band on some levels.
Listening to Morris speaking on this, I cannot help but feel Prince knew he was going to die soon and wanted to have his own type of closure. One being telling Morris how much he meant to Prince. Prince even invited Madonna to P's place and had some words with her whom he hasn't spoken to for years, but at one time were friends. I also feel the death of Vanity and her dying on the same month and day but different year as Prince's beloved mother passing was the catalyst of Prince wanting to end his life. Prince had chronic physical pain, but the death of Vanity as I stated on the same day and month but different year of his beloved mother, was more painful than the chronic physical pain itself.
Morris knows what he's talking about. VLAD sometimes seems to be clueless when it comes to many subjects. Morris is 100% correct when he says that it is easier for a person to overcome drug addiction when they're younger as opposed to being in their 50s. It's not impossible; it's just much easier when you're younger.
Vanity passed away around that same time…Prince must’ve been very sentimental no matter what his persona and like any artist, inspired by Love. You have to believe the effect you can have on a person
I really appreciate these interviews that have to do with Prince Vlad. You've done them before but i hope you can continue to bring more insight about him through interviewing those who were around him. Nobody else does what you do. Everybody else just interviews what is hot at the moment. You are unique. Please continue doing you. Again...I appreciate you and what you do man. #Salute #Respect #VladTv
Morris must understand...he was not experiencing chronic hip pain at 25. So there was no need for the use fentanyl or opioids. Great insight and interview though Morris. You’re the only one that keeps it real about Prince and keep it that way brutha.
This video and the Matthew Knowles video are the most professional videos in the Vladtv catalog. Omarion video is one of the most articulate videos, but his transparency is nowhere near the the openness of Morris Day.
That was my reaction when I walked into the CNN food court and saw it on the big screen. I thought it was someone working there or a partygoer. Then my phone started blowing up. No lie. Everyone who’s ever know me knew what Prince meant to me. Obviously didn’t know him, but you couldn’t tell my crying eyes that.
This guy gives a excellent performance t went to my first show about 9 years ago I can honestly say they gave the best live performance that I had seen of any group ever...trust and belive I will be at the next one if they come to town.
I think prince actually knew his time was up and he was actually putting all his differences aside because he was letting Morris day know without saying it out that this was his last Goodbye ..he just wanted to let Morris day know that all they been through and everything that he loves him like a brother
Prince suffer from chronic hip problems he had a few operations he did not wake up one morning and say I want to do drugs. because it gets me high the brother was in pain.
Exactly I tell folks the samething its not like he was on Coke and Crystal. He had been performing in Heels for years holding guitars and basses. Not to mention the countless hrs of rehearsals. With a unmatched work ethic
And they leave out that he was murdered basically. He tght he was taking regular hydrocodone, the pill. If you look it up by the shape and number it was that BUT 5he actual ingredients were a deadly, deadly form of Fentanyl. Prince had a so much fetanyl in him that it would kill an 2 elephants making it impossible for him to have knowingly ingested.
No different than the situation so many millions of Americans have gone through thanks to corrupt medical and pharmaceutical industries which took people in pain and DESTROYED them, thereby creating the atmosphere for the opioid epidemic which is STILL ravaging this country.
Love this story.. finally Morris got some closure.. Better late than never...I so can relate to what Morris saying glad it happened but so needed it earlier in life. but again better late than never.
I would've loved seeing Prince and Morris Day perform together on the same stage. It would've been awesome if they performed together at one of the Super Bowls during halftime.
Man them guys. I am so glad they had that moment. It is sad that we have these histories together with our friends and we rarely tell them we love them. I do tell them now because you never know.
@@steveshowtime MJ did the same thing. Not even gonna get into this. Prince did not have the impact on the music industry MJ had. And that isn't even a debate, that's a fact
@@Thedearster what musical instrument did he play? It is a debate that's why you commented in the first place? Thats not a fact only an opinion. I actually like MJ Prince more but give me facts. Lol
I saw Prince during his 1999 tour while I was in high school. As a major Prince fan I wanted to forever savor those memories. I decided to never go to another Prince concert, which I did not. My fondest memories will forever be the early to late 80's. Hip Hop was birthed during that time period as well. I saw Run D-M-C in my high school gymnasium. The memories are priceless.
Such a humble man. He loved and respected Prince. Like a Big Brother. All he said that Prince put him thru he still stayed loyal 100%. Thats Homie Love.
It was really sad the struggle he hid was so much deeper and so so heart breaker he def battled it alone stuck in his head most of the time 💔 he knew it was coming but the reassurance he wanted others to have
Gemini (Prince) and Sagittarius (Morris) form a really amazing relationship. They are highly compatible with each other and work together very well. Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have any troubles in their partnership, but they solve their problems quickly. Sagittarius are energetic and innovative, and Gemini’s intellectual strength enhances their relationship and enlivens their experiences. Both signs adore novelty. Gemini are flexible and indecisive, and Sagittarius understand all facets of a situation except the most obvious one. Neither star sign are idle by nature, and both are always involved in one endeavour or another. Gemini and Sagittarius in general have a fervent, intense relationship. Their friendship: when it’s good, is amazingly good; but when it’s bad, is horribly bad. There’ll always be tempestuous debates and wounded pride in the relationship, especially because of the polarity of these two star signs. The partnership is inherently competitive by nature; and there’s always a question of who’s the leader, either directly stated or indirectly implied.
Morris Hayes (NPG keyboards), Morris Day and Sheila E. are all Sagittarians, and the three of them had the longest professional relationships with Prince, out of all his collaborators. It makes sense: Sagittarius rules Prince's second house, of Values, Money, and Resources, together with the natural complementary aspects of the Gem/Sag opposition you cite, giving Prince a soft place to land via their humor, familiarity and reliability(although MD did not have as intense a work ethic as Sheila and Mr. Hayes). Adored Prince-he was a year older than me, and born the same week as my artsy, Gemini older sister. Life has lost its quotient of purple magic since he passed: there aren't any equals/replacements on the horizon, either.
