Here is a quick look at how to inspect, service and adjust the brakes on a Morris Minor. I am showing this on my own 1954 Morris Minor restoration project. For not a lot of time spent, a significant difference was made to the braking performance on this classic car.
SUBSCRIBE to my channel to keep up to date with all that is happening on the Morris Minor, Land Rover Series 3 restoration and MGB restoration. Also the Toylander build that is coming along very nicely!!!

Like the new format of the videos. Great to see you are a real person. I could handle even more detail and maybe less bumcrack. Keep it up old chap......and the trousers.👍

Hoped you had covered reconnecting emergency brakes after wheel cylinder replacement. Someone gave me the idea should wait till after bleeding to reconnect hand brake, any opinions ? Thank you in advance! Morris Loving Dave👍
@restosaga
@restosaga 9 месяцев назад
I suppose it makes sense to leave them disconnected until bleeding has been completed but I’d need to check the manual to be sure. Thanks for watching!

Noted that you don't have the 'beehive' springs fitted, which are intended to keep the shoes held against the back plate.
@restosaga
@restosaga 3 года назад
You are correct Berni. They were not present when I disassembled the car so I never fitted them again!
@bernicarey4953
@bernicarey4953 3 года назад
@@restosaga Some people do leave them off, simply because they are difficult to fit, but they do have a purpose. I guess it's a balance between difficulty and function. All cars with Drums/Shoes have sprung clips, but they're not usually as difficult as the 'beehives' to work with. If not fitted the outer (side) metal edge of the brake shoe can rub against the brake drum and in extreme cases wear through the drum. BMC fitted the beehive springs to eliminate any possibility of that happening. This only applies to the rear shoes.
@restosaga
@restosaga 3 года назад
Thanks Berni, I wasn’t aware of all that!

Is there a rubber plug for the hole in the drum ? Cheers

Hey, thanks for the video. Just got a quick question when you refurbished your Morris did you get your steering redone? As looks mint if so where as I want to get mine done. Thanks
@restosaga
@restosaga 3 года назад
Hi, thanks for watching! Do you mean the steering wheel? I didn't get mine refurbed, it's actually a little cracked but I do believe it is possible to get them done. Sorry I can't be of more help though!

Do you think that the morris would be a good learner car? I was thinking of lowering it and widening the track a bit And do you know if you can fit hydraulic brakes?
@restosaga
@restosaga 3 года назад
I think they make a great starter classic, yes. Would go modifying unless you’re prepared to pay higher insurance premiums! They have hydraulic brakes as standard.

hi would you say the earlier minors are better made than the late ones?
@restosaga
@restosaga 3 года назад
I suppose it depends what you’re looking for. I think they’re better in terms of classic design and individuality but the later ones are better from a development perspective and parts supply.

Can someone please explain the difference between a ‘53 and a ‘54 model
@restosaga
@restosaga 3 года назад
Sorry, but I’m not enough of an expert to answer your question in any degree of detail. Hopefully someone here can help you though!
@Scrubworks
@Scrubworks 3 года назад
There is no difference at all. Both had the cheesegrater grille, the 803 engine, and were splitscreen with the early dashboard. Apparently some of the very last 54s got the later slatted grille for the 1955 model year, but they've got to be pretty much non-existent now if they ever did exist in the first place.

The wheels and grill would look better in silver/gray helps break up the black,there's too much of it.
@restosaga
@restosaga 4 года назад
As per my previous replies Louis, I agree about the grille but the wheels should be black as original
@Scrubworks
@Scrubworks 3 года назад
It's actually better on these earlier cars to keep the wheels body-colour, partly because it's original, but mostly because it sets them apart from all the later Minors which all had cream or silver wheels.
@restosaga

I agree!
