Thank you for the great information about your Webcore stereo as well as your restoration process. It seems like your changer will touch the edge of the record to see the record size, and automatically change the tonearm dropping point as well as the speed. Well, great one!!

Before you replacing the turntable changer, you can do some test. 1) Replacing the needle. 2) Clean the volume and other controller pod with contact cleaner. At least you want to do these 2 thing in order to find out the reason why the sound is so small. Here is a link for the contact cleaner. amzn.to/2uQH27N

Red, Green, and brown could be the audio. Right Left and ground. Black one, I can not tell you what it is since the information is too little to image your audio system.

Hi, Rachel. Most turntable changer will be easily repaired by removing old dried out grease, and applying new oil and grease. Some of the parts of your turntable changer is frozen because of this dried up grease. Take a time and enjoy restoring your precious Silvertone.

If you are asking about grease, I elliptically use white lithium grease like this one. amzn.to/2YxS2Rh

When I try to find the needle, I always remove the changer from the base, and see the reverse side of the changer. There are 2 to 3 stickers there, and one of them is model number. With this changer model number, you can find the alternative needles.

Most console stereo has a great sound because of its solid wooden body. By the way, I found vintage RCA console stereo and speakers inside have cover on them. That cover will push the sound forward and make sound Lauder and great. goo.gl/hXA10y

Hi, thank you for your comment and sharing information. When the turntable changer is out of the horizontal level, sometimes I found that needle skipped a lot. And as you said, weight must be checked for the best sound. Teddy

When these skip like this, I usually assume they are gummed up. There is a lot of linkage in the sense mechanism that can get sticky.

Vintage record players do have a problem with skipping on newer (post 1978) records. They all do. It's about the older cartridges' compliance level, not about the changer itself. You can play old records on new turntables, but not vice versa. Unless your record collection consists only of original prints of old records, you should steer clear of vintage equipment. New turntables are readily available and not all that expensive. Modern audio amps do not usually have a 'phono' jack anymore, so there are turntables now that have the pre-amp so you can just plug it in to a standard "AUX" jack. If you have a turntable without a pre amp, you can just buy a pre amp to put between the turntable and the amplifier.

I like the system that automatically find the size of the record. However, Magnavox changer is more advanced than BSR. Thanks for the comment.

Magnavox never made stereos for any other company.

You can find out the turntable changer's exact model number reverse side of the changer. There are stickers about it. The console itself, if there is no sticker on the wooden body, you need to guess from which maker made yours.

You're kidding, right? Magnavox was like the Corvette of home audio, and Morse was like Chevette. Magnavox's low end units were better than Morse's high end ones. This thing in the video isn't even worth restoring.

BTW, Magnavox changer mechanisms had about 3 major moving parts and were admired for their reliability.

+D F Repair it if necessary and enjoy it. Put it on Craigslist or eBay if you're committed to getting rid of it. Please don't just junk it. I've seen people actually fit Bluetooth to these things and put them back into service. I'd offer bo buy it from you but there are two problems - I already have three consoles (and my wife has promised terrible things if I bring home another, and I'm NOT parting with my AstroSonic), and I have no idea if you're nearby or not.If you sell on eBay, specify local pickup only, because shipping these things is a serious hassle.

You want to check the spring is still ok, and thread is strong enough to hold against pulling force. Check all the pulley is in good working condition, and do not forget to turn the thread 2 to 3 times on the tuning shaft. Apply grease between needle parts and edge of the tuning panel, check the tension of the thread. If the tension is right, it won't slip. Hope you will be able to restore your Soundesign tuner. Teddy

You can buy cartridge either Amazon or Ebay. The old turntable uses not half inch 2 screws type but single screw mount type. So if you buy half inch cartridge, you need to have adapter for single screw mount.

If I still own this morse console stereo, I will tell you exact cartridge and needle info. However, I already sold it, so I can not see the cartridge as well as needle for this one. But you can always find your own cartridge and needle by yourself. Best way is find vintage cartridge from ebay. But as you said universal cartridge will be fine unless you have or create adapter for the half inch cartridge. I believe you know that there are different mount type of cartridge. For the vintage and for this one, you need half inch type but not p-mount type. The half inch type needs 2 screws to attache it to the shell. However, vintage one tend to have only one screw to hold cartridge.
