Mortal Kombat 1 is here and one of the most important aspects of MK1's gameplay is the Kameo System! They are basically assists, yet so much more than a mere assist. They are as defining to your gameplay experience as your actual main character, so lets look through the entire roster of Kameo characters, explain to you what they do and what they are all about to help inform your choice on which one you may want to play!

Due to overwhelming demand, here is Choose your Kameo! The companion video the the "Choose a Main" video! Your Kameo choice is just as important to the gameplay as the proper character you choose, so in this video let me go over all the Kameo characters and what they can offer to you and your gameplay! For the really big vids if you can spare a like it would be greatly appreciated, and otherwise dig in and hope you enjoy the video and hope it helps!

I'd love to see an optimal main + kameo guide; like a general guide for which Kameo character(s) pair well with each Main Roster character. If I had to choose which way to do it, I'd probably wanna list off every main roster character and then which Kameo pairs in the *most optimal way* with said character. That way, it's not super dragged out; it'd probably be about the same length as the Pick Your Main video because you'd only be highlighting the single most optimal Kameo choice for each Main Roster character. Just a suggestion. Loving your MK1 content so far!

@@Butterfree_haterthere’s been a lot of reptile, and smoke. A few sub zeros, reikos and raidens. 1 shao, 2 raidens, and one mileena. Vast majority of people are running sareena

My head canon is that Stryker is just in his car while you fight, and when you call him in, he combat rolls out of the car and comes to your aid

Striker with smoke is insane because smoke already has a tonne of mixups, but then you add striker and he’s got even more it’s crazy.

Something to note if you pick Shao with Jax as the kameo you get the most HP in the game at 1200

@@stever089 just depends how you use your kameos and what you're trying to do. Motaro is really good and makes a perfect kameo for Shao. Goro is good if you're trying to apply constant pressure. But I've seen people use Jax and dominate if he's used right. Sareena is people's go to for the 4 projectiles and because it's "safe". But for someone like Shao I personally use Kung Lao because he's damn near broken.

@wh1tew0lfalpha yes I watch the tutorial on all over the cameos and I'm not sure on who I should get for Baraka who is my main by the way. I have been using Toro it's been going pretty dang good but I just whooped a nitera as le Mei with a kano but was not impressed vs goro. I guess Jax hurts everyone and some give bonus hp!?! It's a Meta we shall learn

Words cannot express the gratitude I have for the fighting game community and for this breakdown. I'm shopping around for characters and kameos to play, looking for good combos. I played Tanya a bit before I jumped over to Reptile, didn't spend too much time on her. Trying to make Motaro work, having fun with Cyrax. It can be overwhelming and high execution to pull off some of these combos. Here you are breaking down Scorpion with Tanya and find her back 3 4 4 string that combos with Scorpion's ambush, and now I have an incredibly flashy combo I can pull off with 2 Scorpion flame ambushes and her air teleport when she's fully charged. I don't know how long it would've taken me to discover that myself. This game is incredibly satisfying when you can pull off all this crazy stuff. I can't thank you enough for showing off all this!

The scaling is pretty tough in this game. Really makes the neutral game of the Kameos the bigger focal point.

Thats the thing, already I see most people just focusing on getting an extra 5-7% damage like its the be all end all. Its way more important to be able to get that hit to begin with. The guy who gets 2 clean hits for every 1 you get is gonna win a lot faster even if your combo does a bit more damage, neutral is super important (and part of the reason why I think lao's hat toss is so busted)

Kameos are trash imo. I really wish they had just made this a 1v1 because the characters are so well done this time! And c1 is op af again. I really like how everybody plays though...Sareena needs to die.

breakaways are super rare in this game because your offensive and defensive meter are the same now and you have one less bar @@Beanpolr

Some of the Kameos I'm most interested in trying out are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Jax, and Motaro. I think Sub-Zero's Ice Armor is gonna be crazy, considering it's an "Ambush" assist, it can easily be set-up while doing anything with little to no consequence before your opponent knows it. Of course, there's a lot of other crazy broken stuff that're bound to happen in competitive play.

I am very happily overwhelmed. And I value individuals such as yourself for helping me digest all this wacky stuff. Initially I was very much one of the people who were a bit irked at the concept of kameos and thought they visually "goofed" up the game. But after watching this video I'm genuinely excited about all the accessibility and imagination this system brings. You forgot to mention with shujinko that if youre fighting Shang tsung the down back move turns shujinko into shang tsungs kameo which i find extremely interesting

I think these kameos are really beginner friendly compared to the more traditional tag team style of fighting games that I'm used to, it serves as a great gateway for new players. It simplifies the decision making process, relieves you of the burden of learning two extra characters, all the while keeping the gameplay mostly the same(as in, a driver and two assists, in this case a summon and an ambush) I think they're pretty neat, great decision by the netherrealm team. It won't make me buy the game but I really appreciate it from an outside perspective.

They are massive, for the entire roster, and came out 2 days apart, after the soft launch, and before the official fuckin release. I've been using a lot of Shao and Sareena and she definitely makes up for a lot of his weaknesses. Even just her fireball is useful enough given how slow and reactable his ground quake is, but he can also get a meterless launcher from his F1,2,2 string (which starts with a 10 frame mid I think) in the corner by cancelling into her flash kick. Haven't had the best of luck with waking up with Shao's armoured move either, so she's great! Can't wait to test out Motaro when I unlock him.

As an Ashrah player, I initially gravitated towards Frost cuz ngl freeze being a low combo starter is insane (cuz then I can mixup folks with overhead/low combo starters with either f4,2 or f4, Kameo But seeing Kung Lao's low being plus on block got me to consider him as an option as well

Agreed, Ashrah main as well. The frost assist is amazing for her since you convert forward 2 into full damage with low freeze but I do now want to try Kung Lao to see how good the pair is!

I pick my cameo for style reasons. im using shang tsung and goro because its the set up to the final boss of the og mk and the combos are not bad. My real main was always quan chi so im happy he will return at some point down the road.

33:50 Holy crap, I didn't know you could do that lol. Darrius is my favourite Kameo to use, but I was struggling to get that overhead to connect (as you can only do the follow-up if it hits, or on block). I think you just saved me Roofle lmao

Something else very useful about darrius, for certain characters he might be the best throw assist in the game. Smoke for example can back throw into darrius' neutral assist and get a 1 meter or fatal blow combo for about 26%. Jax and Cyrax have to spend 2 bars for less or comparable damage on their front throws

They do different things for different characters. Johnny for example can benefit from the ice armor that blocks projectiles.

I remember playing as Geras and Darrius. I did the regular Time Stop move and called Darrius by accident and his Tornado Kick stunned the opponent after the final hit. I couldn't combo off it since I didn't know it would do that.

One fun thing about Cyrax is that you can spend two bars on his throw and it'll pop the opponent up for a full combo.

Cyrax kameo throw gives a free combo that doesnt cost any kameo meter and can be done when his meter is depleted, idk if its glitched but its kinda crazy you can even call him out for the combo following the launch. Really strong on strike/throw characters.

I think its a testament to this game that I can hear what your talking about with each kameo and immediately think up "Would cyrax-copter be able to do this on X & Y block string while still being an extension on hit?" or "So kung lao can let me run mixups that are plus on block when setup correctly?" It really speaks to how creative this game can be just under the hood.

It would be hilarious if they gave the Kano Kameo sausages as skins for his knives, referencing his famous "Would you settle for me sausauge" line from his interaction with Skarlet.
