I don’t think Mortal Kombat Annihilation is better by a technical standpoint, but I’d still prefer to watch it just because it’s fucking ridiculous and I found it to be more entertaining.
I agree, finally MK has something worthy of cinematography. The 2021 reboot was much better than the previous movies, better graphics and there was much story telling spanning centuries and a considerable amount of signature finishing moves. They had a good cast. Sub Zero had great scenes, excellent moves and Kano stole the show with his witty dialogue and constant nuisance to everyone else. Liu Kang's fire power display was a nice delight throughout the movie, he seemed quite advanced in his ability to control his powers. Overall, I think the movie balanced dry humour, dark comedy and action scenes really well. Kabal was a surprise guest fighter, he compliments Kano really well. Kung Lao was clearly the more senior of all the fighters, more justice could of been done to display how good of a fighter he was prior to his death. I still think a dedicated tv/stream show would have been a great setup for the 2021 reboot, something like MK: Rebirth, but with a dedicated budget and opportunity to develop at least 1 key character. The MK 2021 movie could of easily been split into 2 movies, one to focus on the Lin Kuei vs Shirai Ryu to show how they developed their skills, where major lore characters like Shang Sung and Raiden could have had peripheral roles influencing their decisions trying to recruit them for an upcoming tournament. The second movie could of focused on entirely the special force unit, Jax and Sonya to introduce the concept of tournament fighting with flash backs to the past and recruitment scenes where Shang Sung fails to kill off earth realm and is summoned by Shao Kahn. This could of easily led to a third and final movie for an epic show down of the major characters. The only reason I remain somewhat disappointed is that I'm surprised that with a budget of $95 million, the director could not squeeze out a little more dialogue. We must admit, we have seen movies with far less money on Netflix with creative camera work and clever directing to accentuate the best of their dialogue/scenes/costumes. The movie felt very rushed and at times it appeared that the director was forced to cut dialogue, sacrifice character development and even fast forward scenes to get characters in different locations to move the plot. In the future, the directors should storngly consider a 3 hour length movie for more action, more dialogue, more lore and a chance for viewers to appreciate the costumes and settings. I am still unsure whether 'Cole' is a necessary character, I thought he would be the catalyst or would provide a unique POV for the viewers, but he seemed to distant and not relatable in any manner. MCU phase II and the numerous spin off tv shows set a new precedent, MCU ssucceeded so much so that a lot of their competitors are being compared to their standard. To even begin a project as close as to MCU's style of phase 1 to 4, MK would need 100's of millions per movie. I hope there are more sequels and prequels, this was a good first step.
@@ttdttd4211 Well if you think about it, she already been through so much pain so it must have auto unlocked for her when she killed Kano. Just a thought
@@martinrafael466 I never really liked sub zero over scorpion, but this movie really surprised me, I thought sub zero was the hero all this time, when in this version, he's the villain and Scorpion was just trying to get revenge for his innocently murdered family
People are just bitching and complaining about anything nowadays. Addition of Cole Young has it's role and was done better than i expected. Make him a descendant of Hanzo was a plus. The only downside was too short screen time for Scorpion. Hopefully in the sequel we will have more action from him. People should understand that this is no Oscar masterpiece, no drama, thriller, emotions type of movie. It's a screen adaptation of a fighting game, which was executed way better than expected. This movie is good and enjoyable, even if you're a MK fan or not.
Yeah. They even showed the greatest thing of MK, The Brutalities. This movie may have some plots or smth but making a game to a Movie for 2 hours, this definitely was well directed with some great CGIs
I like this movie it doesn't go straight into mortal Kombat it builds tension it builds up its characters it doesn't go straight into the fighting. And in my opinion that's good that's good it doesn't go into mortal Kombat immediately we get to know these characters. We get to know who these people are and why we should root for them to win and why Earth is important. To some of these people and I like the fact that they have abilities called arcana and they have to work for it to get their abilities. It's not automatically given to them they have to work for it. And we actually get to know them when they actually work for what they get. So I'm not really disappointed that we didn't get the mortal Kombat tournament we got a prelude information about the tournament. So when the tournament finally gets here we'll know the danger and the threat that we're facing.
Yes this ddfinately has a "prologue" kind of feel in my opinion (kano doesnt have a metal face but now needs one for ex) yet changing things like scorpion being tue main bady to sort of the hero of the story. Makes you interested asF whats next. Guess scorion will be a good guy now? Cuz he wont go against Cole oit of honor/respect for the one who freed him? 🤔 defo why sub zero is also listed as noob id say. Hell be the big baddy with ermac and shao kahn soon. Buuut who will play Johny Cage? 🧐
@@alexdrysdale2678 there's only one person who can play Johnny Cage Tom Cruise the only person who has the personality with their head up their own ass is Tom Cruise
@@InconsistentCod a chest plate and night sticks???? Really??? Demons, ninjas from hell, assassins.....and you think......a chest plate and night sticks.....are cool?? 😯😮😮😮
It wasn't bad, nice effects, there was some over-acting, that Liu wasn't the male lead was weird, but with that dude, as Liu is understandable. The only thing that this Liu has is the bod, sick body, dry muscles, but he was like an egg with no salt and talked like a fortune cookie. Sonya awesome fighter, Hanzo there're no words. Tan did a good job, he's a better actor than it showed here so I have high hopes for the 2nd
nah nah nah nah nah.. thats the first thing i wish that they dont do that. And who the fuck is cole ye no idea either... but him reincarnated as scorpion? that'll fuck up scorpions character if u ask me..
Techno Syndrome doesn't really fit the tone of the opening scene's darker tone so I'm okay with them not including it there, but I can understand why fans would want to hear it at the beginning considering the original two films (yes even the rancid dog shit known as Annihilation) starts with it.
They did Goro dirty by having that pointless ass character kill him. But honestly, I really enjoyed this movie. It was a lot of dumb fun and Kano genuinely made me laugh as well. I wasn't expecting that
Joe taslim aka Sub zero signed 4 contract for upcoming mortal kombat movie. spoilers. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Noob Saibot is sub zero coming back to live 👍
yeah, but I felt played at the end. They should've put a line for Shang Tsung about him actually taking part in the actual tournament before Raiden transported him
I think it was a smart decision, too, far too many promising franchises get ruined by a shitty sequel that tries to add a bunch of weird shit, but following this up with an actual mortal kombat should be pretty straightforward. Plus they have plenty of existing characters to introduce that already have backstories written for them.
I'm with you there too, man! The fact that they decided to start out from the very beginning, giving people like Scorpion an actual backstory, only made it better from here on out!
Just finished watching this movie and told my 14 yr old that i wanted to play the game like I did when I was a teenager his response " is mortal combat that old?" I'm 💀
Loved Kano's character, and Sheng song looks really good like really creepy guy and Mileena is really good I like everyone's character I think everyone did extremely well but I was expecting a little bit more from kabal, the story was ok but wasn't as deep and detailed as I would have liked it to be but was just fine I guess, love the graphics excellent job to the special effects team👍👍 hats off.
I don’t know, I’m an old dog I’m still partial to the original movie. But not the sequel. This movie’s plot felt skinny and rushed. But I’m just one guy, what do I know? Lol
Why did they have to kill all the main villains? I know they’ll probably be resurrected inexplicably, but this is a prequel. They should have taken their time with it. It’s an entertaining movie, but unfortunately it’s hard for me to overlook the liberties they took with the lore and characters.
@@BuddaGheeski But what about the other characters that died? It kinda lessens the impact of a character death when you know they’ll just “come back in the next one”
Man I loved all the nods to the game. Talk about nostalgia. I didn’t even pick up on the leg sweep that was blatantly obvious “Is that the only move you know?”
My problem with this movie is that, it doesn't even follow the lore. Quan-Chi is supposed to be the one who kills Hanzo's clan while posing as Bi-Han. Jax is supposed to get his arms torn off by Ermac. If they're going to be going by the lore in the next movie, it's not going to make sense b/c everything already happened out of order.
I do wonder if reptile will ever make a return sense Shang Tsung said death was only a portal. So maybe this brings back the concept of no one stays dead in mortal kombat? Well I guess we will find out. Still it was a good film.
I would prefer having different characters in the sequel instead of the same ones again, but that could mean there’s a possibility he could return in ninja form
Another tidbit about this movie is the whole entire scene that was filmed at Sonja's house was filmed in my city and I had no idea I noticed the area looked familiar until I heard Jax say Gary Indiana
You just explained the movie you didn’t explain the ending but...”not a spoiler” outworld ends up wining and they invade earth also kitana and baraka are coming out in pt2 😁
Lolol they didn't want Johnny cage's character in this first movie cause they wanted a more serious theme to the movies I saw in another video.. ( watches movie) literally see kano playing Johnny cages arrogant, conceited slapstick corny comedic self😅🙄 I guess there can only be one caucasian conceited person in the film. They should have just made this a series still enjoyed myself happy they brought it back in a movie form.
Sub Zero and Scorpion were done so well that it was disappointing that the rest of the actors couldn’t hold their own. The movie was very rushed and actually would have been better as a streaming show. Teasing the tournament instead of just having it in this movie was a let down.
Just watched the movie today. Kano made the movie 10x better. Wasn’t expecting something like that, I hoped for more fights and more characters. But, this will do!
Remember folks, the producer left Cage out bc he wasn’t comfortable with having an American, white male in his film. Then backtracked all that info to you he nod for the sequel.
I kinda wished they went with the tournament route instead of this whole side thing outside of the tournament while talking about the tournament all movie. It kinda took away from the plot of this movie in an effort to build up a plot for sequels and makes this movie not stand alone as well. Alita Battle Angel did the same thing where they spend the whole movie talking about the floating city above and that’s where the big bad guy lives and where Alita spends the whole movie trying to get to but never gets there because that was meant for the sequel that never came. It always bugs me when movies spend so much time and effort trying to set things up for sequels rather than try to work as a good movie itself. Like I think about the first Avengers movie, there was sooo much in store for the Avengers sequels with the infinity stones and Thanos being the big bad guy they were building up to, but they didn’t make the first avengers movie about any of that. They don’t mention the infinity stones once and Thanos is only shown for like a second in the post credits scene. The movies conflict felt big enough that they didn’t need to spend the whole movie building up to the sequels because they made a satisfying standalone movie and focused on that instead of constantly reminding the audience “this isn’t the main big conflict, this is just some side stuff to set up a main big conflict for a future movie” the conflict just didn’t feel big enough when we know the tournament is when the real conflict begins, but now they’ve changed the stakes by adding this prophecy that guarantees earthrealm will win the tournament which kinda makes the movie feel like the stakes are lower cause... they told us it’s prophecy that they’ll win I kinda wish they didn’t take that route either so it still felt even between the two realms and still felt like there were stakes. If they tell us right from the start Earthrealm is gonna win the tournament, even if that’s the assumed end, a good movie maker would still create stakes and real conflict and it would still feel like the bad guys have a chance at winning even if they don’t in the end. But they didn’t do that they basically told us there’s no stakes cause earthrealm is gonna win cause that’s what they established at the very beginning
I feel like this would be really good as a series instead bc the editing and graphics was good but I can’t wait for the next one and it seemed alittle stretched long so a series would be better
For what I think, their gonna make a part 2. It's only because there was a part that shown Katana's fan. It also shown some other people weapons or so, well I never spotted it but thats what I think. Plus, the next thing is Johnny Cage. Its like Cole is the player playing the game and doing the story!
I'm confused as to why subzero didnt age , is it that he won the 9th Mk tournament, then if that's the case that means goro wasn't the MK champion. I think everyone who died will be resurrected. Except kung Lao because his soul was taken if his body doesn't have a soul then the body may start to rot. That's maybe why the Mk tournament supposed to take place very close to this movie. Remember someone said that the heroes wouldn't see another full moon before the MK tournament, so I think we're in for the official MK tournament soon
I'll leave that for you pal ,.looks like you have time for games . clearly he isn't our average human being DUHHH. There's was also a myth floating around that Bihan and Qai Liang are from another realm maybe Edenia and their guardian sort refuge in Earthrelm. Maybe you should watch some theories and broaden your mind .
This movie was fucking amazing !!! But 2 things pissed me off (SPOILERS) down below read at your own risk. ⤵️ What pissed me off was Radiant not stopping Shang Sung from killing Kung Lao which is my favorite character as well !!!!
Just watched Futureboy Kamikaze channel, he mentioned a moment a lot of people probably missed: At the end, after Sub Zero got burned, he's lying on the ground with his eyes closed. When Shang Tsung takes his body, his eyes are open! Either Noob in the making already, or Bi-Han wasn't dead yet.
@Oldskool Skengman I know, but they are taking liberties from the lore so who knows... I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more of Sub-Zero before we (hopefully) get Noob.
@@Mrs.SaturnX im leaning in the direction of noob because he is already in black from being burned, also another tidbit just my opinion but I think kano may not be dead, and upon his return he will get the silver plate in his head from having his eye gouged out. Its just an opinion but we will see
@@kevinnelson7070 I think it's gonna be Noob, too. Hoping for maybe a Sub-Zero spin-off though, I'm not ready to let him go yet. 🤣 Kano did die, otherwise Sonya wouldn't have gotten his mark, but hopefully Shang Tsung will bring him back with the metal plate. He'd wanna cover up his messed-up face anyway... 🤣
@@Mrs.SaturnX 😄 yeah Shang Tsung did say death was only a portal, and we may not be done with sub zero if they follow the original movies sub zero had a brother, and they could always introduce the infamous lady frost 💪👍
I feel like this movie could have been longer because for me it felt like it went really quick so I feel like they could of made it like as long as the remake of justice league
Dude!!!! I noticed it on my second watch. I looked up the roster. Trust me when I say the actor that plays her Sisi Stringer is super curvy and fine!!!!
So am I right by saying this movie kind of over ruled the whole lore of; Sub Zero initially killing Scorpion, then Quan Chi really being the one to wipe out Hanzo and the Shirai Ryu, then bringing him back as Scorpion? I don't see how they can bring Quan Chi in and follow that, if we saw Bi-Han do it all. Cuz like, Sub Zero really knew what he did, I don't think that was Quan Chi posing as him the whole movie lol
Basically at least how I see Bihan killed hanzo and his family, and Shang stung kept him alive cause it’s a 400 year difference so I think he was kept alive by shangstung then scorpion rose from the blood of cole(his desendent) which awakens and free scorpion
Fans calling this good and way better than annihilation is confused right now because they had high expectations and they can't accept that it's not that good of a movie yet. If you hate annihilation you will hate this. The only reason I'm not hating this movie right now is because of hiroyuki sanada because the guy is a genuinely good actor and plays a legit samurai.
Y is it so hard for u people to understand that not everyone has the same opinions as u lol. It's a good movie. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean me and others wouldn't. And annihilation is crap. And I much prefer this so Ur just talking nonsense
He's the "normal guy in a fantastical world" so he's basically us, learning the lore of MK for the casuals And possibly, Kano returning without his arcana and using a laser eye can be pretty good
@@kilwolski why though? I did/do not care much for him or his storyline. Scorpio can hold his own without lineage. Liu Kang was demoted to a secondary character when he's supposed to be the Goku of the saga. I mean... MK at this point is fan service boosting it to major success, so why mess with the basic story we all know? Or even better why hint at (what seems to be a greater story of) Scorpio and SZ's origin story to hide it later? but please do let me know why cole yes
I think it was actually a good choice. Just because Liu Kang is the eventual true hero of the story doesn't mean we have to see it from his POV. Cole is more relatable by far. They were going to have to make someone be the relatable POV character so I'm glad it's the new guy rather than ruining one of the beloved originals by trying to make THEM more relatable. They could easily make Liu Kang more of a focus in the sequel now that his character's been established, and I don't think anyone's going to miss Cole if that happens. He's a convenient throwaway character. I don't love him, but I don't really hate him either. He didn't steal too much screen time from the other fighters either so I think it worked out.
Other than Cole Young's character (and the guy who played him being a weak actor, imo) being corny as all hell, I enjoyed the movie. The story was, ehh, but the fighting was awesome. Even the finishers. Anyway, I'll definitely be willing to watch a sequel.
As long as Cole isn't the center of attention, it would be something if he finally became Takeda Takahashi if the fan theories are actually true. But the sequels are worth the shot with future characters being hinted at
Ok so why didn’t Hanzo lose his marking when he was killed? And what happens to Hanzo’s fake daughter since she would have the marking next right? So many holes in that storyline
