Hailed as one of the worst video game movie adaptations of all time. It's high time I give my thoughts on MORTAL KOMBAT ANNIHILATION! #MortalKombat #MortalKombatAnnihilation
Fun fact: Cages original actor lindon ashby was offered to come back to the second movie, but he rejected coming back after he read the script to this movie.
"Too bad. YOU. Will die." To me that is one of the most cringiest lines in the movie. And read so badly. Like he said, porn level acting without the fun parts.
I and my brother made this our inside joke for a while, so when we were younger and lightsaber fighting, before killing him I would recite that most famous line XD
I wouldn’t know I’m not paid movie critic to know how bad it is I like movie first one is better with fights I like second one to see more characters in sequel that was it
It was far better than the sequel… idk the acting in both are horrible, the only good things from the first are sonya blade, maybe some elements of Johnny, but the acting of everyone else, the goro fight, all horrible so it’s not like it’s very good either.
I remember being 10 and forcing my dad to go watch this with me in theaters. That was the first time in my life I felt intense shame and embarrassment for my actions.
This top 5 in comments that made me burst out in laughter 😂😂😂😂 I too have felt shame for paying money to see this ..... worst Movie I have ever seen in Theaters
The dragon tattoo is still a better story then "A Meme-Obsessed super teen whose brain became connected to the internet after becoming exposed to his grandfather’s experimental internet gas.”
@@redharrison894 No the first one while not great , it did have people who out actual effort into it and knew the source material, it had some basic story of the game and some elements from it , the problem was that it was PG-13 but that is also understandable. Super Mario bros movie came out before it but everyone hated it though it made money studio believed that the R rating would hurt the box office earings .
Nah it's just a fun movie. People just take shit too seriously. They watch boring shit like Law and Order cause they don't know what personality is about
I thought I was about to agree with you there cause I thought you were gonna say the best part of the movie was at the end when the credits came on and it was finished then I would have agreed with you lol 😅🤣😂😜🤪
Nah the first one is legit, not just a guilty pleasure. Liu's arc and the story/lore is better executed than many non-action movies. The sets were incredible, the acting generally good, it had it all. Non-fans and movie buffs like it. Its still the best game to film adaptation ever made above Pikachu/Sonic, but at least we're now finally turning a corner.
@@Waaagh40KRed what is the big deal with Christopher Lambert? I seriously couldn’t stand him as Raiden. Sorry...that is just not Raiden or Raiden’s voice to me whatsoever. For me that was one of the worst examples of miscasting ever in cinematic history. Now that being said, I also agree Shao Kahn was probably even worse. But my point is I never got and never will get why people think Christopher Lambert was so great as Raiden.
I have to admit that is one of the few lines I liked. And as for match-ups Meleena always was Out-World, but very wild card. If Sonya was Kitana's Ally I think she would relish fighting her. If only to deliver a dead body to her "twin."
Watching this hot mess with my late dad, is genuinely one of my fondest movie memories ever. It was the first time i realised a film about things i liked could be so bad (at an age i would have told you i liked batman and robin) and the first time i realised you could enjoy such shit. We had eachother in hysterics tearing it apart, and ive loved watching shlockfests ever since.
@@bjornblackman2337 it big time made a difference to me. Mortal Kombat was the second movie I ever watched in the theater when I was a kid. When this shit came out (remember I was a kid) the different faces THEN ruined it for me. If Robin Sho wasn't Liu Kang in this movie I wouldn't have watched it.
No shame there, I rented this as a kid from blockbuster all the time on vhs because I just liked seeing the fighters from the game show up. We all wise up eventually.
I remember as a kid dragging my mom to the cinema to watch this movie. I felt so bad for making her sit through such a stunningly bad movie 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Actually the movie should of brought yall closer together....because the ride home should of been filled with Child like laughter ....Me and 2 of my Friends was with our Mom's who were also friends went to see this and we about died laughing on the way home...we was explaining to our parents how the movie should of been and instantly our Moms was invested in us being film makers lol..... a memorable car ride home...
I, on the other hand, hyped-up MK1 to my cousins, and told them MK2 is definitely a must-see. They have never watched MK or played any of the games. Well, it didn't end well, from the intro I knew that I was screwed. Teasing ensued.
*Jeremy:* guys Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is one of the WORST movies out there I mean it's what STARTED my channel. *Mortal Kombat Annihilation:* allow me to introduce myself Moral of the story is whatever movie you think is THE WORST movie of all time....there's always something worse.
One of the disappointing moments in my life was when i bought Annihilation on DVD when i didn't even know a sequel existed, and i was a kid. The cover looked so good i got clickbaited. I didn't even know Cage was recasted till now, just throwing that out there 😂. I don't know what i did with the copy, i'm not sure if i destroyed it or not but i'm glad i don't see it anymore.
Can we get the guy who directed the John Wick trilogy to make a Mortal Kombat movie Edit: I guess a Mortal Kombat reboot is in the works? I didn’t know that
The current reboot is by a guy getting a lot of praise and was very picky with casting as in every character has a martial arts background, John wick is cool but a bit overrated at times and doesn't mean would work for every other movie with fighting. MK does a lot more than just fighting and shooting guns lol. @Justin Coleman, you do realize MK is a far bigger franchise than John Wick right? lol
I loved it as a little kid just seeing all my favorite characters brought to life, with iconic moves like the ice clone also brought to life, I have nostalgia for it as a guilty pleasure movie. For me the fights are the exciting porn moments in between the shitty acting. As a kid I actually thought it was better than the first because of the increased amount of characters/fights, it wasnt till I got older did I appreciate how much of a quality film/story the first was. And there was no cosplay or movies with nice superhero costumes back then, all we had was power rangers and this was beating it.
I remember going to a video store and the clerk said he loved MK Annihilation and had never seen the original Mortal Kombat. He was like "Is it better than Annihilation?" I said "Hell yeah!" I admit I got both on DVD. The 1st was awesome, the 2nd just a fun train wreck.
Not only did we lose Ashby as Cage but no one is talking about how we lost Lambert as Raiden!? Gotta wonder how it went so wrong, MK1 ended up influencing the game franchise itself, MK2 is never to be spoke of.
I saw MK:A when it came out in cinema. In that year /1997/ I was 16yo and for movie to be watched it had to have minimum of 7 people, nowdays they will show even to one person. I was the 7th visitor so that movie was possible to view it and I loved it, back in that day, and I still loved it today. its like love/hate thing, when everyone nowdays hate it because CGI and acting, but for me it was awesome. Anyway, nice review, as always your video makes me laugh so hard and at 8:22 I literally fell of chair. Good job Jeremy, love what you do. You are simply astonishing. Looking forward for your next movie review from the 90s.
The most memorable scene for me is the one when Shao Kahn kills Rain. "It is true... that this will never happen again." lol The actor they got to play Shao Kahn wasn't a bad choice. Too bad he was cast to play Kahn in a terrible movie. (The one playing Raiden deserved to be in a better movie, too. And as a different character. (I wonder why Lambert didn't return. Probably because of the script. lol) Oh what could have been if they didn't botch Annihilation. We could probably still be getting MK movies today in the same continuity.) I tend to enjoy most of the characters he plays. The sequel's story definitely felt like it was written solely just to string action scenes together. You'd be better off just watching a highlight reel of all of the action scenes on RU-vid. (Minus that shitty animality scene.) That said, this is one of those guilty pleasures for me. (Along with Super Mario Bros The Movie & Street Fighter. Least Street Fighter knew what it was & didn't take itself too seriously, though. (Oh & Raul Julia as M. Bison is one of his best roles... and one of his last. *sad face*)
This is my favorite 'so bad it's good' movie! I love it so much, it's such a beautiful trainwreck of a disasterpiece of a film. I've probably watched more than "The Room" or "Troll 2" combined. This is my favorite bad movie, hands down. You could say... IT -- IS -- GLORIOUS!!!
When they didn't recast Linden Ashby as Johnny, I was out of it! He was my favourite thing about the first movie. Then years later it was him and Bridgette Wilson as Sonya. They were great!
I’m so old I remember seeing the announcement trailer to the first Mortal Kombat movie. It was pretty much like the MK 2 game intro with the thunder and lightening around the dragon logo and the Nothing. Nothing in the world can prepare you for this. And then it says Mortal Kombat as they dragon logo’s eye turns red in the background. It was awesome
I’d actually forgotten that I’d seen this movie. But after watching the clips and having my memory jogged I realized it was because it was REEAAALLLYY bad.
Hey Jeremy can you start a new reviews series called "Revisited". Revisit movies like Goodfellas, Lord of The Rings, Star Wars (original trilogy), the Dark Knight Trilogy etc. I think this is the perfect time to do so because of the whole coronavirus quarantine situation. Like so Jeremy sees this.
All joking aside, I did watch this movie stoned, stopped halfway and just started playing the video games. In no shape or possibility is this movie even close to saving. I wouldn't even make this a drinking game type movie
I like this Jeremy. These last few vids have been so much fun. Never seen or heard of this, but my God, this vid was hilarious. Also, I don't think I've seen you laugh this hard before! Amazing.
I’d love to see Jeremy review some of the classics now that he has the extra time. Any Scorsese mob movie or older tarentino or Kubrick. Would love to see him review clockwork orange.
ThEEPOPO9 This is one of those films that you can tell was special in the opening title that showed that Jeremy had to come back and to face his personal demons. The time truly had come in this moment. 😂
I keep saying we should play the theme tune in our supermarket when we open the doors 😂😂 keep reviewing Jeremy I love your reviews be them past or current movies 💗
Its funny my first video I ever watched of yours was the first mortal kombat movie and that was 7 years ago. Your still awesome and keep up with the great work.
Yeah....I was definitely in denial when the movie was over. It shouldn’t have been that bad . The Michael Jai White short films for MK was 🔥 and needs to happen again
Jeremy thank you so much for reviewing this. I have been waiting for this review for a long time, and it was totally worth the wait!! MK:A is horrendous and the only aspects of the movie that I really liked are the scenes between Lui Kang and Nightwolf!!
Oh I remember when Johnny died, just like that, neck snapped I screamed:” *DUDE?!?* *What the hell?!* I know this is Mortal Kombat but at least try to keep him a bit longer in the movie!"🤬
