chris nickel People buy the game because they want to play it from the beginning to be able to compete.There's people who buy these games for more than 6 hours of stories and a few rounds of arcade.

Well yeah, story modes in fighting games are pretty arbitrary so it's not like anyone goes into it expecting Shakespearian levels of writing. They could surely do better from a narrative perspective but I think the story mode exists more to "humanise" the characters than for any actual storytelling purpose, and for that reason I hope they never get removed all together. Besides that, it does lead to some funny situations as Yahtzee mentioned. My favourite was in Dead Or Alive 2 where upon completing story mode as a character who has amnesia he gets his memory back and immediately celebrates, leaping into the wind overjoyed and proudly exclaiming to be a free soul and somehow completely forgetting the fact that less than 5 minutes ago he beat his sister to death because he didn't recognise her. It kind of completely invalidates his own story arc and I was amazed they actually wrote it like this and didn't find it a bit funny at the time.

TheGameMerchant Dude, all MK has ever been is a button basher. The only ones who havent been button bashers is like street fighter, 2 or 3 characters in Skullgirls, and KoF. Though I define button basher as in you can just press the xxx and the yyy and you've done a combo.

Brady's RU-vid of things 2 or 3 characters in Skullgirls? No, the entirety of the roster of Skullgirls is very in-depth and is built for hardcore 2d fighters. Skullgirls is practically BUILT for tournaments, there is not a single character that is a "button basher", unless by your definition two jabs counts as a combo. There are few "button basher" fighting games out there and all the ones that are "button bashers" are awful games.

fartzinwind in MMS (Modern Multiplayer Shooter) games, well, just walking is all that is left, your right there...except you cant even walk in the wrong direction anymore due to the one way corridor levels, invisible walls, the voice in yer head telling you were to go at all times, and the big "follow me" above the head of an immortal, AI Controlled NPC who is always just so much more badass than you are. Proper FPS (ie Wolfenstein: The Old Blood..best damn Add on Pack i have played since Spear Of Destiny...yeah! that long ago!...) still has some Teeth, but, proper FPS games are pretty rare these days!

InfiniteIdeas You may be right with Kung Lao, but he's got 3 variants now and I just don't know him as well as you might (I main Erron Black). Personally, I found MK9 to feel much more rigid and clunky during fights. MKX feels much more fluid and allows for smooth transitions to combos :p. I'd play you on X1, but you'll probably destroy me right now.

Its a sequel and a reboot as it does follow up on Armageddon but it also resets everything so they can be told a different way, except not really. Oh no, Sub-Zero is a robot now!? Nope, just for one game then Quan-Chi throws him a bone and turns him human again, but we can't have that for Jax who has robotic arms? Does he hate technology or not?
